| This is a 2+ years update. The recorder still works fine. This is the best playback unit of any of my DVD players/recorders/burners/readers. Even plays back problematic discs on other players. The machine has been recording dozen or so programs weekly for the duration. Only failure has been when I forgot to change/erase a full disc. It's a very easy recorder to use compared to my Panasonic recorder. The 8 rating is due to lack of stereo tv tuner. |

| Would be a very good DVD recorder but for one MAJOR flaw: the image guality through SCART is terrible. Originally I thought it was a poor cable or fault with my cable box, then replaced cable with Freeview and a new SCART cable and got the same. This is a real shame as it played everything I tried. I used it to capture from my digital camcorder via the firewire socket and the quality was excellent. I would have given this device 9 out of 10 but for the image quality issue, a real shame, eventually I took the device back and luckily got a refund. |

At first I was in love with everything but the fan noise. Then I started noticing glitches. Then I noticed that previously burned DVDs were not being recognized and were being "prepared" like they were blank. I downloaded the update and upgraded the firmware. Then it would read the DVDs,,, for awhile. It gradually lost it's mind and forgot how to read its dvds again.
In a nutshell... I wind up refreshing the firmware, just to read the DVD's and finalize them. Also I used to be able to run the burned DVDs in my computer but after this latest update my computer has a problem with it.
I emailed Tech support and they think my machine has a problem and to take it back to the store... WHAT !!! YES I am sure it has a problem but it has gone on so long that the store does not even want to look at me now. The problem is that this is a POS and needs to be trashed.
Oh also... when I first "upgraded" the firmware I lost the nice fast commercial skip and now it has this lousy "soft fade" whenever you want to quickly skip commercials you have to wait for the soft fade. Thanks alot Lite-On. I asked them if they could maybe make a commercial skip that actually skipped commercials? (I had a VCR that could do it) and they responded to the email but not to the question. |

Pros: Cute!
-Plays .avi, .mpg, .dat files on DVD / CDs.
-Writes on cheapo GQ DVD-R, Memorex DVD-RW and the DVD-RW came with along with the unit. All the DVDs can be read on my lap top / DVD writer.
-Easy firware update. Do not know if it helped though!
- Good quality picture on 4 Hrs recording mode..it was as good as TV input signal
Cons-
-No volume control, annoying while paying the DVDs / TV
-No folder view option. You cannot selcet the movie u want to watch. You have to remember the folder name and keep pressing next folder (menu) button to come to the folder (Movie) you would like to watch! Will kill you if you are trying to play MP3s!!
- No DTS ( I haven't tried anyway)
- US verison (1105 HC) does not support DivX

| I've had it for 2 weeks now and still find it hard to record my DVD's Instruction manual isnt very clear on recording from 3 party sources like a VCR. When I have got it set up right it works very well. I've tried to get the firmware update to work but with no success. So far I pleased with it and the cost wasn't bad $ 184.01 CDN. |

Tuner - medium quality not as good as a TV, so for recording it is assumed you have a set-top box with audio/video outputs
inputs: firewire is nice. con: no s-video input.
file navigator -- none. you select video/music/picture mode and it plays them. no filename or folder displayed.
nice features: audio fades in/out as you skip tracks

so far so good.. we are having 1 problem though and are not sure if its just a security measure.
When taping from a DVD Player (movies for instance) we are not getting any sound from the copied version. Picture is perfect and clear. Does anyone know why this is happeneing. Please email me directly. Is this a way to secure the movie from being copied for sale? The connections seem to be ok. We are not copying for sale. |

I bought this model 1105HC from wallmart Canada for C$149.
This player converts PAL to NTSC. I feed the signal from my PAL DV cam using RCA cable and it converts that to NTSC and I can view that in my NTSC tv. I can record that as well in NTSC dvd. I didn’t try with DV firewire.
This player doesn’t play DIVX and it only plays XVID. The manual says that only + models play Divx.
Built in TV tuner doesn’t provide good qulity so I connect the TV out from my Toshiba to the video/audio in using rca cable and able to record tv shows

have had a nightmare with "cheap recorders" over the past few months, i have returned cyberhome dvr1600 and 2 daewoo dr2100, cyber suffered dreadful noise lines on the tuner, and the daewoo picture was awful and out of focus.
the lite-on was the last option as space was an issue, as was a sub £100 price tag, multi format recording and multi region as it is a back up machine for my bedroom.
region hack made without firmware update,no probs at all.
picture quality is top notch when compared to the daewoo and cyberhome and is comparable to my lg-4912.
definate recommendation , menu issues and feature not a prob as it is used as a second machine.
well worth 89.99gbp i paid.

OK, this is for the Liteon LVW-1105GCH
IMPORTANT UPGRADE!
Mine kept freezing up about once per 4 days. Had to unplug it to get it working again. I emailed liteon, and they said to upgrade the firmware from the following web site. I couldn't find this page from their liteon.com web site initially on my own.
Here is the correct page! (Probably good for most liteon machines)
http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/download.htm
I have a Macintosh, (They have info for PC users), and used Toast to burn an ISO 9660 data cd rom. (after unzipping the file of course)
Popped it in, and it worked! Now let's see if it still freezes up! |

