Hdd recording working fine. Disk drive does not read any disk - no disk. Were returned to the dealer several times, still the same. Would never recommend LG recorders to anybody, as every LG drive I had in the last 10 years were faulty, my home teater, dvd player, the hdd dvd recorder and dvd writer.

DVD-RAM?
Comments:
Allround DVD (player - hard disk recorder) for a convenient price.

TV recording functions excellent (chasing play etc, no issues, good quality). For playing DVD's I use my standalone player from Onkyo, so no comments on that.

DIVX/XVID: Plays all I threw at it (video: DIVX, XVID, DIV3, DX50; audio: MP3, AC3) very well (within resolution 720*576). Recognizes srt, sub (micro DVD format). With those, the subtitles display under the movie (in the black bars). The player accepts xsubs (within the DIVX container) for display of subs ín the movie (fullscreen video), but it takes a lot of time (sweat, blood and tears) to get the orientation of the subs correctly (used avisub and sub2divx for that matter). For some NTSC movies it didn't work at all (shaky subs).

MP3: Plays it all from CD, DVD and Harddisk. One flaw: Songs are sorted by date on the harddisk, not by name. That makes it a lot harder to search your MP3 collection (I hope for a firmware update to fix that; doubt it though). On the other hand, with 250 GB, this one can archive lots of songs!!

Negative points for usb functionality (very slow, sometimes doesn't work at all) and ventilation (bit noisy). Other than that (and the arrangement of MP3's) this machine is very enjoyable for it's budget price!

Few DVD-RAM
Comments:
I bought this player as I previously owned a Panasonic and had DVD-RAM discs and so wanted compatibility. Initially, I was really pleased with it but have started to notice a few bugs. The commonly reported 'no sound' or loss of sound issue which seems to be resolved by the age old IT solution of switching off & on again. It plays DVD-RAM formats but not without issue, hesitates jumps, freezes etc. Recordings that were fine on the previous Panasonic recorder. Finally, and most annoying is that it doesn't play some 'shop bought' or rented DVD's, it just refuses to recognise them, giving an error message of 'no disc'. This is really annoying and I have tried to talk to LG customer services about it and the first person spoke to seemed clueless and then transferred me and I was on hold for 14 minutes before giving up. I will try again.

In summary, this has potential to be a great DVD recorder what with the immense 250GB HDD etc. but it just fails to deliver on the promise.
