Apex 1130 won't load disks?

donkey_puncher posted 2004 Mar 29 06:14
I picked up an Apex 1130 from Wall Mart around thanksgiving. It's worked fine, but yesterday I popped in a new DVD and it wouldn't load it. It just kept saying "Loading" on the screen. I thought maybe it was a bad disk and I tried several others. It still wouldn't load anything. While it's trying to load the disk I hear this whirling whispering sound coming from the unit. Anyone know if this is fixable or if there is something I could do?

It's a cheap unit so I'm not too worried about junking it, but I thought I should at least see if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a simple fix before I throw it in the dumpster.

Why don't you take it back to wallmart for an exchange ?

nerd-out.com has apex forums you can ask there they should have a forum specific for your model. Also unplug it for a minute or more & plug back in.

Will they take it back? It's been 4 months now.

I would certainly hope so, if it has a fault. Electrical items over here have a 12 month warranty as standard, sometimes longer. I know if I took it to an Asda Wallmart here they would exchange it.

They told me today that dvd players have 90 days to take them back.

If you can't return it, why not take it apart, and clean the laser lens.
What have you got to lose??
I have done this with a few units, and had great success.
If you are in a smokey or dusty environment, then a dirty laser could well
be the problem.
A drop of alcohol on a q-tip does wonders. This brought by Pioneer 105
back from the brink. After a bunch of coasters, I cleaned it, and have
50-ish flawless burns on the old girl.
Best of Luck

I ended up taking it back. However they would only let me exchange it for another player and they did not sell the 1130W any longer. I exchanged it for a Sanyo player that cost twice as much and then the next day returned the unopened new Sanyo player and they gave me a refund. I may go to Circuit City or somewhere else to find another player.
