funny thing, i found my jvc dr-mv1 in my basement, forgot i put it down there & forgot why i put it down there. until i plugged it in and got the loading error! what a piece of crap. and after looking up the error i came across all of you guys witht the same problem, unblieveable. i cant believe they let this thing out to the public, and before the error, tapes would get stuck in it and you'd have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the tapes out. well i feel sorry for all of us that bought it, and feel sorry for jvc, wont be buying anymore of their products!

I bought JVC DR-MV1SUJ I had it sent for the famous free repair in 07. Now broke with famous "loading" error again, not surprising to me I expected it to break down it's the American tradition of importing of defective Japanese products today. I called JVC this evening and JVC customer service rep responded by saying "Uh yea it's your problem to fix now and you will have to pay for repair this time. I said no thanks and no more JVC's for me as I shelled out 500.00 for this product. Simply put it is junk and I will respond by letting everyone I know to stay well away from anything associated with the JVC company and "Uh yea" Toyota's to!

Wife bought one of there when they first came out - $550.00 us
Player lasted 13 months.
Towards the end of that time player started locking up - displaying "Loading....".
Finaly player would not power up.
Had to sent it to California to be repaired (our expense).
Came back as "repaired power supply".
Lasted less than a month - I opened it up and found a blow cap. (probably same one they replaced). I replaced the cap wih a higher rated one - lasted 2 days.
The following weekend I found out that the player would not stop a 7.62x39 round (or 29 others). Shoveled remains into garbage can.

Will never purchase another JVC product again.

This is my second one of these. The first quit recognizing blank disks, and would not record. After returning it to the area service - to no avail - and after almost two years of incredible frustration, I finally reached the service office in Texas. The guy there recognized the problem, and I returned it to him in exchange for a refurbished unit. This has (touch wood!) worked fine since then, now for almost two years, and I routinely record to DVD-R from my satellite TiVo receiver. This is a great setup for time shifting and preserving certain programming. I agree that the manual is almost unintelligible. So, in summary, this unit works very well for this function, but my initial experience to get to the situation of having a functioning unit will keep me away from JVC for ever.

Well it worked ok for 18 months - although there's an annoying blip while wathing TV every hour when the cooling fan automatically comes on, whether the unit is on or not. BUT, it has now gone into "LOADING" flashing mode, will not work at all. After reading comments on this site I faxed JVC Ireland asking for a repair, and despite being out of warranty they agreed to take it and upgrade the firmware without charge to me, as the bug has been well documented at this stage. Pity I didn't know this stuff before buying, I might have thought twice.

VCR play works. DVD play works. DVD-RW (Fujifilm 4.7GB, up to 2x, Version 1.1) record works.

BUT DVD-R (Sony DMR47, 4.7GB, 1x-8x, Version 2.0/8x-Speed, Revision 3.0) RECORD DOES NOT WORK.

This is my second "refurbished" DR-MV1S (stupid me!). The first one lasted about six months before the "LOADING" problem killed it, but it was covered for replacement under an extended warranty (at least the warranty worked).

JVC offered to let me ship this one back to their factory center in Pinebrook, New Jersey, at their expense, BUT that means I'll again be without a DVD recorder.

I'll never buy another JVC product (no matter how well rated by Consumer Reports)!

Before getting the LOADING problem, my unit corrupted 2 DVD-RAM disks too. Took it back to Costco and got a full refund. I've now got a Panasonic DMR-ES20D. Much better, but without the VCR. I've found the Panasonic to be slicker, quicker, quieter and more reliable. Plus it's got both a DVB and PAL tuner. I'll never buy JVC again!

I had the same "loading" error problem within the first few uses and sent the unit back to JVC at my expense as well, although it did sit for months before I could get around to retuning it. The paperwork that came back said they replaced the power supply. The unit has been working good since but seems to get very warm. The unit probably doesn't have a cooling fan. I also have a Cyberhome unit and no cooling fans leads to their power supplies failing as well.

This is my second one of these. The first start the famous blinking loading and had to be reset. I was lucky enought to still be withing the store's warranty. The store replaced it and said the new one sould be okay. It wasn't. It started doing the same thing. It is now at the service center, at my cost of course and has been there for over 2 weeks and don't know when I will get it back. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL IN NTSC STANDARD. The PAL standard does not have this problem. I will never buy another JVC product again. They should step up and allows the consumer to return the unit to the store for replacment or refund.

I bought this as a standalone unit to copy vhs to dvd. It worked great for a few weeks, and then the vhs loading mechanism quit working. I returned it, and it was fixed and the firmware upgraded withing 4 weeks. So far it is working fine now. When it works, it works very well. Pretty easy to copy vhs to dvd. Also have used to copy vhs into pc, edit, and then back to dvd.

