AutoX264 (Multi Encoder GUI for H.264) v. 0.18 (windows/linux)

buzzqw posted 2008 Nov 22 11:50
Here my new creation.. AutoX264

AutoX264 is a cross platform application (avaiable for windows and linux) that can use several h.264 encoders to deliver outstanding encoding on mp4, mkv or m2ts

On its basic way AutoX264 use mencoder , mplayer, xterm and MP4Box.

AutoX264 can decode, using mencoder, ffmpeg, DGAVCIndex, DGIndex, FFmpegSource , near all files, from m2ts to avi, to mkv

AutoX264 also support MeGui X264 profiles

WARINING FOR UBUNTU USER: make sure you select options avaiable in your mencoder build.
b_adapt=2 isn't actually avaiable in ubuntu 's mencoder build (for example...)

here the link to AutoX264 0.18 version

Linux : http://www.64k.it/andres/data/autox264/autox264.tar.gz (not update, is 0.17)
Windows : http://www.64k.it/andres/data/autox264/AutoX264_v0.18.171.1640.rar
windows update : http://www.64k.it/andres/data/autox264/autox264.exe

AutoX264 Manual: http://www.64k.it/andres/data/autox264/manual/AutoX264%20Guide%20 ... 0.15).html

For Windows User: use the full pack and update with the executable

For Linux User: make sure you have installed mencoder/mplayer/mp4box.
You should already have installed xterm and gtk2 libs
Optionally you can install mkvtoolnix (for mkv muxing), and wine (and avisynth).. for using the windows full package (already tested and working)
For using MeGui profiles, just create a "profiles" folder and put here the xml files

here some image

the application is tested on Ubuntu 8.04, Fedora 10 64bit, Debian Lenny 32bit, Windows XP SP3

What's the difference between this and AutoMKV if encoding in X264? Would one give out better quality than the other?

deadrats posted 2008 Dec 06 00:14
just a suggestion, but maybe you could bundle the mencoder/mplayer with your front-end, only because the mplayer website sucks balls and trying to find the appropriate downloads is a ball breaking experience (i had to go through mulder's website to find a windows build of mplayer, just to much of a pain in the ass.

as for the gui, the windows version looks nothing like the screenshots you posted (i'm guessing those screenshots are from within gnome, as they have a very gnome centric theme to them).

also, i'm curious, how does mencoder fit into the equation? x264 is both a codec and an encoder, at least that is what i have been led to believe, which means that mencoder doesn't actually do the h264 encoding, it just acts like a front end to x264, which means you made a front end to a front end for X264, is that just about the gist of it?

while i'm at it i just tried it with a 1920x800 mkv that uses the x264 codec and ac3 audio and i got an error message saying that it was unable to detect the aspect ratio, through up another quick error and then it crashed and was closed down by windows.

furthermore, it doesn't seem to store the program paths, when i relaunched it, it said that some program paths were not set (even though i set them the first time i tried to use it) and when i checked, the path section was empty.

sorry, don't trying to break balls here, just giving you some feedback.

oh, and i'm using XP64 with SP2.

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 06 02:09
@VistaXP

automkv rely on avisynth for decoding the stream and then pass to x264 for encoding.
Also in automkv you can use a powerfull arsenal of filters
so, strictly speaking automkv can give better quality (if used correctly)

autox264 use mencoder both for decoding and encoding (with x264)

@deadrats
don't use mencoder and mplayer builds from official site
BUT from sherpya http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php , are much more updated!
remember that you need mencoder, mplayer, and mp4box

mencoder isn't a front end, but a fully fuctional encoding application, that within is codec has x264 (the same code as x264.exe)
I have built a GUI for mencoder, with special interest only for the x264 section of mencoder

about your error is probably due to old mplayer.
also.. when mplayer isn't able to compute aspect ratio, you must write it in gui, so autox264 can resize correctly

autox264 don't store path. Simply put autox264 in a folder with mencoder.exe, mplayer.exe, mp4box.exe

This looks promising for me. I have many many small files to convert. Does it have a 'batch' mode and is it possible to use it from the windows command line? Thanks!

