A good and silent quality player, but.....
Install menu helps you getting started the first time.
Sorting the channels is difficult, but even worse is renaming files without 'multitap' function! Instead of the 'multitap' function as on Philips DVDR720, you have to use up/down and wait for the correct letter.
You can only archive/save to DVD one title at a time. Very annoying if you have many small files, like music videos.
You can't change file index picture (as on Philips DVDR720).
A good thing is low noise from fan. |

Well could be better. It doesn't support writing to HDD from DVD/CD only video stream from other source *(ext dvd/cd player,TV,DV-Camcorder). The reading speed of JPEG images is very very slow. If the CD has any bad files the recorder will freezes and the only thing you can do is unplug it from electicity *(the on/off or open/close buttons will have no effect at all)!
Otherwise is good. Recording from TV to HDD is great. The renaming of the Title and moving of the Channels is a pain in the a...

| Pretty good recorder at reasonable price (about USD 400) Records well on both HDD and DVDs. Was a bit sluggish occationally, but Philips sent me an upgrade to the player that made it faster and more responsive. Recommended. |

I've not tried at all any other DVD stand-alone recorder and I can't compare it; anyway I preferred this than LG RH7500, I hope I made the right choice.
Recording is quite easy, the quality at LP setting is good with no artifacts or noise: I recorded in a DVD-R 100 minutes in about 65-70% of the max. capacitity and I was able to read it from my old Sony DVD player, absolutely the worst to understand little bit scraped or homemade DVD.
In the beginning I was scared about the editing features, very basically; You cannot edit by time but only jump through chapters and then move with x4-x8-x16 or x32 forward or bacward; anyway, however you need to spend extra-time, you can easy remove advertising and early rec starting.
Now I'll try deeper this recorder; for the purposes I need (record dramas, docs and movies from SKY) seems it works very well.
In my opinion could be better with recording from DVD to HDD, Dual Layer recording, a more detailed messages on front display, a SD/CF card reader.
Non so bad the price: 481 USD (399 Euros), agaist the 457 USD (379 Euros) for LG RH7500 in an electronic mall ("Expert", Milan - Italy). |

Only used it for a couple of days, but the recorder seems excellent.
It automatically records the current channel in a buffer (up to 6 hours), letting you pause and jump backwards/forwards in the buffered recording. You also have the option to permanently record the selection you want from the buffer.
You can watch a previous recording while recording a new one. Even timer recordings just start automatically even if you are watching another recording. If you are watching another channel through the recorder when a timer recording is about to start, it asks you to change the channel before it starts recording.
It has basic editing, meaning you can add or delete chapters and hide/unhide them. The hidden chapters are not transferred to DVD. A cool feature is that when you are watching a recording, you can press edit at any time and insert a chapter.
Chapters are inserted automatically at every 5 minutes in a recording.
Tried to burn a DVD-RW with one recording, and my PC played it without any problems.
Excellent picture quality on SP (Standard). HQ is the best.
Very low noise from the fan and harddisk. It does not make any more noise than my old VHS-player (which is retired. :-) )
Couple of minor negative things:
You can not record directly to DVD.
The setup process of moving and renaming channels is a pain. But this is something you only do once.
It is not possible to jump into a recording by entering a time, only possible to enter chapter number.
It is a bit slow when jumping back and forth in recordings.
Excellent recorder for the money!
(DVDR3330H is the exact same recorder but with 160GB harddisk.) |

DVD recorder with HDD. Supposedly able to record to both DVD+ and DVD- R/RW. But only things that are allready on the HDD. Direct to DVD recording is not supported acording to the manual.
I have only tried HDD recording and it works great. At High Quality setting even football (soccer if you are american) gets encoded well...
Recomended! |
