| I have an AVI file w/ resolution (724x432). It won't play on my DVD saying that resolution is not supported. I have a 720p Plasma TV. It won't play because my TV is it because it is only 720p and not 1080p? Or the max for any file is 720?
Thanks. | ||

Very few DVD players will accept divx or xvid at greater than 720x576 resolution. "AVI" is non-descriptive. It is a wrapper like MKV. The codec inside is what counts. Most DVD players only accept MPeg2 in standard VOBs. Some accept divx/xvid in an avi wrapper. A few accept wmv. None that I know of accept Quicktime (any codec). All standard DVD players limit import to 720x480 or 720x576 maximum. Some will upscale to 720p, 1080i or 1080p on output. | ||

720p = height 720pixels, width 1280px 1080p = height 1080px, width 1440 or 1920 (or others width) common DVD NTSC = height 480, width 720 common DVD PAL = height 576, width 720 The important part of any standards is the height and your file is far away from 720p ;) Happy Christmas |