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 27 16:56
it a a queue mode!
also you can "look" at command queue and copy&paste&edit it at your taste

BHH

Wakewatcher posted 2008 Dec 27 18:05
hmmm.. Not working. I downloaded it and put it in a folder along with copies of mencoder.exe, mplayer.exe and mp4box.exe Doesn't seem to need mkvmerge.exe. (whatever that is.) If I hit "Preview" lots of windows flash on my screen and mplayer comes up and does play video. However when I hit "Start" some windows command box comes up faster than I can read and disappears so I don't know what it says. Anyway it happens so quick it must be crashing. -thx-

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 28 02:41
i have succesfully encoded your sample (simply hitting start)

i can suppose you have a old mencoder build, try updating from sherpya site (for windows) http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php

or if you use linux try updating the mplaye and mencoder build

you can also add it to queue... then copy the line from queue to a comman box (or xterm) and launch it, for catching the error

Wakewatcher posted 2008 Dec 28 05:17
Thanks. I've been playing with this since.. A couple of observations. First of all great wrapper you have put around mencoder and mp4box! I noticed that when this runs if you pause the cmd window that the initial Vdecoder fails. (Then it looks like it uses something from ffmpeg and continues.) I set the quality to 30 for both min and max and resize to a multiple of 16 for both height and width (544 x 368) to get better compression and it gives me a similar size to what I am looking for but the reduced keyframe doesn't seem to take. That is if I set to 4 like I do with x264 I don't get the same crisp scrubbing so something is not quite right. (Although I see the parameter is set in the mencoder parameter string so not sure what's happening.) The good news is that I've got the generated bat files to look at and hopefully can figure something out. A couple of years ago I used an mencoder solution but had better luck with x264 until I ran into this .MOD file problem. Maybe x264.exe has been updated since I last downloaded it. Also I notice that if I turned the audio off "No Audio" that no output file is produced. Thanks for your help. I think I'll go try to get some sleep now.

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 28 06:50
thanks Wakewatcher

BHH

Wakewatcher posted 2008 Dec 28 13:33
Generating a nice file size for me now without the audio but I am still having problems with keyframes (I think.) Can you point me to a good reference for mencoder and the h264 encopts parameters so I can study them. (I found this: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/mencoder.html but doesn't give any real details.)

Also just a thought. I have your "great" tool in my video tools folder but my subject material is on another drive. I think it would be nice if when then choosing the 'save file' that it defaulted to the folder of the 'open file' rather than the home directory of autox. (You likely still have to change directories but it isn't so far to click.)

Also I can't figure out how to set the presets. I assume that what those are is after I have made changes to the options I can save that as a preset. But so far I haven't figured out how to save my options.

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 28 14:07
about keyframes
could you post the command line (take it from queue)

this is the FULL mplayer and Mencoder manual with all x264 options explained (tecnical) http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html
this is the more readable manual http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/index.html , but not options is explained (just the most important one's)

about output folder.. i can do something.. let's wait new update

about preset.. you cannot save it
you can "load" the profile and change the x264 values in gui, but you cannot save it within gui
you should open the xml profile files and edit it

thanks for your test!

BHH

Wakewatcher posted 2008 Dec 28 14:31
I didn't find it in the Queue. But here is the generated Batch File.

"C:\vep\bin\mp4box.exe" -add autox264.h264 -fps 29.970 "K:\autoxfile.mp4"

I also noticed that the video size is different than expected. I'll upload files and pm you the address if you would like to look at them.

buzzqw posted 2008 Dec 28 16:01
removed the link, thanks for pointing it out :)

some consideration about sample encoded with avs video converter:
the encoded sample don't have b frames, so it's only p frames AND I frames, that's way is so seekable
also.. you have to edit to 4 (or more, i suggest 25) the "Maximum GOP size" (the "keyint" NOT the "keyint_min")
you found it in More X264 Options (2), first at top left
after that you can seek wherever you want :)

Continues to be a great product! Up to now I've been making h264 mp4s with no audio. I'm now adding audio and notice that it takes two passes of mencoder to generate first the video then the audio and then using mp4box to glue them all together. Is there an option to do it all in one pass? Is it possible to have some defaults for making good, better, best mp4 videos?

hmmm... I'm not getting it to work (at all) now. First of all didn't it use to auto "Analyze" as now when I hit start it gives me the "Attention! Analyze file First" message?

