AVCHD and Pioneer BDP-121

| I've tried converting a Mkv movie in AVCDHD with TS-Muxer and burned it on a DVD-9......
worked fine on the PS3 (was shown as a AVCHD) even if the video was in the the top of the screen with black bar at the bottom (Think it's because of the resolution). But then i've tried it on a stand alone Pioneer blu-ray player that support AVCHD (the BDP-121) and then an error message that says that the disk could not be read?? Any Idea

| First thing I'd try is to try a different blank disc and copy it again. Or try -r or +r instead. The pioneer may be more picky about recordable dvdr than the ps3.
Also see if there is a firmware update for the pioneer. It may have improved avchd functionality with a system update. HOWEVER READ YOUR MANUAL BEFORE DOING ANY FIRMWARE UPDATE! Don't brick your pioneer by doing something wrong. Of course that is assuming the pioneer can be upgraded.

I would suspect non-compliant resolution. Maybe the *.mkv needs to be run through uncropmkv first?

| Some Blu-ray players are finicky about DVD +R media & you can purchase dual layer DVD -R DL media from newegg for the same cost as +R DL. I use these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817505008 for my friends Samsung BD-P3600 which only accepts DVD-R & they work great. However an odd scenario must be done to play AVCHD’s with the Samsung BD-P3600. (This came about by accident after playing a Blu-Ray disc.) You have to put a Blu-Ray disc in first play it for a few seconds, then all AVCHD’s discs will play on DVD-R 5/9 until the unit is turned off. Once the unit is turned off a Blu-Ray disc must be played for a second or two again before playing an AVCHD. You may want to try this with your Pio & your manual does state DVD +R compatibility http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/ephox/StaticFiles/Manuals/Home/B ... ns0317.pdf however I’d definitely try DVD-R discs.
I have not made AVCHD using TS-Muxer I mostly use AVCHDCoder http://www.videohelp.com/tools/AVCHDCoder & occasionally multiAVCHD http://www.videohelp.com/tools/multiAVCHD

I was playing around with this all weekend. It seems your video wasn't compliant to the resolutions. Try to use uncropMKV and resize it to the AVCHD compliant size. I made a AVCHD with multiAVCHD and first few MKVs i made reported back as non-compliant. PS3 will play the disc no doubt but that could be the reason for the disc not playing on other Blu Ray players. Its what I have read but can't confirm because I don't have a BD Player, I made my PS3 my BD Player. Hope this helps
