I use this for creating DVDs of my professional work and am pretty pleased with it. I usually record via firewire from my Apple laptop but also from my cameras. It also gets used as a firewire/RGB converter to feed a monitor. Making small numbers of copies is easy.
I have had two problems, one of which is as yet unresolved, the first was resolved by a call to the service centre who described the re-set procedure which worked a treat.
It got damaged in transit shortly after I got it and I think its a testament to its quality that it despite having a noticable bend in it, it still works fine (most of the time) |

| I'm very satisfied with this equipment. I don't record anymore VHS tapes, I record on the hard disk and save to DVD only what I want. It seems well built and had no problems with it. Plays almost everything and records DVD-R and DVD-RW with very high quality, even in LP mode. Very different from VHS low quality. I use it almost everyday, and the 80GB HDD is a Godsend. Is expensive but it worth the price. |

I have used this machine for 6 months now and I really cannot fault the package.I use it for time shifting recording tv programs, archiving my DV tapes etc etc.
The fine quality 9mb/srecording is very good also the 2hour 5mb/s the lower sampling rates are good
It still stands out as having firewire in/out which works very well.It even records from my hi fi in 48khz audio--very good for archiving my vinyl onto the latest ,cheap dvd blanks!
At £530 in uk it's hard to complain |

I'm happy with the functionality.
One big problem: running diagonal lines on the screen
on some channels. I know, this is noice on the cable, but
all other devices (TV's, VCR, PC card, DVD recorder of
Philips) don't have this problem (tested in same
conditions).
Pioneer told me "the tuner functions normaly". So I
conclude the Pioneer tuners are of inferior quality?
Otherwise, very happy with the device. |

| Fantastic image/sound quality. Removing commercials is a breeze. Films recorded into the hard disk can be transferred to DVD at 4x speed or adjusted for the size of the DVD if larger at 1x speed. Recompiling keeps very well the image quality. Overall a great machine, this kind of configuration (DVD writer/hard disk) is clearly the future. |

DVD-R/RW burner with 80 gb hard disk
Combo DVD HDD used primairly to duplicate and edit SVHS videos and digital (firewire)videos. Works well for basic cutting and pasting. Allows different levels of resolution for making DVD-r disks. Create menus of recordings.
As a TV recorder programs easy has manual commercial skip feature . Can play DVD and copy to HDD simultaneously. Finalized disks have played on panasonic portable, JVC, Sony and Gateway DVD players. Used Sony, JVC and Reitek DVD-R and JVC-DVD-RW media. no coasters yet |

Great device!!
Reads/plays nearly everything: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD, MP3-files, WMA-files, JPEG-files (last five from CD, CD-R, CD-RW)
Records on HDD, DVD-R, DVD-RW
Time-shift functionality on HDD and DVD-RW
High-speed copy mode (copies a 2h HDD recording in 15min to a 4x DVD-R!!)
Easy to operate, good picture quality (FINE & SP mode)
Cons:
Timer programing not possible while recording. Have to wait until recording has finished.

Excellent editing capabilities.
Can record to hard disk and playback from the DVD drive at the same time.
You can watch a movie, listen to mp3s while recording on the hard drive.
You record at fine quality (10 Mbits) and then ask the recorder to fit the programme on the DVD-R. The recorder reencodes the video at VBR and burns it on the DVD. This is done at realtime speed. (e.g. you have a 2:30 hour program... reencode will take 2:30 hours)
If you have a programme that can be fitted to the disk without reencoding you can copy it at 4x (that means 15 minutes for a full disk!) |
