| I have an Optoma Ep 719 DLP projector with a max resolution of 1080i. I have it fixed to 16x9, and it looks very nice. Here is my issue that I need advice on. I just got a new Blu-Ray player, and would like to find my best set-up option. I hooked up the blu-ray player via hdmi to the projector. Problem is that this blue-ray player only allows 1080p when hooked up via HDMI. Here is the crazy part, when turned on, my source is found at 1920x1080! (1080p). I don't even know how that is possible. The thing is that the video looks excellent when playing, but all the menus on the player "vibrate" and "bounce". I literally get sick. I would bring it down to 1080i, but I can't! would I be better off connecting it via component video and then setting that to 1080i? I don't understand how a video looks so clear, but menus bounce? Also, when I stream with netflix HD, the bottom 2-3 pixel lines "bounce" and have funny color hues.
does anyone have any thoughts? this whole scenario baffles me. |

| What BD player do you have?
AFAIK all BD players allow you to adjust output, some players require you to turn off Auto to lower resolution. As for the picture shaking it sounds like your projector is the problem, see if there's a firmware update. You might want to visit the forums at www.avsforum.com. |

| The Optoma Ep 719 has native 1024x768 resolution. 1080i or 720p will get horizontal downscaled in the projector. 720p needs a vertical upscale unless they heavily overscan.
The BluRay player should have HDMI options for 1080i/29.97(with telecine), 720p/59.94 (with repeated frames) or maybe 1080p/23.976. The projector most likely is not designed to use the latter. Analog component at 1080i or 720p probably best matches the designers intent. Try 1080i and 720p in both HDMI and analog component and use the setting that works best for stability. |
