Well it worked fine but it started displaying "no disc" after 1-2 years. I bought it for my mom as a Christmas gift so I've not used it myself. I know my mom, nobody could had taken care of it better than her. The warranty is only for one year and apparently it costs a lot to repair, I've read about 500$ on forums. I tried to clean it with air spray and cleaning disc but no luck. I'll try to open it since someone reported he was able to make it work again by opening the device and by cleaning it. I'll see but well really disappointed by this really POOR reliability.

Gord, my unit was fixed in Ottawa at "Hagopian Television Centre Limited", since they service LG. It was still under the one year warrantly so no cost to me. They simply replaced the entire drive section. I'm guessing that was the easy-fix for them.

Anyway, so far, so good with the DVD Recorder.
I'm not 100% convinced that the problem won't recur, but time will tell.

Hopefully yours is still under warranty.
Good luck.

Gord _Vancouver Canada ,as stated by Jim July07.

My LRA-750 is now doing exactly what he has experienced.I couldn't state it or add,Ihave the same problems just within the last 2Months.
I have more than a FEW DVD+R's recorded on it it won't recognize. I get Msgs NO DISC or UNKNWOWN DISC and the machine spits it out ,with please check ,won't recognize new empty Disc's.

This past weekend I recorded a close to 2Hr sport event but the Finalize failed ,now the machine say there are no recorded titles on the Disc but
when DIsplay is entered it knows only 9MINS are left on the Disc. So it knows it has something on it but can't play it back ,doesn't make sense,VERY frustrating.

Until then I thought it was a Great Unit / Bargin ,I am however wondering
if this is maybe a Heat Issue. It gets to hot or something??

I purchased this unit at FutureShop in Ontario Canada in December 2006. I recently contacted LG Canada because the unit had problems and they directed me to a local electronics repair shop. I just got the unit back after they replaced the drive----I have not tried it but I and perhaps comment later.

Below is a description of the problems I enountered....it is the text I sent LG.

I am curious if anybody else has had similar problems? Please comment if so; thanks.

NOTE: if the problem I have gets fixed correctly, my rating for this unit would be much higher,,,i.e., 9/10. But for now, I say 5/10.

Reason for Return:

The unit (LRA-750) began working fine in the beginning, with all features working and success at burning and playback, on all media types. However as the months went on, occasionally, the unit would be unable to recognize, or read, a DVD that it previously burned. After inserting the DVD, the unit would either freeze-up or the DVD would be ejected out. I noticed this happening on DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW, and both on DVDs that were finalized (closed), and ones that were un-finalized (left-open). I.e., this problem would happen on DVDs that the unit previously use to recognize and burn/playback successfully. It now even
has problems recognizing the supplied DVD-RW that came with the unit, even though it use to read/write to it without issues—now, after inserting, it just spits out the disc after failing to read/recognize it. This problem has been happening more and more frequent to the point where I'm convinced there is a problem. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a pattern or always reproduce the situation. I suspect that either the burning process is flawed (although it indicates successful burning), or that the unit has playback and disc recognition problems. I'd guess that the later. Or maybe the laser is slightly out of alignment or dirt on the laser?….although I doubt those as well since when it finally does recognize a DVD, it’ll playback or record perfectly.

I noticed FutureShop stopped carrying the LRA-750 soon after it started, even though it was superior to competitors with features and price. I could be wrong
about this but I’m guessing that LG noticed a common problem with all LRA-750s and stopped shipping them? Or they encountered a supply problem on a certain part, or they replaced it with the LRA-850, which they probably make more margin on the sales, since it has less features.

_
Jim.

Further to my rating from Dec.15, I'm fed up with this DVD Recorder, It fails to record anything 7 out of 10 tries if not more. I tried to return it today, but FS wouldn't accept it back, so they're sending it out to LG for repair, lets see if anything gets fixed or not.

I bought this from Future Shop for $129 CDN this last weekend. I have found the menu fairly user friendly but don't know why they can't be like Benq and simply invite you to enter a start time and a program length - it's not easy at 11 at night trying to figure out when a program ends that is 2 and a half hours long - just say it is that and move on. (I do like the AT automatic quality selector however - saves trying to remember which is XT(XP?)SP,LP and EP).

Does anyone share my disappointment with the crappy picture however, or did I buy a dud? Talk about washed out! I do an A,B test by channel with my Sharp TV - no comparison, it is not only pale looking but also lacks definition even in HQ (XT? or is it XP?) mode. I think it will go back to the store. My Benq and Daytek recorders are both picture perfect. Is the issue with the tuner (Conexxant or what brand?) or something in the pass through? Let me know what others are experiencing - DVD recording can be so much better than this.

I just bought this today for $129 at Future Shop.
I managed to hook it up to my Expressvu Box & ancient TV but I wish I could have the satellite box control the dvd recorder instead of having to set 1 timer on the stb & another on the DVD Recorder.
Anybody know a code that would allow that to work??

The recorder is currently at 129 Can$. That seems to me as a very good bargain.

Since I believe that the previous rating made was too harsh considering that the only complain was about the Xvid/Divx features of the device.

Everything else is working perfectly. The picture quality is great, the user interface is smooth and very friendly (it only took about 5 minutes to make my wife comfortable with it; wich is good indication of the friendliness of the interface). Also, living in Quebec City, I configured the recorder in the French langage expecting only a fair translation. I was very pleased about the quality of the translation (a problem I come accross all too often).

Only one small negative comment: the device has more depth than the other component that was in the shelves. But it has some controls on top that prevented me to put it under the other component. So, I'm stuck with an inverted pyramid.

Overall, I give it a 8/10 (specially considering it's price: great bang for the buck)

Regards

the new LG model 750/760 (I try both) will work fine for the majority of user but for xvid/divx user, the dvd recorder is more limited than the old LG 531 model available last years, which is now discontinuated :-(

1) the "zoom" function does not work with xvid/divx. and suck with normal dvd (too limited zoom i.e. the only available option are 200% and 400% but no zoom to fit a 16/9 movie into a 4/3 screen or vice versa.)

2) for xvid/divx with 2 audio track, the function fast forward/backward does not work... so if you press stop by mistake, you need to re-start back from the beginning.... but the function work fine if you have only one audio track.

3) also the xvid/divx image are stepping a little bite when comparated with the old LG 531 model however it is not very obvious and you can forget about it easily.

4) in fast forward, the movie is not show in accelarated but look like 2 sec photo snapshoot, which personally I do not like.

for the LG 531 I give 10/10 but for the new 750/760 model I give not more than 5/10

if fact I keep it 2 week and I return it to the store for refund.
