Update from my original review in 2007

A few firmware updates, which have corrected some of the small issues.

Overall this unit has been absolutely fine over the past year and half.

Discovered why the flickering between non-rgb and rgb when bring up a menu, caused by having the unit in "TV mode", which is used for pass-through from external source, i.e. the TV. On my setup there was no externals source so in TV mode is showed the output from the Lx60D but in non-RGB mode, when an operation that caused a menu to be shown, it would swap from TV mode to DVD mode which swapped the output to RGB, which caused the flicker.

BTW I did get rid of my Humax box

Seems to play everything I have thrown at it.

It plays DivX with AC3 very well.

There are some annoying things about this unit:

Can't copy DivX files to Harddisk, you can copy Jpeg and Mp3 but not DivX!!

Connecting a USB device to this unit can take a few attemps before it see it. Usb device is not considered as a drive (only two modes DVD and HDD) so you cannot play divx files from it :(

The menu system is a bit klonky, sometimes you get a menu item (e.g. HDD sleep) which say "next screen" only to find the next screen had only one item (Turn HDD to sleep). The GUI is well, a bit lacking, my humax freeview box (£65) has a much better gui than this. The digital guide is a gantt style viewer but there is no time line. Programs on the chart need to be a multiple of half an hour, so you only on program in a half hour block with an indicator that says "actually there more than one program in this block"

Watching freeview in not outputted in RGB on scart, but when you select an option that brings up a menu item the display switches to RGB, on my Philips TV cause flicker when mode change happens

The unit can support USB keyboard, but there is only one USB socket at the front, how simple would it have been to have another a the rear of the unit.

The remote feels slightly cheap, the jog wheel really feels cheep, and can be over sensitive, useful function are hidden under slide away cover which is not easy to open. My old DV-737 had a much better quality remote.

I also think that it's a bit fussy with playing DVD, I have a film that I know has a slight manufactured fault, the old DV-737 play all but once place on the disk. This unit could not play 3 whole chapters.

I think the unit is basically good, records off freeview, plays divx, views Jpeg off camera, plays music off MP3 player, copies from DV camcorder to hdd and plays DVDs.

Is it worth the cash? I'm not too sure

Am I getting rid of my humax freeview box? No
