Another install problem
AlecD posted 2008 Jun 03 09:01
Hi there,

I also am having binary install problems. I have all three binarys on the desktop, but get this error message when installing:

##sh: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file

I got all three files from the links in the ffmpegX install instructions.
I do have Admin privileges.
ffmpegX is in the shared Apps folder
I have removed the space from my boot disk name.

I have tried scourcing mpeg2enc various ways (from the zip file, and by copy/save as). I get the same error message each time. I don't think it matters, but I am confused about the correct suffix for this binary. Can it be .intel or .txt or blank?

TIA,

Alec

AlecD :
unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
This error line is usually related to an apostrophe/single quotation mark character. Do you have disk/folder/file names with that character (e.g. Alec's Disk) that could be related to the installation?

Indeed it doesn't matter. The installer will take the file you pointed to using the Locate button and copy/process it, regardless of the file name and suffix.

I got the exact same message, until I realized that I had a quote character in my ADMIN PASSWORD !

I changed my password to remove the quote, and everything ran fine. Obviously, this is a bug in ffmpegX.

Hope that helps

I removed the non alpha-numeric from the password and install seemed to go fine.
I then was asked 'Where is progress.app?' Finally discovered from this forum that ffmpegX.app should be selected.
First .flv being generated as I type!

Thanks,

Alec