Manual was rubbish, but only after 3 weeks the video receiver died and it went back to JVC. 3 months later they still hadn't fixed it so the shop I bought it from got permission from JVC to give me a new one. They didn't have one! so They gave me a Toshiba D-VR3SB instead. Same spec but easier to use. More logical when using the controller. However, this player has a habit of dropping the output to the TV when viewing -RAM disks whilst recording at the same time.

Well, it's now been six weeks since I put my DVD with the dreaded LOADING problem into JVC UK to get fixed....and I'm still waiting. Getting really annoyed now.

And to cap it off, I finally received a comment back from JVC - again six weeks after my original email!! Now that's a great response time - not!

Here it is:

Sorry for the delay in answering your email.

Unfortunately the difficulty with your JVC DRMV1 DVD/VHS combi product is consistent with a software malfunction and the unit should be returned to the retailer in order that it can be examined and this problem rectified.

JVC (U.K.) Ltd
Customer Service Dept.

So in conclusion - I would stay well clear of this unit if you are in the uk! My opinion only!

Beta Version????

Where does that come from??

Why should we accept a Beta version??? Beta versions by their nature are for test - not retail!!!

And certainly there was nothing on my box or instructions or note from the salesman that this is a beta version!!

Yes I agree it is generally a good dvd, and I enjoyed it until this loading error. But I cannot accept that they are retailing a Beta version. If so, I should have been warned!

I purchased this product in August 2004 for my birthday excellent product until a programming flaw came into play the "Loading" flash everyone talks about contacted JVC who had me send it to a JVC repair site and it was repaired and returned only out cost of shipping and insurance. People have to rember this is a beta version so it will have some bugs and one of them was in software so it's been rewritten but for features how can you go wrong with dual tuners and dubbing from VHS to DVD?

Hi again. Rang JVC helpline UK, and they were aware of the "LOADING" problem straight away and said to take it back to the retailer. Took my unit back to the major electrical store in London and they also were very aware of the problem - "We have received a lot of these units back," was the response.

Sounds to me like a major issue that is affecting a lot of this model of recorders.

So now I have been advised to wait for at least three weeks for it to go back to the factory and come back. Then I have to journey an hour back into central london to pick up!

I would be cautious of buying this unit until this problem is fixed. I assume JVC are all over it now, as they are usually very good at quality control. That said, I did notice a couple of pallet loads of the DVD recorders on sale in the discounter COSTCO last week....

I am also suffering from the dreaded "LOAD ING" bug.
I am thoroughly sick of this useless piece of equipment. It has now been returned to the supplier for rectification but I am at a loss to understand why JVC failed to alert people to the problem.

I suppose I will get my Recorder back eventually but I could have done without the hassle and I will be very wary of buying anything from JVC in the future.

Hi. RE: LOADING Problem

Further to my email yesterday, it looks like the problem is recognised by JVC US (yet no mention on the Uk site!)

See this link:

http://www.jvc.com/support/support.jsp?pageID=1&item=24#9364

JVC says on the website it needs to go back for a repair - for free. So back to the factory for me - a pain really, but if it fixes it I will be happy.

I also have the dreaded "LOADING" error.

It has worked fine for two months - a great unit allround.

However, now for no reason, it goes into a "LOADING" mode - on and off for no reason. Can last for hours when the unit is useless.

And the manual is rubbish - there is no wording about this problem in the manual or on the jvc website.

What was an excellent experience is now soured, and I will be taking the unit back for fixing or a refund if no-one knows what the issue is.

Have an email in with JVC UK - so far a week with no response. If I get a response, will reply on here.

Anyon ehave a fix, please email me. jamesinmel@hotmail.com

The manual is VERY CONFUSING! The features on this VHS-DVD Recorder combo are excellent for the price however. One problem is that they try to cram many features into this unit and try to simplify the instructions so that you can do basic 1-2-3 step recordings. But many who purchase this unit will want to do some editing or modifications for recording and they won't know how. It takes practice to figure out how to adjust the automatic video parsing, adjust the naming of the video files, pause live recordings and then start recording again (very tough with direct dubbing from the VHS).

Once you get past these trials this machine will live up to your expectations of making excellent quality recordings from VHS, video cameras or TV (Satellite too!). The addition of Firewire is a plus and I have been able to record on Memorex 4X and 8X DVD-R recording media with no problems. I have tried the TDK DVD-RW 4X media and Memorex DVD-RAM 2X media with no problems either.

The auto TV channel, clock time and satellite setup is very convenient (but for satellite control you'll need to order the free IR Module that connects this DVD recorder.). So far no problems with loading and using VHS tape controls either as some have mentioned.