Then when I click "Analyze with" I get the messages "Please, check autocrop value" (whatever "autocrop" is I don't see it on the page.) Then is gives me the same "Please, check autocrop value" again. Then it gives me a "unable to compute correct Aspect Ratio" (which I think you are calling "resolution") It then loads "interesting" numbers in the crop fields which I reset to "0" I then set the audio to MP3 Audio. When I run it and then try to play the video I get
this error: Error =2041: an invalid sample description was found in the movie (out.mp4)

Wakewatcher posted 2009 Jan 11 00:07
I'm baffled. What I did was after I ran autox264 I looked at the generated .bat file. What seems to be happening is that the mp4box is not pulling the audio in. I end up with a good "autox264.h264" file and what appears to be a good "audiox264-pidl.mp3" I discerned this by first running the mp4box.exe with just the .h264 file and it generated the .mp4. Then if I use quicktime to play the .mp3 file it plays and I hear the sound. BUT when using mp4box to add them together I get the following message.
:
Opening file audiox264.mp3 failed
Error importing audiox264.mp3: Requested URL is not valid or cannot be found

URL??? This is the autox264 mencoder script generated for the audio pass and mp4box pass:
:
"mencoder.exe" -mc 0 -noskip -aid 1 "wide'20081025 02.16.42.avi" -ovc frameno -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=96 channels=2 -af volnorm=2 -of rawaudio -o audiox264-pid1.mp3

"mp4box.exe" -add autox264.h264 -fps 29.970 -add audiox264-pid1.mp3 "autox264_wide'20081025 02.16.42.avi.mp4"

Can someone tell me what is wrong with these command lines? -thx-

buzzqw posted 2009 Jan 11 00:34
yes, the 0.13 has changed a lot the interface

follow these step for encoding

1) load the file
2) hit analyze file (with mplayer)
3) if you use mediainfo on above, hit detect crop on main panel (on resize&crop)
4) check if crop is ok (you can use preview)
5) set the encoding parameters (audio video)
6) click start

the problem you got with mp4box is due to your output file name, don't use . or ' in output file name
on autox264 you can even NOT set the output file name, it will automatically named autox264_yourfile.mp4 :)

BHH

Wakewatcher posted 2009 Jan 11 00:49
Thanks. What I described two posts up the thread was the result of doing what you said. When I load the file and hit the anaylze file I get those error messages. I don't know what 'mediainfo' is.

In my previosu post I just shorten the file names actually the input file name is: wide'20081025 02.16.42.avi and the generated mp4 was named: autox264_wide'20081025 02.16.42.avi.mp4. I do see there is a ' in the name but it does work when I'm not trying to incorporate audio.

have you downloaded the "applications" pack ?

download it, unzip in a folder named "applications" (and not "applications\applications")
put autox264 in the same level as applications folder

and just for your information what is the character "wide'20081025 02.16.42.avi" between wide and 2 ?

Wakewatcher posted 2009 Jan 11 01:18
Sorry I wasn't aware of the applications folder. I just downloaded the latest autox264. I will try that now.

Like I said the ' in the name has not caused any problems for me with video only. Are you suggesting that it is a problem when including audio? (Also I did a test by changing the file name to "test.avi" and got the same results. Were you able to run a test with the file I posted? Thanks for your help.

Hello,

first of all, congratulations for this nice program.

The main issue I have so far is with "set resolution" and "ar error". I see you're using mod 4, in theory that should allow lower ar errors. However, from a 1920*800 source, when I set width to 1280, gave a height of 520 and displayed an ar error of -0.0001, which is false, and since you use mod 4, it should have given 532. And if I set the height manually, it doesn't update ar/ar error (but it does if I set the width manually).

Also, having the option to save our profile (including the things in video filters and the audio settings) would be nice.

thank you

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 09 04:22
Hi Goblack!

AutoX264 will follow ITU resizing, so.. if you don't want it, go in "Subtitle&Muxing&Encoding" and de-check "Follow ITU"

UPDATE: added manual to first page
EDIT: UPDATE windows build (0.15.127), now ar error is computed when height is manually changed

BHH

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 09 16:45
thanks

ar error is now computed, but ar itself still doesn't change.

About using Avisynth (DGAVCINDEX), that opens a cmd, then DGAVCINDEX window opens, and whatever I do next, it just gives errors in the console.

