| I wanted to put a long term test review up here. I've used this recorder for over a year with outstanding results. I have recorded a couple of hundred films in mostly the 4 hour mode, unless I want really outstanding quality then I use the 2 hour or customizable mode. I have also transfered in all my home movies on Hi8 as well as my friend's off of VHS/VHS-C, all using the XP (1 hour) mode. I couldn't be happier. I mostly use CompUSA (Princo), Sony and TDK discs with no problems. As stated earlier, the Fujis gave me a terrible time when I bought the unit. I also recently tried Memorex, and as another reviewer stated, I had issues. I did have them work, but I had the first disc fail on the thing in almost a year, so Memorex might be one to stay away from. This unit is GOLD! Buy it, especially if you can get it as cheap as I did... $250!! |

This unit will not read Verbatim DVD-R media.I have a Toshiba D-KR2 that wont read Verbatim either.CompUsa DVD-R media works in both units.TDK works in both units also.So I say stay away from Verbatim DVD-R's
I like to use the automatic function in record to make the best quality dvd's.The XP mode is great for dubbing stuff thats less than an hour.

This recorder works really good ... whith the right media!
Don't buy memorex, they sucks. I also had problems with verbatim discs.
It seems that the problem is just that, bad discs.
TDK and Maxell work superb.
I also paid $ 249 and I very satisfied with the machine. |

| Ok, Now to revamp my critique of this recorder. I figured out the problem, with no help from Samsung technical support. The recorder hates Fuji media(which I use all the time in my Sony U10 burner. I switched to Verbatim and have burned a whole spindell with NO problems. Now, I think it's a great recorder for a bargain price!! |

| I am going to return my second one of these. As the other reviewer stated, it is exactly the same as a Panasonic, but I don't think it has the same durability. I am trying to record my VHS collection to DVD-R. A lot in the high quality 2 hour mode, some in the 6 hour vcd quality mode. After running for a few hours, it won't record another DVD. It resets itself, as if a power failure occurred. You have to be patient and eventually you get it running. I thought the first one was defective, but it seems it is a problem with the model. This one is going back for sure. I do not recommend it, regardless of the price. And BTW: I got it in South Florida for $250. That's what made me buy it. It isn't worth that much. |

Great Item! I'm using it to capture old VHS tapes with no audio glitches with my other capture devices... Most of my capture is to DVD-RAM, then using Ulead MovieFactory 2 to burn to Disc on my PC (just ignore the AC3 error message when importing files). (Hint-put only one program on a disc at a time to keep titles separate).
A clone of the Panasonic E-50 (check out that one's comments) down to the part number stamped on the chassis! Recording at 2Hr speed is superb - 4Hr Speed is OK with good source material (Satellite, first generation tape) [Use 2hr speed with the older stuff]. The TBC is great - discs don't die when the tape glitches!
Picked up for $299 new in box at Conn's in Dallas - well worth the cost. |
