I purchased this DVD writer in January and when I turned on my computer 3 weeks ago it would no longer show up in the device manager. I have tried everything I know to get it to work and every suggestion from guru friends of mine with no working results. It shows power to the unit and the drawer opens and "Taht's all folks"!

I gave it a 5 because it worked great for me for 10 months almost no coasters for cd or dvd. Then I used the included auto udate software (it told me there was a firmware update available) ran the update successfully. It told me to restart, I did, and now the computer will not boot if the drive is conneceted to the computer, gets stuck in POST test, and the tray eject button does not respond. The LED light is stuck on and nothing else happens. So either the included autoupdate software is junk or I got a false positive that the firmware upgrade worked. Forget about support their call center doesn't want to touch this issue. Great drive otherwise, just don't update the firmware!

Pro: Dynex DX-DVDRW16 ok software with the drive NERO6 OEM, came with a auto firmware update software. Has burned 8 TDK DVD+R with out a coaster both data and video. Have burned 5 Memorex CD-R disk without a coaster. Not extremely fast for a 16x drive more like a 12x. Appears to be made by LG (LG4161).

Cons: Does not support DVD RAM and is rather loud when it writes to the media.

Com: Have had the DX-DVDRW16 for one month
