I bought this thing about 3 years ago. A nice affordable recorder, but it does not support +R and +RW media. Some reviewers are giving it a yes for support because it plays back that type of media. This is a DVD recorder, and I am assuming most people reading these reviews are looking for information in that regard. What's the point of playing back formats that it can't record? I never watch my DVDs on the recorder. Save the wear and tear by buying a seperate DVD player for watching movies. There are much better multi-format, progressive scan players out there for less money. The recorder basically is a nice replacement for a VCR, as long as you use -R/RW media.

If I were to buy another recorder today, I wouldn't purchase this model. Get one that supports all formats, specically Lightscribe.

this is a great dvd recorder. i wish it would play PAL disc's though. i'm not talking about out-of-region discs, it wont even play region-0 PAL discs. it will play them, but the dvd player will not convert on the fly to NTSC like many other pioneer dvd players.

it will not play DVD+R DL discs.

the manual is available online.

the dvr-220 & dvr-225 are the same players, just different model #'s.. 220 is for wal-mart, 225 is for other retai outlets.

the 320/325 is the same dvd recorder, it just has DVI.

everything worked great, except some time had multi-colored rainbow on tv RF & coax inputs which would go away after about a minute.
Loved the fact that you could select DVD VR mode or standard DVD video mode.
got rid of unit because it's remote conflicted with my TIVO. If not for the TIVO problem i would still have unit

I've had this DVD Recorder for about a month now and I love it. It works great and the on-screen interface is very simple to use. The best thing about it is that it also supports DVD+R/RW/R+DL (dual layer). I spoke with technical support at Pioneer to see if this player supported the + media and sure enough it does. The person I spoke to said that it reads most if not all name brand DVD+R/RW/R+DL. I've tried Memorex DVD+R's and they work fine. The player will only write onto DVD-R/RW but from what they tell me it can read all + media as long as it's a good brand of DVD. Overall this is a great DVD Recorder in its price range. I was contemplating on returning the unit because I thought it didn't support the + media but now that I know it does, I'm happy to say that I will be keeping it. Highly recommended.

I really Cannot fault this machine so far, I picked up from Bestbuy for $249 (with 10 Free DVD-R Discs)

So far I've transferred 25+ VHS tapes to DVD-R without a problem.

I have used SP setting mainly for recording, with some tapes transferred in EP/LP. SP is great for just about anything, unless you need more than 2 hours. Results with EP/LP may vary depending on the quality of the tape source.

It has also provided good results recording from Tivo, and DVD sources.

Simple to use good quality machine with a nice bunch of inputs.

I spent 2 weeks researching all the machines under $250 and this one came out top. A pleasure to use.

I have not tried much yet, but the DVR225S cannot play PAL video on an NTSC screen, to my dismay. Did successfully record to both a DVD-R and a DVD-RW. Has four quality settings (Fine=1 hour, SP=2 hours, LP and EP), but LP and EP look pretty poor (at least coming from a relatively noisy VHS source). Also has a proprietary VR recording mode that allows for editing, as an option (only playable on other Pioneers I believe), as well as normal (less editable) DVD format.

This particular model may be specific to Best Buy stores. The manual is not available online from Pioneer, although other models have close to the same feature set.
