| Hi i just bought a Apple TV, but i cant figure out how to convert my downloaded AVIs to a file format that is supported by iTunes. I tried to use FFMpegX, but when i select a input file (AVI) after pushing the convert button it says it is done, butno converting has been done.
Can anyone help me with som tips how to get my avi-movies into the format supported by itunes (which format is that?) |

| Give Handbrake a try. You may need to install Perian in order for Handbrake to read the avi correctly. |

| HandBrake converts video from DVD (MPEG-2) to MPEG-4, so it won't be of much use for AVI source files.
What are the video codec and audio codec of your AVI? When in doubt, try MediaInfo Mac. As for target format, you should aim for H.264 video with AAC-LC audio in .mp4 format. |

| ok, thanx. I found Isquit, which seems to work fine. However i also wonder if anyone knows how to get subtitles into itunes (.srt - files) |

| Apparently you can include them in the .mp4 container, although I don't know which software does this, or if the iPod supports their use. Otherwise you may have to make them permanent (i.e. encode them into the image) |

| Ok, do you know how to encode it into the image? |

| If you want to hardsub movies for the AppleTV, the best thing I've seen is Submerge ($9). The same company makes Road Movie ($20) which adds batch encoding and both take advantage of Turbo H.264.
They cost money, but if you do a lot of subtitle encoding, this will work for you. |

| I'm re-hashing a post from a few weeks ago as to steps I would take:
A movie to Ipod freindly video with subtitles Substitute VLC for DVD Player Play the .avi file in this app, and have iShowU "hijack"it. the remaining steps are the sameto mp4. |
