Everything is ok, with little problems:

1. Noise
2. 100% burning DVD+R or DVD-R only with Verbatim media, because that I use only verbatim DVD RW disk
3. when is HDD full, cant divide title or delete chapter , otherwise when is HDD full several function dont work

My general opinion about the Sony DVD recorder (HX910) is good. In this year experience I recognised two problems:
1. high speed dubbing (from HDD to DVD)
2. quick timer feature
For the first point I was not able to find a way to duplicate in high speed mode. The device takes the decision autonomously and in 80% of the cases he works only at low speed (x1).
For point n°2 there is no reaction of the device when I press the record button several time: neither changes on the display nor start of the quick timer function.
Please, can someone help me to solve the two problems ?

thank you.

I've had the opportunity to try the Sony 1010 & 710 models for 5 days long and must say that the only real positive aspect about these recorders is the picture quality. As for the sound,it miserably is not what you ought to expect from such pricy machines,it sounds feeble, very little dynamic and unprecise even when you use the coaxial or optical output through an external amplifier. The suppression of an A to B portion ( publicity?),is unreliable as well as there always remains portions of what you actually wanted to get rid of.As though this weren't enough, the point where you made a cut( transition !) tends to freeze when playing on a DVD player. My conclusion is that it's worth an 8 for the picture but a 2 for the rest.I hope that Sony will in the future resolve these problemes I mentioned,in which case it would be a great DVD recorder.

Buying this (in the UK, online) has made a tremedous difference. It has UK Freeview built in and can dub from my old VCR collection onto HD and from HD to DVD. DVD player is very good quality. It plays flawlessly DVDs that cause errors on my cheap Toshiba DVD player. Has a very good EPG built in, so recording off-air is very simple. Very simple to use controls for editing (e.g taking out the adverts) before dubbing (=archiving) stuff to DVD. Dubbing can change compression of recordings so that movies >4.6GB can be compressed onto single layer DVD. Also records to DL disks. These play fine on the Sony, but not on some other DVD players (that can't handle DL recordable). All play fine on my Mac.
jpeg play works but does not deal well with files in folders.

I have two Sony recorders: RDR HX-710 and RDR HX-910 and both display the following problem:
no matter what HDD to DVD-R dub speed I use (fast or real-time) the finalised discs will not play reliably at over 8X fast forward, neither will they allow the "Next" chapter function. I am recording TV programmes to HDD in SP mode. In both cases the disc crashes the player software (both with PowerDVD on a PC and on stand-alone DVD players).

I have checked the DVD-R media I am using (Imation 8X discs) and the Nero CD-Speed software confirms that they are OK at 12 x speed recording. The number of record errors are OK too.

I would have rated both players a "9" if is weren't for this annoying bug/problem.

Excellent quality of recording in hard disk, and good quality of recording in DVD in spite of the few intermediate adjustments of recording. Excellent analogico tuner of TV. Very easy to use and good edition in hard disk.
The DVd with very good quality reproduces. Menus in DVD its poor. I have had problems recording in DVD+R DL, because the consumable was a bad single quality and can´t reproduce the second layer.

Good option of purchase

High speed dubbing from HDD to DVD works only with the same settings ex: HDD SP > DVD SP setting, then it's fast.
Editing on HDD is pretty good working and precise.
Exellent unit from sony, i'm happy with it.

In the previous comments there is a questionmark behind MP3. This can be removed because this machine plays MP3's very well.

I am quite happy with the player/writer. It plays discs that my Philips 6xx model would not. I cannot get the high-speed dubbing from HDD to DVD to work, which is a pain because it always take hours to copy to DVD. Other than that, I do not notice any "fan noise" that others have complained about for this model and the HX700. Oh, and you can hack it region free, which is very nice for me - coming from the US.

When you record a TV program or a home video you usually first store it on the 160 Gb harddisk, at a later stage you store the title on harddisk to a DVD. You can only record from one source at the same time, in the meantime you can still watch another title stored on disk. Up to the point where you finalize the DVD the sony recorder recognizes the DVD, and you can still add titles to it. At this point you can't read this DVD on another DVD player. This is only possible after you finalized the DVD. The manual is long and not well written, and it took me some time to find out what "finalize" a DVD means. Overall the DVD HDD recorder works as advertized, the fan is a little bit noisy. There are many features that I like.
