The machine seems slow to respond to remote handset or sometimes to ignore it, needing 2 presses on a key to perform the action. Otherwise all OK - plenty of supported playback formats on all media. To the earlier question about connecting to a sat receiver - I made this work by wiring the sat box to the RDVD (as per the manual) by coax and SCART, switching the sat box on, and then tuning the RDVD to the output of the sat box as programme 6 (in addition to the 5 terrestrial channels it also picked up.

For the user having problems playing the recorded DVDs on another player. You will have to finalise the DVD in the Alba first. Read the manual, it explains this clearly.

I have tried recording with a sony dvd-r disc 4.7gb/120mins but keeps saying wrong format any suggestions

i was just wondering if anyone has tried to connect the alba rdvd1001x1 up to a free to air satellite reciever.i have attempted this but thus failed so far in my attempts to record off a satellite signal.

This is an Alba RDVD1001X1. It seems to work well when recording on DVD+R and DVD+RW but these are the only formats it will support when recording. My problem is that it seems incompatible with a standard DVD player so I cannot record something on the Alba and then play it on another machine even when, say, recording on on +R and using Standard Play (2 hrs). Am a bit of a novice at this so am not sure whether make of DVDs makes a difference !