I'm told this model is what Radio Shack sells as a Presidian 3222, and that's where I bought this. It's got all the familiar Lite-On features, such as the Easy Guider and the tuner picture that sometimes looks like a 2nd gen VHS copy.
One thing Presidian doesn't have is typical industry customer service. I called and was connected DIRECTLY to a rep who answered my questions quickly, courteously and knowledgably. Without seeming rushed at any time.
Generally I'm pleased with the things this Presidian 3222/Lite On 1105 actually does and the quality of the recordings at SP and HQ. One thing I appreciate specifically after returning a Cyberhome 1600: one touch recording that begins predictably and consistently after you press the button--on the Cyberhome you could have a delay of several seconds, or almost none.
What I'm not pleased with so far is my inability to edit files created by this machine. I've been able to rip files from DVD+R/W, DVD+R and DVD-R to my hard drive, but so far I haven't been able to get any of my edit programs to recognize or import them.
The Presidian rep confirmed that this could be difficult. The machine, she said, was not designed to edit files, and since it was a fairly basic model it was made to produce files that would be played back on most players as is, not edited. Unless someone found a workaround editing wouldn't be possible.
So I guess that compilation of Victoria's Secret commercials will just have to wait. |

My experiences is this recorder and the cybervision 1600.
What is much better on this recorder than the Cybervision is
1) the remote control is way better. The button placements makes sense, although I wish that it had a slow motion button, rather than drilling down to slow motion through the menus
2) It has accepted every type of disk that I have asked it to record on. It works on disks that the Cybervision rejected.
3) Cable Channel fine tuning. If you've got a cable channel that doesn't come in just right, this box gives you some ability to fine tune it, and sometimes improve reception.
4) If your making a DVD from an old video tape, you can press the edit button to put chapters where you want them to be.
5) generally looks and feels like quality.
I don't like about this that.
1) When you unplug it, it loses the clock.
2) The scheduling a show for recording, doesn't seem to have a delete feature.
3) less options than the Cybervision, no S-video, either in or out.
4) The control doesn't seem to have a volume feature, ect mute.
5) While the remote is generally good, and way superior to the terrible remote on the cyberhome model, I wish it had slow motion, and some other features just don't seem to be where they ought to be.
Summary,
I like that every signle disk that I have asked it to record, it did without a hickup.

(Note, this is for the Lite-on 1105ghc) A very nice recorder, and player. Fan sound is very low. (Much quiter than the APEX 9200! LOL). Plays about 85 pct of my divx files which is comparable to the Phillips 642. Easily made region free if that is a problem for you. VERY Cool to the touch when in operation.
Shuffle play on MP3s is poor, in that it shuffles through first 40 songs, then the next 40 etc..
Wishing it had at least a channel indicator on display - it has no digital display.. only colored lights..
Wishing it had dedicated buttons on remote for Slo mo, and Zoom...
BUT... for the Money, it is a very good deal!!! now to see how long it lasts with daily use. |

Regarding the tuner problems in an earlier post. Clearly, I'd want one that worked properly. There is, however, a workaround. I have two older models and the image from the onboard tuners are a bit washed out. I got around it by connecting a VCR to the rear composite inputs and use the VCR's tuner. The old model does better using the extrnal tuner. The tuner on my 1105 is a bit better than the 5005 but I connected a VCR to it, as well as the colors are a little brighter. I don't know if you will notice problems from the front input but the older models have a line noise present because of the LCD display. If you connect to the back, there is no problem. Given the problem described above, I'd exchange the unit.
Has anyone had problems reading MPEG4 files. Mine does not want to read all of them. It will read DIVX 4 and not much else. Is there a fix for this?

| Very nice player/recorder for $70. DVD +/-/r/rw recording. Records 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 hours plus 'Just Fit' option. Good recordings on 3 hours or less. 4 hours is useable, 6 hours maybe good enough for news. No video problems mentioned by previous reviewer. Very easy programming. Front panel composite input has autopause/autorecord depending on presence of signal. Played Divx 5, Xvid, svcd, vcd, ISO mpeg and jpeg discs without a glitch. Plays mp3 and wma on CD and DVD discs. Available region hack. Minor annoyances are audible fan, no svideo I/O. This unit really does everything. If it's reliable, I can really like this recorder. |

Just want to clarify that some (or all) of us are talking about the model LVW-1105HC (the ones bought from office max), not the one with + sign after it (as indicated in the player title of this web page).
Apparently, only LVW-1105HC is available in US as for now (http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/ce1105HC.htm). LVW-1105HC+ (http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/lvw_1105hc-plus/1105hc-plus_records_tv.htm) is DIVX-certified. Ours (without +) can play some Divx files (like v4.2, v5), but not Divx v3. |

| Great playing videos. Lousy DVD recorder. Recordings look blurry. Tuner cuts lower portion of CNN's ticker and image looks shaky. This is my second unit, exchanged the first yesterday. I am not gonna keep it. I wish there was a firmware fix for the tuner but I doubt it. |

| anybody have a macrovision bypass hack for this unit? The one at Mr. Wizard's site doesn't work for the d/lable firmware from the liteon site. It will probably be added to his program soon, but if anybody comes up with the hex edit hack first, that would be great. |

Pro's: Price, paid $69 AR at OfficeMax in store only. This player is definately a replacement for the Philips DVP642, but with additional record features that the Philips DVP642 lacks. Divx was my main concern, but it plays them all with excellent quality. This unit even played divx that my old Philips DVP642 would not. Unit is small compared to other dvd recorders. Good DVD-recorder features, you can set timer to record from digital tv, satelite, ect.. Unit is packaged with one dvd-rw.
Con's: Menu's could be easier to navigate.
Region free hack:
1) Download latest firmware at
http://liteonamericas.com/us/download_dvd.htm
2) Press "Setup" on remote.
3) Scroll down and highlight "Exit".
4) While "Exit" is highlighted enter 2,9,6, and 0 and press "Enter".
5) A hidden menu pops up and you can select your region.
6) Select "region free" |
