The additional notes in the box states will read SVCD if written to industry standards although I cannot confirm this. I have only ticked functionality that I have used.
Bought mostly to record DVD's to take away to play in my Caravan in Spain. The quality is very good even on 4 hour recordings which satisfies 90% of my main purchase criteria. 8 hours not good enough for any use, not yet tried 6 hours.
The user interface appears to have been designed as an after thought. The small characters/icons on the LCD display are really difficult to see. Also wonder why functions such as eject and instant record facility aren't available on the remote. Should sell with a complementary telescope and pointer stick for those like me with bad back!
Could do with more record time intervals on the instant record facility. Also lack of facilities to add chapters on DVD R/RW means have to record off sky+ one film at a time.
Overall satisfied with my purchase

After blowing money on different capture cards I finally decided to go for a DVD recorder and with great luck I found a DMR-E10 on E-bay in brand new condition for US$275.00. I just received it yesterday and today I have already backed up one of my favorite SVHS opera recordings. The video quality is better than the actual output of the VCR because of the time base corrector. The colors are good and I have not experienced any noise on the chroma. I would recommend to everybody to stop wasting time and money buying inferior capture cards and go for the real thing.
My next thing will be an LG 4020 in my computer and TMPEG DVD author to create DVD-R disks. |

Thank you for posting info about TMPGEnc Author DVD. I am now abble to make dvd-r and dvd-rw using this program. It is so easy to use. I also tried Ulead VideoStudio but it was just too complicated and I got lost in it. TMPGEnc Author DVD is the best. One little drawback is that it takes about 2 full hours to process a full 4.7 gb dvd-ram. That's a bit too long. I wonder if it can do it faster. |

TMPGEnc DVD

It supports the VRO format used in the DVD-RAM recording. You can now record to a DVD-RAM copy it to your computer Hard drive and edit with this program and burn it back to a compatible DVD-R disk.
I havent tried it with a DVD+R but I cant tell you how incredible it feel to have a product that supports VRO files that are created by the Panasonic DVD recorders.
There is no loss of quality at all that I have experienced with this. This finally makes the ultimate tool for capturing home movies from VHS to a Fully compliant DVD format with the push of a button.

| This unit even though will only record Rams, is an excellent 5.1 DD Decoder, plays back DVD-R's, DVD+R's and DVD+RW's but I could never get mine to play back an SVCD. |

| I also got one of these with also a E20, better than the progressive scan is the 5.1 DD decoder built inside, its just great, the 5.1 is really good, better than your average sub $500 5.1 amp out there, plus it says in the instructions that it will not not play DVD-R or CD-R or CD-RW, WRONG! plays any and everyone I have stuck in it and having 2 recorders, the E10 and E20 makes a great way the edit back and forth specially if you use the 1hr mode, the E10 for $399 - got it as a 3 month no interest pay as you go from amazon.com and the E20 for $499, best 2 investments I have every made, don't even use video tape any more, I record anything and everything on these 2 machines, and try out the FR speed it alows you to fit the exact speed and bitrate on one Ram disc, need 90min. don't use the 2 hr speed use the FR speed and fit it on the perfect with a higher bitrate than the 2 hr speed also goes if all you need is say 3 hours also. |

I have found these for as low as 259.00 I paid 400.00 for mine and can say it has been a very good friend to me. For 259.00 you will not find a better Progressive Scan DVD Player. Much less a recorder to boot.
Yes you can say it doesnt do DVD-R but the cost of a descent DVD-R $3.00 is about the same as if you were to buy a double sided DVD-RAM. Around $4.00 per side. Optidisc works great you just have to format them in the DVD recorder which takes 20 seconds.
Whats a dollar when you consider the DVD-RAM disks are reusable so when you get bored of the movie you recorded you can overwrite it. If you buy generic DVD-R discs chances are you will burn discs that skip or pause like most people report with generic DVD-R discs. Is it worth it burning discs that dont play back to save a dollar? That defeats the purpose. Your looking for a VCR replacement and this is the way to go.
NOTE all the other recorders which can record to DVD-R still have the limitation of not being able to record in Dolby Digital. They all record in Stereo. So if the movie is something you must have in High Quality audio then I suggest you buy the movie. Paying extra for a recorder that does DVD-R will get you nothing more than the ability to burn to a DVD-R. Spend the Price difference buying a burner for your computer instead and you will be able to convert your DVD-RAM to DVD-R or any other type of DVD Format you want then providing the most compatibility and providing an excellent way of transferring video to your PC that you can edit any way you like and burn it back to any format you want.
Some other notes of the DVD Recorder is that it Has 3 Seperate S-Video inputs and 1 Cable Tuner built in which can be scheduled like your VCR. It also supports 2 sets of S-Video Outputs and 1 Set of Progressive Scan Outputs as well as 5-Channel audio outs along with the normal optical outputs. If I didnt own the Yahama V1300 receiver it would have more video switching abilities than most stereos.
The remote is easy to use and navigation is fairly simple. Creating menus for DVD's can be easily done but trust me you wont care to unless they are your own home movies.
Compatibility of the DVD-RAM discs and the DVD-R disc's if you bought the more expensive model everyone says are proprietary format. This is NOT true. If you associate the files created with your computers DVD software they will play back without a hitch. This is not difficult just double click on the largest file you find on the disc and tell it to use something like Power DVD to play back. Its that simple.
For another TIP you should read my posting of the Sony NS-715P dvd player which for some reason is compatible with the DVD format created by this panasonic player/recorder.
Very stylish with its gold tone casing. Definatly doesnt look like the new ones which look like toys. You almost have to give the unit an Intimidation factor.
2 hours record mode is excellent and even 4 hour looks good. 4 Hour is great for those items you want to see but dont require the enhanced visuals neccessary. I use that for most of the Home improvement shows I watch. 4 hour mode isnt going to knock your socks off but its as good as VCR quality in my book and will not deteriorate over time. 2 hour quality is good enough that I never bother with 1 hour mode.
This does what it says and can be found at a great price even if you pick one up just to be a progressive scan dvd player for 259.00 you cant be dissapointed. |
