I've been looking to see if the DVR07 has any kind of built-in test procedure. If I hold the power-on button for 10 seconds, the unit goes into a SAFE mode as indicated on the display. Does anyone know what this means? Can anyone provide data on built-in test functions?

| I've had this unit for nearly a year now, and it functions, but the tuner provides a degraded picture & audio, and the auto clock is erratic. Other than that, it does what it's told, although I can't seem to get the recordings to play on any other system. |

Just a short followup to my previous comment...
I discovered that the PBS station that used to broadcast a good time signal
isn't doing so now, and the one remaining channel with a time signal is
what caused the +5h wrong time. It was not a problem with the DVR07's
Auto-clock.
Kudos to the HH Gregg in Pineville, NC: they went way
out of their way to be helpful.

DVR07 bought 12/2006. Its DVD drive is on the left, not in the center as
(now) shown at videohelp. The specs say (but I haven't tested them all):
* dual media recording (DVD +/- R/W, but not DL and not DVD-RAM);
* plays audio on CD/R/W/ROM, JPEG on CD-R/W, and DVDs;
* plays MP3 on CD/R/W/ROM if 64kbps or higher; can show folders.
Pro:
1) It supports DTS output via the (optical and coax) digital outputs.
2) Its SEP mode puts 8 hours on a DVD.
3) 20 watts max. and no fan.
Con:
1) Daewoo tech. support does not want customers upgrading firmware.
[However, the unit supposedly does support the usual method (by
inserting a CD-R with the new firmware).]
2) AutoClock mode set time 5 - 5.5 hours fast. Daewoo says the unit is
defective. I don't have the replacement unit yet.

first off no VCD? thats alarming to me. i hope this doesn't mean many mfr's will follow suit.
Picked up this dvd recorder at frys for 69 bucks. startup time is a bit slow but setup, timer menu etc were very easy. My favorite thing is the play menu, highlighting each title will roll the material in the title with sound. maybe all players do that. nice feature.
main media used for recording was TDK +RW also used generic GQ +R(sony rebadge according to DVDidentifier) from frys and
2 hour mode had a nice picture and sound but 4,6 and 8hr the sync was off terribly.
took it back mainly because of the sync and vcd complaints. No firmware fix available ontheir website either.
