My XBR413 is about 3 months out of warranty and will no longer record (or play) DVDs. It will play CDs and CDRWs just fine. Zenith wants over $250 to replace the DVD-RW drive, so I'm going to try to replace it myself. I have pulled the drive out and installed it in my PC with similar results. I replaced the drive with a DVD+-R/RW drive, but it does not work (yes, I tried a new IDE cable and checked the jumpers first). Does anyone know what the OEM is for the DVD-RW drive that is in the Zenith XBR413? I called Zenith and they can't (or won't) tell me. Thanks in advance!

To ELECTRONICSNERD -
I saw your instructions to get this unit to play VCDs. Unfortunately, when I serched the Go Video site, the only upgrades I found were to stop the "disk full" message from appearing.
Any help would be appreciated!
About this unit - I had problems in the beginning. I had to return it to the factory several times. However, since them it has worked like a dream! LOL If it would only play VCDs I could die happy! |

Have only tried a few formats so far. Unable to get svcd or divx movies to work. Have yet to try and burn a dvd yet. Player does have component outputs, s-video output and a optical audio output.

| Works very well. Tried recording DVD from DV using DVD-R and tried the VHS recording. So far so good. Tried to play all kinds of media, but this would not play VCD/SVCD. But there is a fix for it though. This is identical to Go Video VR4940, so download the software upgrade from Go Video's web site and upgrade as suggested on Go Video's site. After the upgrade all features of VR4940 would work on your Zenith XBR413 and you will find that what you have is now a Go Video VR4940 inside a Zenith XBR413 box. |

one button copy to or from DVD and VHS is great.
remote is confusing at first, but graphic menu helps greatly |

| I bought the XBR413 about a month ago at Best Buy. It is a snap to copy non-protected VHS tapes, insert a tape and a blank DVD-R disc push two buttons and take a nap!The quality of the DVD depends greatly on the tape and the times are limited to 1, 2 and 4 hour recordings. There is a great DV input for a DV camcorder. There are a lot of other features which I haven't explored as I am mostly using it to convert old VHS tapes to DVD. When finalized the DVD's play on any player. In summary it is somewhat limited in features but very simple and easy to use. |