I think that as is, DGAVCINDEX doesn't support mkv, so I guess I have to demux the file myself and then load it in autox264, but if I do that, then I have no way to compress the audio with your application.

Am I getting something wrong? How are we supposed to use DGAVCINDEX with your program?

I will run more tests and edit this message if I realise I made a mistake somewhere.

edit: just checked a file I encoded with your program, mediainfo says psy_rd=0.0:0.0, while I set psy_rd=1.0:1.0 in the program. I used mencoder for that encode. I confirm that the command was passed as psy-rd=rd=1.0[1.0] to the encoder and that the output file has 0:0 according to media info. Has my file been encoded properly, as specified?

thank you

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 09 23:40
DGAVCIndex doesn't support MKV, only m2ts with h264

for working with mkv you need to use or mencoder, or ffmpegsource, or directshowsource or ffmpeg

audio file could be encoded.. just open it as input file, and check "NO Video"

about psy-rd i will check too (btw i use avinaptic for analisys)

update the manual (added index)
update autox264 to 0.15.333 (windows only)

better suggestion of decoder on show info

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 10 06:55
thanks for the quick fixes

Regarding psy-rd, what was the problem? Did the files get encoded properly?

I guess the only thing missing now is the ability to save settings (I don't mind editing xml files to create my own profile, but I see no way to select things such as resize filter/bitrate and other options, I have to enter those each time).

Also, do you intend to add support for other audio codecs (such as ac3)?

thank you

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 10 07:05
psy-rd were simply not applyed

:
Also, do you intend to add support for other audio codecs (such as ac3)?

i will stick with standard MP4 codecs, so H264 for video and MP3 and AAC for audio.

i don't think to change this (but as usually i changed my mind often.. ;) )

BHH

ckmox posted 2009 Feb 10 08:02
i think Psy RD is still not working because of this
"psy-rd=rd=0.6[0.0]" i think it should be "psy_rd=0.6[0.0]" like this?

because i toyed around with psy rd strength and media info always give me this
"psy_rd=0.0:0.0"

or maybe the negative sign you put on psy-rd is actually a underscore?

im not that good in programming by the way just educated guesses there

this is a great program by the way its like batch recoder with power features ^^

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 10 08:20
please redownload the autox264.exe

is 0.15.139 build

i fixed other issue like double launch of dgindex/dgavcindex, status bar message for suggested decoder (mplayer only)... and other minor fixes

BHH

ckmox posted 2009 Feb 10 09:37
yeah 0.15.139 build solve Psy RD
but the audio doesnt load for reencoding

can you fix it i think it has something to do with this parameter "-nosound"

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 10 09:43
sorry pal.. i don't understud your problem

could you explain ? :o

BHH

ckmox posted 2009 Feb 10 09:56
ah sorry about that hehe

when i used your older builds like v0.15.122.1246 the audio can be encoded too like the video and the video and audio are muxed at the end of encoding and i can play it with both video and audio intact

but now with v0.15.139 the audio is nowhere to be found on the encoding process and when its mux there is no sound when playing the encoded file only the video

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 10 10:01
???

raw audio and video files are found in autox264 folder

AND in output folder you found the muxed file

you can check it by add to queue the job

BHH

ckmox posted 2009 Feb 10 10:08
dont know what happen but when i open the program again now
and queue it up there are 3 jobs (before it was only 2 the video and muxing)

thanks for the reply anyway

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 10 10:09
maybe you select "No audio" ?

anyway.. glad you resolved :)

BHH

ckmox posted 2009 Feb 10 10:16
no i analyze it with mediainfo (not mencoder this time) and it becomes 3 jobs again

yeah thanks again nice x264 encoder

and .. report any problem or suggestion !

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 10 22:17
hello, sorry to insist, but I've mentioned the option to save the settings twice already and you haven't replied, I take it you do not intend to add this anytime soon...

The way DAR is updated is unclear, it only changes with crop, doesn't show the new ar after resize, making it of very little use right now.

