DVD-R made by Bencole does not work on this Sony writer. It writes about 90% of the data or video and then fails everytime after that. Why Sony dirve has such a BAD compatibility?

I just got this drive for Christmas. I can't wait to try it out.

This is a very good drive. Love it. I have been using all Memorex DVD+R 4x media for months, burning >100 without a single coaster. However, with a recent Memorex DVD+R 4x 25pk spindle that I bought, it got a writing error when recording a movie up to 93-96% of disc volume. I went out and bought another Memorex 25pk spindles, it recorded fine. I suspected that I got a bad batch of the Memorex media, not the drive.

No coasters so far- using firewire with Verbatim DVD-R (about $1.00 each on sale from Office Depot)and Verbatim DVD+RW from Sams Club (I don't remember how much I paid for those)with this drive. I initially had problems with backing up DVD's using 321 Studios Platinum, but it was a software problem with Platinum, not the Sony drive. This problem was fixed with version 3.2.1 of Platinum. Other than that, this is a great drive.

Love my Sony. It tears through just about anything.
Havent made a coaster with it!

Sometimes when making a DVD ISO file with Nero, I get 11Mps thats like 76x times ripping!

Awesome

Just bought drive last week. Burned a few DVDs using generic media from Meritline (thier 4X sampler pack). Only problem was it crashed my Firewire card (had to re-seat the card) when I tried to watch a "dvd-shrunk" movie prior to "back-up" onto media. Might be software though Ive never had the card crash like that before. I love the DLA software it comes with. It lets you use a DVD-RW disk as a drag and drop mini hard drive.

Great drive. I have however got alot of coasters using Memorex 4x DVD-R media. Switched to Sony and burned at 2x all seems fine now. Anyone else with issues with Memorex?

I Love this drive!. I first bought the HP 300e and burned several coasters (never a single successfull burn) on 3 different computers. Brought that HP back and bought this Sony. So far I have had ZERO problems (Same 3 computers), but have not been using 4x media yet.

Going to BestBuy to get some 4x to enjoy the faster burns, but after my last experience, you can see why I didn't invest on expensive disks... yet.

Bought one at CompUSA with a pack of DVD+R media (compusa branded 2.4x) and haven't had one problem with it.

Just need to follow some guides here now to figure out how to use it more efficiently. This drive rocks!

Worked perfect for one month.
Drive died last night.
When I inserted media to burn, the drive light started flashing very fast, maybe 3 times per second non stop, and would not begin the burn. Could not open the drive with the button or software.

Sony is sending me a RA to return.

This is the first time I've ever had a problem with a Sony product.

I absolutely LOVE this drive. It's just a DRU510A in a Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure but is an awesome buy for $50 more over the internal model. I continually swap it between 5 different PCs over the firewire, USB 2.0, and archaic USB 1.1 (1 is a Mac) and no problems with any of them. The update from the 1.0b to 1.0c firmware update uses the exact same Updater as well so no real complications there. Burns are perfect every single time and I have yet to have any issues with the burned DVD-Rs working on anything else. I'm using the 4x Certified Riteks and I'm half way thru the stack of 100 and haven't seen a coaster or even one bade sector and I've even bumped the drive a couple times pretty hard by accident while it was burning. The equipment I have used to read though is as follows...

X-Box
PS2
Apex AD-1000
Creative 6x DVD-Rom
Sansui CDVD9000B DVD/TV Combo Unit
