I have used this DVD recorder portion to burn my camcorder video ot DVD. When I run DVDShrink and I have multiple titles on the DVD, it complains about the dvd structure being messed up. It plays fine in the machine and other DVD players. I want to be able to grab clips from the original DVD and send them to family, so that is why I want to read the DVD into DVDShrink and use the reauthor mode to grab what I want from all the titles on the DVD.
I can repair the structure by running IFOedit. When I open VTS_01_0.IFO, I select the "VOBs Extra" button Fill in the destination folder to dump the processed VOB and IFO files. I then hit OKAY and Strip It on the next window that comes up. It dumps the corrected DVD files into the destination folder and I am now able to read it into DVDShrink and burn a new DVD as well.
I can now reauthor my camcorder video!!!!
Anyone know of a firmware update for this machine. I cannot find it listed on the website http://wwwliteonit.com/downloads |

Pros: Bought recorder combo day after thankgiving at a very good price of $160. Copied a few VHS tapes to DVD+R's with very good quality. Plays regular DVD's just fine with good picture quality. Remote is very easy to use and understand. I really do like this recorder and the Lite-On brand. It seems to play anything that I put in the machine (DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW) without a problem (except as noted below).
Cons: Only problem I've had is that sometimes when I record a TV shows onto DVD+RW (Maxell 8X) media the first few mins (1, 4, or even 8 mins) will be playing smooth then go choppy and then stop. I will have to totally turn off the recorder and turn back on to get it to respond. I will have to go forward past that "bad area" to see the rest of the show. I have seen this happen in all recording modes (HQ, SP, LP, etc.). However, some of the same media from the same pack has not shown any problems at all. I am going to try different media (maybe even DVD-RW) before I call Customer Service b/c I am sure they will ask me to do so. I have recorded about 50 TV shows and I have 3 discs that have problems. If I play the disc on my computer then I have same problem. Bad Media? Bad Burn? |

| I also purchased this DVD Recorder/VCR Combo unit on Black Friday of 2005 at Circuit City for $149.99. What an awesome system. I've thus far converted 2 VHS tapes to DVD as well as a mini-DV video by connecting my digital camcorder to the firewire port. I've also recorded from an 8mm camcorder through the A/V jacks in the front. I did have some trouble with recording through the A/V jacks because when there were blank spots on the tape between video segments for some reason the recorder considered the video input to be copyrighted material. I'll have to play a little more but otherwise I'm extremely happy with this unit. |

| I bought this VHS to DVD recorder single unit to copy my VHS tapes of my children, to DVD. It works great with one button copy. I got it the day after Thanksgiving sale in 2005. The DVDs I created play in my older DVD players. I am using both Maxell DVD-R/DVD+R, and Fujifilm DVD+RW. I give it a 9 because the manual has a few errors. The unit was made in Taiwan, which is good. |
