My Lite-on 5002 works very well.
I bought a new TV at the same time, an important
note to bear in mind.
I exchange dvds with other guys, there was
only one that didn't play.

| the problems ive had with this unit......tells me their is no disk,i have to swich off annd unplug 3-4 times to get it to see a rw ....no prob with a r/once disk......live tv is jerkey,[cannot understand that]as it is analog not free view wich is usless anyway...timer dos not work with a r/w disk,,ie if you sett the timer ,the relsults is that at the point that it should record ,it swiches off insted....pip57 |

I just dont understand this situation with DVD recorders and the inability to make them reliable.
I have one Liteon 5002 which (so far) has given me no problems (OH I so hope I dont regret saying that!)
After my Goodmans died see the reviews elsewhere I went for another Liteon 5002. And this has lasted exactly 5 days!
I set it to records a film and got in to find it ominously flashing stopping. Only it wouldn't . Power off? nope! it was an unplug job.
Trying it today I have found that as soon as I try recording anything, the display says it is only the video output has freeze framed and about 3 seconds later, the audio goes.
Stop won't work.
Powering down is the only way and that ends up shagging the disk.
I did try to down load and check the firmware from Liteon's website (Apparently no one speaks english there looking at their diabolical attempts) but even following their instructions, the upgrade disk wasn't recognised. Now that could be part of the fault on the recorder or s shitty piece of software. Either way, tomorrow morning the manager of the local Currys may well be the first person wearing an anally fitted liteon 5002.
The story will continue I have no doubt!

Recording is excellent.(up 6 hours) depending on the quality. Seems to play all my backup dvds except 8.5dl. Starts ok, but hangs on the menus. It did on both that I tried. The DVDs worked ok on my Sony. I have sent an email to the company.
Region hack is really easy. See the hack list. There is a firmare update feature. Excellent picture using the component sockets into my Plasma. |

So far so good.
This is my 3rd brand of DVD recorder in about 18 months.
The first two, Grundig DVDR550 and Goodmans GDVD300R were total unreliable shite!
Infact this one, the Liteon came as part of a dissatisfaction settlement with Currys over the crap Grundig machine.
So far it has performed faultlessly and I entend to buy another to replace the Goodmans heap of poo!
As well as a plethora of functions common to most machines it has direct DV input. I can plug my DV camera in on the front, select that input and edit directly from the Liteon's remote - nice little feature.
Record quality seems very good although 90% of it's use is archiving very old VHS and BetaMax tapes so it's a bit subjective.
It also played back my US disks with no problem stright from the box.
It has a brilliant user interface and so far no gripes at all. I will see how things fare in 6 months time! |