Another suggestion: since you use tabbed navigation, would be great to allow us to maximize the window, would display more tabs at once, making navigation quicker and easier.

thank you

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 11 01:17
@Goblack

sorry pal but autox264 is a free open source software (FOOS) and is developed on my spare time

DAR is computed on AR and crop, resize don't change it

UPDATE: rev 0.15.142 (windows, linux will follow)
dar is now changed on ar change
save settings now save: resizer, muxer, denoise
HIDDEN save settings for:

Manual Bitrate
Deinterlace

these value will not be automatically saved (i don't want to make it "sticky"), BUT it in autox264.ini is present "Deinterlace = XXXX " , without quotes, and XXXX is the name of interlace filter to load, autox264 will load it at every start
the same for "Manual Bitrate = 1500" , in this case it will automatically load 1500 as manual bitrate

remember that : "Manual Bitrate" and "Deinterlace" isn't saved by hit "Save Program Path" , you must write it in automen.ini

BHH

P.S. as now isn't possible to maximize window AND display more tabs

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 11 04:50
thanks again and sorry if it sounded like I was putting pressure, I just wanted to know once and for all if something would be done regarding saving settings as I had already asked a few times.

I didn't know it was open source. I might contribute to it later.

edit: just tried the new version, I see we have to click on "save programs path" to save settings, I guess renaming that to "save programs path and settings" would be self-explanatory. Last thing, when you have some time would it be possible to add save settings for audio and Follow ITU (like disabling it)?

thanks

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 11 05:40
update full windows package

addded in save settings follow itu
added eac3to support, now if input is mkv and users select DGAVCIndex as decoder, eac3to will be automatically called for demuxing video track (and audio too)
update all core sotwares

BHH

@Goblack
audio will not be saved (now)

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 11 07:27
wow, that was quick

now it gives negative height (right number, but there is "-" before it, so I guess it will be real quick to fix).

also, for subpixel refinement, is it normal that I have to set 6 in the xml to get 7 in the program? That would be starting at 0 vs starting at 1 I guess

nice update by the way :)

it's fun to see this program evolve

thanks

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 11 08:24

tried encoding a mkv file with DGAVINDEX, but first pass was twice as slow as with mencoder (main difference being that with mencoder first pass is in 3.0, and it is in 4.0 with dgavindex).

Same settings, including turbo first pass, were used in both cases. Is that normal? (first pass dgavindex much longer than first pass mencoder using same settings)

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 12 23:47
encoding with mencoder is a little faster then dgindex/dgavcindex, but only by marginal value (-+10%)

the difference could be caused by filters used (like deinterlace)

i will look at this.. maybe related to "turbo" setting in first pass

fixed : turbo were unused when encoding with avisynth/x264 (thanks to Goblack)
fixed: m2ts muxing was done twice
fixed: ffmpeg bitrate was computed wrong
fixed: detecting of ffmpeg executable (bug only for windows)
added: possibility to add an arbitrary string to avisynth script
changed: unit access delimiter (aud) is now active by default
added: preview button now allow to ear audio track selected

thanks again

I tried encoding a mkv file with internal subtitles (in the container, not hardcoded) and the output file had those subtitles hardcoded. (so it went from 3 tracks for source to 2 tracks for encode + harcoded subtitles)

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 03:59
this is a "issue" of mencoder :(

seems that subtitle found in mkv container will be always encoded on output video

i can only suggest to demux the mkv and remove or use ffmpeg
OR
use avisynth (ffmpegsource/dgavcindex for avc video)

BHH

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 04:42
hmm, that's annoying

On another forum, this problem has been reported, and a work around seems to be to set -sid <high value>

about the issue itself, on the forum it says:

:

So, I tried the "-sid <insanely high value>" method and it works.
Also, apparently the bug kicks in only when
1) there is vobsub subtitle and
2) that subtitle is the first one (in order of tracks) in the mkv file

about the "unit access delimiter (aud) is now active by default ", should that be used in most cases?

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 05:05
aud will not slow decoding and will not slow encoding , and will add very few mb (1 to 2) in a full cd rim

it is recommend for varius hardware player and will "robust" the file

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 08:06
thanks for the explanations

a few things:

  • I still don't get the DAR field and the way it is updated/set. Right now, from what I saw, this field only updates if "follow ITU" is changed (but even there you need to click on the height again or change resolution for the field to update) OR if a crop is added. Your program pretty much says that it is better to keep source AR as DAR rather than computing DAR from the new resolution.

