| When I first purchase this item it worked great, using maxell 8X dvd-4 discs. Now, using dvd+r 16X it recorded for a couple of time and then, I can't get it to record without getting an error message when I go back to view it and when I insert a new dvd+r it only formats 50% of it. |

| HI i bought this Cyberhome DVR 1200 DVD Recorder & Player with Progressive Scan and WOW It works great It formats all diffent typs of DVD & CD disk. i can record from the tv , vcr , and another dvd player. It works just fine. It took me awhile to figure out how to hook every thing up right but after we did it works fine. The last dvd recorder i had it would only record on 2.4x disk Now with this Cyberhome i can record on any disk. If you put a disk in it will ask you if you like to format it so you can record on it. I have try all kinds of dvd disk and so far it has work on evey disk i put in it. Off of my vcr i can put up to 3 movies on it. I got my Cyberhome of ebay for $20 dollars and 8.99 shipping. I can't beat that at any store. |

Cyberhome DVR 1200 No disc problem when playing any media.
After playing around for a while, I switched 'Memory' to off and Parental level to Kid safe. It now recognizes DVD's. |

| It seems to like the 4x DVD blanks. I believe that is the problem most users are having. It doesn't work with any 8x disks. If using 4x blanks and it is not on for a long time, it works fine. For the heat issue, make sure there is enough air circulation. My cabinet has no doors, so it seems to be OK. |

I bought this unit during Thanksgiving sale of 2005. And still using it until now. My only problem is the remote. It uses too much batteries and they are not cheap. The battery that came originally with the remote lasted 9 months. I used this unit to record my daily soap operas. The sound is okey. My satellite cable is hook up and I am using it as a regular VCR. Once in a while I get bad disk or it keeps on saying no disk. And sometimes when you finalize a disk it ruins it.

| Hi Peter..I don't have this model, but have the 1600. I had the same problem with the sound, but after I downloaded and applied the firmware update from the Cyberhome homepage, it was fixed, and the sound is now perfect. This may be the same for your model, it's probably worth a try. |

| This is a good player and would be a good recorder if it did not have the serious problem with the sound. Sound pitch varies like a tape that has stretched or is slipping. This make it unusable as a recorder. Picture quality of the recordings is excellent. |

| Got this coaster toaster for Christmas. Out of sync sound, slower and slower. music sounded like a bad LP with someone dragging the turntable. Skipped during recordings, bad indexing between chapters, no recovery possible. Media used was Memorex. Did not re-invest in other brands, what's the use with this boat anchor. Bad support. No support. Vague support, lack of support. This unit, if covered by CyberHome at 100% customer satisfaction would bankrupt them. It is a bad bad buy. No fix possible no matter the firmware upgrades. It's a dud. |

bought 1, worked for 2 months. one day, after doing a "sci-fi marathon" recording, I removed the disc, and had smokey film over the media. was not able to play the recorded media, never recorded again.. Musta let out the magic smoke that makes the unit work. Called CH, they stated I used the wrong media brand.. was memorex dvd+r. bought $40 spindle of fuji dvd+r's per CH, burned 1 successfully on new dvr. failed on 2nd + 3rd. re-trying the memorex, since I had originally bought 2 spindles worth of that media.
the unit is NOT in an entertainment center, in fact the ambient house temp is 60 degrees. (winter)
CH tech support said do NOT upgrade the firmware.. Why not? |

I found that after flashing with rev 610 FIRMWARE
I also lost the ability to play VCD disks.
It still played SVCD disk OK.
Any VCD I put in the DVR results in "NO DISK".
These VCD's worked prior to FIRMWARE rev 610.
I found a "workaround" for the VCD problem...(you have to burn a new CD)
I copied the MPEG file from the VCD CD to a Data CD.
Then the DVR would play the MPEG file on the Data CD OK.
(I had to rename the MPEG file extension from .DAT to .MPG)
The Manual states that the 1200MU is supposed to play VCD disks.
If you want to play VCD's - beware of rev 610 |

I found I could make my DVR1200 with the 610 Rev F/W play
DivX files by changing the AVI's "4CC" code from Divx to XVID prior to buring it on a CD
using "AVI FourCC Changer" from
http://www.inmatrix.com/files/avic_download.shtml
I also found out that Cyberhome is marketing a DVR1600D model in Europe that is advertised to play DivX's
My guess is that the 610 Rev F/W killed DivX support so that Cyberhome would not have to pay licensing fees to divX (as they will have to with the new unit in Europe that advertises that it plays DivX) |

However...
I lost the ability to play DivX 4,5 AND 6.
I can still play XVID files.

