Blu-ray authoring with Nero?
tomkat posted 2008 Oct 04 16:13
Ive hooked up my new blu-ray drive to this PC for the time being see if it works. Can anyone recommend some good software for converting the .mkv/h264 blu-ray rips I have onto bd-re?

On this PC IM using Nero and so far its taken 20mins just to analyze the file :-)

Then Nero reports the quality is "avergae" for a 25GB file (mind you it reports the movie is 3hrs 30mins long when it isnt)

reports it'll take around 15hrs to convert the movie. This is on an athlon 64 dualcore 4000 2.1ghz, 2gb ram, so very low PC, hoping my qx6800 quad core with 8GB ram will be significantly faster!

Given the bad job that everyone says that Nero does when encoding to DVD, are you really sure that letting Nero encode to BluRay is a good idea?

It may not even be necessary. There are many guides and free programs available and your MKV might actuallyl be OK as is without any re-encoding. Wouldn't that be better? tsmuxer is one program you're going to want to get. There might be some guides here on converting MKV to BluRay and they don't require re-encoding. http://www.doom9.net may also have some hints in the forums on doing this. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I only used Nero as it was available at the time. Ive since looked into tsmuxer, looks fine but one question - the folder it creates (asys playable on ps3's) is this folder also playable for standard blu-ray players? I.e is the folder created the default folder for blu-ray files? Thank you
