Every nice unit
Plays backed up DVD-r's
DVD RAM
Easy record and review functions
I have only used RAM to record, so I don't know about the Disc finalizing times, but I can transfer data to my PC using Nero and burn to other media for archiving

So far no problems.
Much clearer picture then my Liteon 5005's.

Has a nice feature called flex-recording that varies
the recording speed to fill a DVD with the preset time.
i.e. If I want to record a 2:15 minute movie with my Liteon, I am forced to use the 4 hour mode and reduced quality. With the Panasonic, it adjusts the speed to fill the DVD with 2:15 minutes of recorded material.

There are a few more steps needed to finalize and format DVD's then on the 5005 but, the resulting image is worth it.

Only minor gripe I have is that there does not seem to be a battery back-up for the clock settings, it must use a capacitor. If the unit if off for longer then a short period of time, you must reset the clock. Knowing this would not stop me from buying another just like it though.

Also has the HDTV up-converter to convert output to HD capable TV.

I've used:
Sony DVD+R (SONY D21)
Fujifilm DVD+RW (Daxon D42)
Panasonic DVD-RAM (Matsushita M01J3004)
Each disc type works fine every time I've tried them (many times each so far and still going).

also plays DVD's from friends:
DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R03-004
DVD-R:LEADDATA01

and commercial CD's for audio & video CD

only one failure note so far:
Won't read the Fuji DVD+RW when burned by PC using LG GSA-E10L w Ulead Movie Writer 3 SE and everything installed with default settings. Still working on that.

So far no problems, picture is clearer on the Panasonic then that from my Liteon 5005.

Has 8 hour capability. To date, have only used Fuji and Sony DVD's.