note:
I run a small fan to cool this unit down when I record family videos. This DVR doesn't work reliably when warm. |

| I figured I would take a chance on this piece since it was only 80 bucks. I'll tell ya it's well worth that! I can't believe other people don't like this unit. Maybe I got a good one I don't know but everything I threw at it it played! Also it formatted and recorded on DVD-R's also. I've been in this business of audio/video stuff for years and this unit kicks serious ass! Anyone who downplays this recorder/player must have never bought crap in the past like I did. Philips and Sony are the inovaters of CDR/DVDR. I owned all the expensive players from them and the sucked bad!!! I buy an 80 dollar recorder/player and it blows my expensive shit away! CyberHome I give an A Plus!!! |

Total waste! tv tuner quality terrible makes digital cable look like your watching tv using just rabbit ears. recorded one disc from tv and camcorder, very bad quality. buy it only if you're looking for a shiny coaster maker.
I only had this machine a few hours before I took it back and got a better recorder.
There is a lesson here...you get what you pay for. |

This recorder is total junk. To be fair, I did get a few good burns on DVD+R media, but after feeding it several brands of DVD+RW, including those suggested by CH tech support, I must conclude that this thing has severe DVD+RW media compatibility problems. About 50% of the time a DVD+RW would become unusable after recording one or two titles. The unit would report 'No Disk' when loading one of these and they could not be erased or reformatted. A few burns to DVD+R were hosed when the thing would inexplicably pause itself for a few seconds while recording.
There seems to be a heat management issue that I suspect is a contributor to some of this recorders problems. On a collection of MP3's on DVD+RW, track changes get progressively slower the longer the unit is on and eventualy it developes skipping and stuttering as well.
I have set DivX and XviD compatibility to 'NO' on this recorder because the firmware update 610 I received from Cyberhome tech support disables it. The original firmware 525 actually had very good DivX and XviD support. To add insult to injury the 610 update didn't help with my DVD+RW problems anyhow. Mine went back to Wally World tonight. Good riddance. |

| Bought this DVR to replace my Daewoo player. love everything about it. I wanted a DVD player I could play as many regions as possible in either Pal or NTSC since I have Russian movies that were not playable on the other players (Sony, Daewoo). I made it region free. I hope it lasts more than a year (about the time my daewoo died). I only wished that it would go directly to tuner like a vcr does when turned. The remote isn't ergonomically friendly either. I bought the model 1600 as well from Best Buy for $10 more. Both are identical in their performance. I did download and install the latest firmware update from the Cyberhome website to be certain it was up to date. http://www.cyberhome.com/1208/downloads.asp?Product=1200 |

I've checked the region hack on the default BIOS and it worked. Cyberhome has 2 BIOS updates on their website but haven't tried them yet.
I have tried Maxell DVD+Rs and Imation DVD+RWs with equal success. My Apex player can read the +RWs the DVR 1200 makes but not the +Rs.
Only annoying thing I want fixed is the fluctuating pitch of recorded audio, like it gets the sound and then makes up what it wants to after that. Volume is OK, but not when listening to music during a recording. A shame that it was promising when I bought it. Don't know if the BIOS update for the front end and the back end should be used because it could fix the audio problem but might take away the region hack. |

| The CyberHome CH-DVR 1200 seems to do everything that it's manual says it will do and more. I haven't even had to try to use DVD+R discs because it has worked fine with Memorex DVD-R 4x. Not one bad burn or rejection yet. After finalization the discs have played fine in every dvd player I have tried from Apex to the PS2. For the $70 I payed for it, it was worth every penny. I would recommend it to the regular Joe who doesn't have the $500 to buy a high end unit. It doesn't overheat, it's record quality even on the extended records are good, and everything so far has been perfectly in sync. |

| On a lark, I placed a TDK DVD-R in the recorder. It formatted the disk with no problem. I recorded from three different cable channels to test. I just finalized the disk and am now watching it with no problems. I saw in the manual that it only states DVD+R/RW disks, but after reading the forum I decided to try a DVD-R. I played a FujiFilm SVCD CD-R disk with no problem either. Setup is not as intuitive as it should be, but not impossible. Heck, it even remembered where my disk was even after turning it off!! I am going to try a DVD+RW shortly. |

| Just got this little unit and with my first recording of a tv show to a DVD+RW it worked great! However, I started to try to record old camcorder videos to DVD+R disks that I bought and it doesnt recognize the Imation DVD+R disks (kinda strange since the DVD+RW disks i used were also Imation) Now I have 30 Imation DVD+R disks that I cannot use, Guess I should have read some of the comments on this site before I bought the media for this recorder. |