How is the itu DAR computed? To me itu is a way to resize, this is what I understand so far, but here, if I set a itu resolution with itu disabled, still gives me source ar as dar, and if I set a non itu resolution with itu enabled, will still give me the itu dar. That doesn't make much sense to me. Am I missing the point?

  • in order to make the gui a bit quicker to use, would you mind adding some keyboard shortcuts? (things like "next tab", "previous tab") This way you don't have to redesign the gui but it is still improved.
  • as I said before, would be nice to able to save settings for profile and audio (I said for audio, but first time saying it for profile)

about the access unit delimiter, I found:

:
aud

Default: Not Set

Use access unit delimiters. Not for general use.

Recommendation: Default

Can this option be set in the profiles? If so, it would mean you are "altering" the profiles by enabling aud by default even though not specified in profile. If that can't be set in profile, then no problem I guess.

just trying to help here

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 11:11
the DAR is computed as
DAR=((FULL_WIDTH-Crop_Left-Crop_Right))/FULL_WIDTH)/((FULL_HEIGHT-Crop_Top-Crop_Bottom)/FULL_HEIGHT)*AR*ITU
where ITU=53.3333/52 or ITU=1 if deactivated

:
Your program pretty much says that it is better to keep source AR as DAR rather than computing DAR from the new resolution.

where ? the most important thing is the AR, the DAR is a derivative misure

moreover: i can be wrong ! :)

:
in order to make the gui a bit quicker to use, would you mind adding some keyboard shortcuts? (things like "next tab", "previous tab") This way you don't have to redesign the gui but it is still improved.

good idea!

:
as I said before, would be nice to able to save settings for profile and audio (I said for audio, but first time saying it for profile)

audio maybe, profile.. don't know.. better to modify a MeGui one to your taste

about aud on profile: megui profile's don't support AUD, when megui will support aud in profile i will add support for it too :)

thanks for your help and suggestio!

BHH

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 11:51
about profile, I didn't explain it well: I meant allowing us to define a default profile/preset instead of having to select it each time, didn't mean being able to save the profile settings from autox264. Saving the preset field, not the preset itself.

about dar, I still think this way to compute and update fields is confusing and not very thorough, but as you said dar itself isn't very important and can be changed at any moment.

I guess my question comes down to: why do you need to compute dar a different way when itu is on? And even with itu on, I can still change the resolution to something that has nothing to do with itu and I will still get itu dar.

Here I am mainly saying this aspect of your program isn't very robust. One way to make it a bit more robust would be to force the user to use an itu resolution when itu is on (only resize allowed would be with the slider). And when the user would try to type the resolution, there could be a pop up or something telling them they have to disable itu, or even a popup asking them if they want to disable itu and if "yes" is clicked, program changes it for user and/or takes him to the right tab.

thanks

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 13:10
about profile: like have a superset of profiles that will allow user to reload predefinied selections ?

about dar: dar is used for compute height, and sorry but i cannot uderstu why you think is confusing
dar must change when:
change height width of input
change ar of input
change crop values
allow itu or not (actually this change ins't automatic, to be fixed in next update)

ITU is a standard, and define the relations between width/height/frequency
again: imho itu change the dar, but i will glady correct it if mistake

moreover: why you speak of ITU resolution ?, do you mean forcing only standard ITU resolution ?
if so, the answer is not. As AutoGK, GK, Megui, FairUse, StaxRip... ITU can be allowed or NOT, not all video file follow the rules

users don't know what itu is, and that ok, if someone want to disable it and change width&height manually, it is allowed, but this isn't the normal way

i hope to understud you well

BHH

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 13:40
for profile, I meant something very simple: when you click on "save program path and settings", I just want it to save what profile is open right now. Or it could also be just remembering what profile was open last time you closed the program.

about dar, I also feel we're not talking about the same thing.

I'll try to be clearer: I was saying that your design is inconsistent and not robust.

If you're going to compare your itu implementation to that of a program such as staxrip (which I know quite well), that will be a long discussion. Open staxrip and compare it to your program... there is no weird aspect ratio, dar changes as video is resized, it uses mod 16 by default not your mod 2 hidden behind an out of nowhere 20 20 20 20 16 20 20 20 20 20 16 (I didn't count the amount of 20's between each 16, but I guess it is a fixed number) which I don't understand at all.

