| :( In Premiere cs3 the video in the preview screen moves slowly & does not synchronize the audio ... In Premiere cs4 it freezes & does not move while the audio runs well.
I have 2.55 GB free space on C drive & 1 GB ram :?: How to solve this problem ? | ||||

Premiere CS3 needs a Core2Duo for most compressed formats. What is a "3000"? | ||||

That processor should handle MPeg2. xvid is not supported by CS3. You would need to decode it to uncompressed, MPeg2 or DV format. | ||||

| I've used both in PP CS4 before, and it should work fine. Do you have ffdshow installed? That is what is used by CS4 to decode Xvid/AVI files (it uses a directshow import). (enable xvid in the ffdshow configuration, set to libavcodec)
What audio formats? Use mediainfo (view=>text) | ||||

| CS3/4 would not support xvid for preview window playback out of the box. It would look to Directshow.
That doesn't mean xvid is supported as an import standard. | ||||

| I would also get more system memory, as PP CS4 eats a lot - it's a hog. 1GB is not enough. You can open up taskmanager and see how much is being used by your applications. Close down non-essential programs
I would put your source files on a separate hard drive and free up space on your C: drive. 2.5GB free is tiny and it's probably fragmented. It is probably swapping to the page file with such low memory. This "thrashing" will greatly reduce performance. I would also defrag once you free up some space | ||||

- About the HDD , I increased the partition C: (8 GB free after installation ) & defragmented the entire HDD - About RAM , I ll increase it , because the problem is not solved yet. ... and I ll inform u about the result. - I face another problem ... | CS3 works very slowly on a single-core machine,
and CS4 won't even run. I only use CS3 on dual core with 2GB RAM, and CS4 only on dual or quad with at least 4GB RAM. 8GB free? You need a much larger hard drive. Honestly, you need to convert the XVID pre-Premiere, using something like VirtualDub, to a lossless intermediary like HuffYUV or fully uncompressed YUY2. DirectShow decode in Premiere, for compressed formats, really sucks. For an older machine like that, you may need to consider finding Premiere 6.5 instead. It's far more stable on single-core systems, and more stable than some of the early Premiere "Pro CS" versions.

Than Q so much 4 very good information - I ll upgrade my PC ... but I mean 8GB free after installation ... the whole partition is 15 GB ... The whole HDD is 640 GB ...
