| So far I have had pretty good luck with this DVD recorder. With the exception of trying to change the clock it won't save. And only one disc I have burned didn't work. Burned it on a TDK DVD+R. Does anyone know if these are not compatible with this recorder. This is the first time I have tried to use TDK on this recorder. My last recorder they worked fine on. Is there a list of discs anywhere that I could find? |

| Do not Buy this junk!! Harsh? OK WHY? The main reason is the damn 40 second freeze (that's right every 40 secs.)when used on other machines except a few real crappy players.Plus it's best to keep it unplugged or it may burn!! OY Vay What Junk Dont fall for any BS about this alleged machine!! |

I got this machine at Meijer in Michigan for $70+tax during xmas sale.
Used it 9 months now, and sure it has it's minor flaws(clock runs fast for one), but I have used this machine daily for hours every day, and it's still cranking out the decent recordings for me. I love it. My work horse! LOL
makes great copies from Tape, and other unprotected dvds via the s-video cable.
Now if APEX would only address some of the problems with a firmare update! |

With regards to "digital display characters" problems noted in another post, this might only be the limitation of the 7-segment LED display that they use. For example,
"V" in video is a backwards 4...
The unit works quite well for $100, though the long delays until opening the disk tray, formatting, finalizing, and traversing of menus to finalize are among the small annoyances - may be the norm - I don't know as this is my first unit.
Most troubled by heat and grounding problem. Even in Off mode, bottom of unit gets very warm, arguable hot for something that's turned off. Also, while holding the unit from below and leaning against metal, noticed tingle. Checked with DVM and found weak 57 VAC on chassis of unit. Might explain the warmth if there's a wiring problem under the hood.

The recorder is not very aesthetic in its built but does pack quite a few things for its price.
It has the std composite,co-ax,svideo and progressive scan but also has front svideo, svideo and firewire input ports.
The on screen menus are just as cheesy and sloppy as the previous versions but just as functional nevertheless..
I had bought it in the USA for use in India.. The biggest drawback from my point of view is the tv tuner component. We have PAL input and the tuner just fails to recongnise all the channels.. It recongnised abt 16 of the 200 odd channels that we get. Adn that too with snowy black n white picture and no sound.
IT JUST DOES NOT TUNE PAL SIGNALS!!!!
Mind you I asked the Apex support guys before I bought the unit whether the unit will identify and tune PAL signals....
Tried routing the output through my Yamaha receiver(bought in USA) to my TV both of which recongnise NTSC (3.x and 4.x), but no luck...
I primarily bought it to record TV programmes that I miss while working during the day.. So it was quite a disappointment for me..
Other than that the player does all the std stuff like vcd,svcd,dvd,mp3,cd audio etc pretty well..
Moral of the story : Stay away from it if you belong to non-NTSC world.Otherwise, falling price makes it look good in the NTSC world.

I purchase the Apex DRX-9200 as a Chrsitmas gift for myself from a local discount store for $149.00 minus a $50.00 rebate. After reading the 3 manuals I connected the unit to my HDTV big screen and applied an input from my C band Satellite dish. I noticed some of the digital display characters on the DRX-9200 were distorted and almost unreadable. The unit seemed to record and playback the 15 minute satellite program ok to the included blank DVD-RW. But the disk would not load on either of my 2 Apex DVD players. The unit did play a rented DVD movie with good feedback quality comparable to my older $300.00 Toshiba DVD player.
I returned the unit to the store for a replacement that I hoped would not have the compatability problems and a working display. The replacement unit was practically Dead on Arrival (DOD). The remote would not work even after trying a new set of batteries and the Display segments were not working correctly. I boxed the unit up and returned it to the store for credit to my charge card.
I had purchased a more expensive Maganvox recorder for my daughter for Christmas and so far I have not heard any complaints about its operation. |

Purchased Apex DRX-9200 for $135 from Meijer (in a Chicago suburb) on 10/23. Super price! Second generation DVD Recorder!
Picture quality was compared to a Sony GRX7 and a LiteOn LVW-5001. While the DRX9200 has many desirable features/ technologies (eg, insert/delete chapter points on a DVD+RW, 3 hour record mode, DiMeNsion 8602 processor, etc.), my sole criteria for keeping the unit came down to picture quality.
I was disappointed with washed out colors, excessive contrast, etc. in recording from Comcast cable channels, in 4 hour mode. It is hard to believe this second generation LSI processor performed so poorly.
I could not determine if unit was malfunctioning or unit was poorly engineered.
And as many of you know, getting through to APEX customer support is nearly impossible - so I could not get a response from the Mfr.
The warranty is 90 days labor, 1 yr parts. Considering the power supply problems with earlier Apex models, this short warranty was not reassuring.
I decided the unit wasn't worth the $135 paid - and reluctantly returned it to Meijer 24 hours later.
I would rate the above three units -- on picture quality -- (in 4 hour record mode) as follows:
1. Sony GRX7 - 8/10 ($299)
2. LiteOn 5001 - 7/10 ($199)
3. Apex DRX9200 - 6/10($135 special; regularly $179)