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 13:56
goblack feel free to ignore dar, ar, arerror and what ever you don't think is correct

just to this: launch staxrip, open your file, set crop and width
now open your file on autox264, check ITU or not, set crop and width

compare the height: are different ?

if yes: please post here all the values of this media file
if not: what's the problem ?

best regards

BHH

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 14:09
just read something you said I had not noticed (edited your post?):

:
dar must change when:
change height width of input
change ar of input
change crop values
allow itu or not (actually this change ins't automatic, to be fixed in next update)

I agree with that, but autox264 doesn't do it for "change height width of input", and this is one of the things I've been trying to explain you...,

your formula, it only calculates with initial resolution, doesn't recalculate when resolution changes...

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 13 16:14
i loaded a vob (matrix movie), hit analyze with mplayer and got a dar of 2.37 (itu off)

loaded an hd movie.. hit analyze, got a dar of 1.7647

if you change the input file and you hit analyze the dar change
BUT if you manually change with/height (of resolution box) the dar don't change, you must always pass from analyze button

BHH

P.S. not edited my post

Goblack posted 2009 Feb 13 16:47
what's the point of trying with more than one file, we're really not talking about the same thing...

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 14 00:51
width and height of input change only on input file change
on input file change the new ar/dar is computed

AutoX264 refuses to create a 640x480 file from a 720x480 DVD source. That's not good at all.

If I try to crop pixels from the sides, remove overscan, all hell breaks loose, and the resolutions are all over the place.

WTF?

I should be able to specify any output size into an encoder, and it had better bend over backwards to make that size happen. And it's not like I'm even trying anything weird here, 640x480 is a standard expected size.

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 16 13:21
please check the ar detected

about output size.. you can write how many mb you you want, or you can specify the bitrate

also, please post a sample to test

EDIT: you can always manually edit the height
EDIT: remember to activate or deactivate ITU resizing (*1.02xxx)

thanks

BHH

lordsmurf posted 2009 Feb 17 01:44
I don't have permission to post clips here. I guess I could try from another random DVD from my own collection.

By "output size" I refer to the resolution pixel dimensions, not the bitrate.

I don't see how to manually adjust the height, and I don't see the option for ITU resizing.

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 17 01:47
using the slider or manually writing , you can set width
after setting width you can manually set height

ITU (will be deactivated on default by next update) is on "subtitle&muxing&encoding"

lordsmurf posted 2009 Feb 17 04:12
If I click on the crop settings, the pixel res changes. If I crop, then change the res, it's fine. That was my problem, I kept clicking on crop last. Is that a bug?

I found ITU, thanks. I changed it to FFMPEG, and that's working well.

Encoding at about 20-30fps on AMD64 right now. It crashed the first time through.

I was aggravated a few posts ago, but it seems to be an okay GUI or task manager, whatever you call this sort of tool.

I'm not liking h264 at all, at least not on anything longer than 10 minutes. It's horrible to encode, worse than MPEG-2 in 2001.

buzzqw posted 2009 Feb 17 04:18
follow these step
1) load input
2) hit analyze with (mplayer or mediainfo)
3) if analyzed with mediainfo, click on Detect Crop (or no.. for no cropping)
4) activate, deactivate ITU, then adjust the resize , with slider or manually
5) select encoder/audio
6) start

ffmpeg is the WORST on h264 quality. i can suggest to use ffmpegsource (on windows) or mencoder (on linux)

on next update you will have less problem..

usually solved by closing and opening the program again

other encoder works very well.. when suited for input :)

click on "About Input" it will give some info about decoder

also, on manual i have written some note about input files and decoder

basically is this

vob/ts with mpeg2 codec: mencoder or dgindex or ffmpegsource
ts/m2ts with h264 codec: dgavcdec
mkv with h264: dgavcdec (plus eac3to)
mkv with all other codec: mencoder or ffmpegsource (or directshowsource)
mp4 with all codecs: mencoder or ffmpegsource
wmv: mencoder or ffmpeg

the directshowsource can always be used, if correct decoder are installed

The problem stay with audio and subs, the selection are only one audio piste and not both: exemple english and french in movie, i selectionne both but are 2 times the same ... 2x english or 2x french

the sub seem to not work in linux , it see the sub but not add in encode at end.

For the moment are only what i have see with a few problem all the rest work perfect :)

Thanks for your great work and i hope to see soon a new version special for linux :-)

take care

Message UPDATED:

After new test the lavf work with most movie but hwne it work not it crash the gui.

With mts2 the audio are not read and always problem with sub.. or when are 2 audio, only can be selectionned to work.

It will be nice when you can add the nero AAC encoder with megui profile for it.

sometime problem with preview with a few movie.

Thanks for all your effort and when you will do a perfect program you will become donation ;)

I want to increase the resolution and the size.Nothing more, but the process went done, exept the file saved came with audio in front of video about 1.5 sec. The video is delayed.
What should I do?

I don`t wanna bother u with stupid questions, perhaps the answers is here but needed the necesarry settings.
Best regards, Lucian

you can try to "force lavf demuxer", and/or updating mencoder build
or use a more advanced application like hdconverttox

Hi all,

first of all, congratulations on this GUI and on support for Linux user.
I have downloaded both v 0.17 and v 0.19 to use on my Ubuntu 9.04. Both versions can encode the video but i cannot encode the audio.

This is may test file (avi) : Xvid-MP3

I can open and analyze it:

Setting audio codec:

On the next window i have this:

I tried to check - unceck audio PID but i get always no sound encoded.

This is the bat window during encoding:

And the queue:

:
mencoder -vf harddup,crop=608:272:62:0,scale=384:172,hqdn3d=2:1:2  -sws 2 -aspect 2.4706 -of rawvideo -o "/home/checco/Scrivania/autox264.h264"  -nosound -ovc x264 -x264encopts crf=18:threads=auto:bframes=3:direct_pred=auto:me=hex:subq=6:turbo=2:frameref=3 "/home/checco/Scrivania/test.avi"
MP4Box -add "/home/checco/Scrivania/autox264.h264" -fps 25.000 "/home/checco/Scrivania/test.mp4"

Where is the mistake? Can someone help me?

Really sorry for this boring post (and for may bad english ;) )

Best regards,
Checco

Hey friend I can't help much because I know almost nothing about mencoder settings but the author of this software, buzzqw , checks these forums often so he will likely reply.

Also even though the official language of this forum is english , buzzqw is also from Italy so if you feel more comfortable posting your issue in your native language I know he could help you.

Hi (Ciao) Checco

from you image seems mplayer is unable to detect audio on your file
you have only "NONE" as audio to select

i can suggest to upgrade your mplayer build or try the AutoMen 6 (even if i doubt it can resolv your issue)

more "hope" you can got with autoffmpeg -> http://forum.videohelp.com/topic369767.html

Hi (Ciao) buzzqw,

thanks for the reply (thanks also to freebird73717 ;)).

With mplayer i can play that file (test.avi) without problem
However, tomorrow i'll do some more test, with the latest build.

Regards,
Checco

Well, updated Mplayer/mencoder to latest build (i think): 2:1.0~RC3+svn20090804-0 jaunty1
Once video is imported into Autox264, i can watch the preview without problem, with the audio.
When i try to encode: video is encoded, but not the audio.

Only works using Handbrake as decoder/encoder:

If I can do some more test, please tell me ;)

Thanks again.

Regards,
Checco

Sure. I tried a lot of movies. One is here: http://www.dvdloc8.com/clip.php?movieid=194&clipid=1
It's a public trailer downloaded from Digital Digest. Codec used for encoding : DIV3-MP3

AutoX264 v0.17 can analyze the video and show the preview (both video and audio), then encodes the video but not the audio.
Autox264 v.019 crashes after the "Analyze with (Mplayer)" command.

In the bat window (v 0.17), at the 5th line : "Audio stream Found"

But no audio is encoded.

The i tried an XIVD-MP3 public trailer: http://www.dvdloc8.com/clip.php?movieid=9153&clipid=4

Autox264 v0.17 again: audio stream found but not encoded.
Autox264 v0.19 as above: audio stream found but not encoded (this time no crash after analyze command)
Autox264 v0.19 with HandBrake as decoder/encoder : works, audio e video are encoded (see picture below).

The strange is that if i try the preview inside Autox264, or i try to open the movie directly with mplayer there's no problem on playback. I'm going mad :D

Thanks for your support.

Regards,
Checco
