£80 from Amazon, I bought this machine based on the reviews here. I would reccommend this machine to everyone looking for a basic recorder.
I hacked this machine successfully today using instructions at http://ilodvd.atspace.com/
1. Press 'Setup'
2. Scroll down to highlight 'Exit'
3. While 'Exit' is hightlighted, input 2 9 6 0 and 'enter'
4. Press cursor right on the remote control twice
5. Select Region Free.
Very easy, and I've had no problems |

Further update still working perfectly – no trouble at all – Recorded and finalised disks are compatable on all other dvd players I have tested. A bargain – thans for pointing out the QTR mode
One question – has anyone got a universal remote control working with this? I tried oneforall and the codes don’t exist for it – even using the learning function of the remote did not work. – just have to make sure I don’t lose the remote in the first place!

Regarding previous report:
QUOTE: "1. No quick timer record mode (will just record untill disc is full, or have to manually press stop or set it up as a timer record). "
On my player the first press of the record button starts it, subsequent presses set the record time in 30m blocks which is clearly displayed in the info bar at the top. This is also in the instructions. Is yours different???
Setting the unit to region free was ridiculously easy. This has been an excellent buy.

Exelent Value player (£99 Asda)- update to my previous post - Still very pleased - has lots of positives - i.e. does what its meant to.
Here are the faults I have discovered so far:
1. No quick timer record mode (will just record untill disc is full, or have to manually press stop or set it up as a timer record).
2. Recordings have a slight greeenish tint.
3. Compatability - discs play on PC, don't play on PS2, play wierdly on my other stand alone player (fits image onto Left side of the screen only leaving the right half of the screen blank - very strange! - maybe cos I'm on 4hr disc mode?) - but concerned what will happen to my recordings when this player dies - may have to convert them all on my PC and re-burn!)
Apart from that all is exellent!! would recommend it. |

Got the 4Kus after returning a Cyberhome recorder back to Asda and I'm so glad I did. It is a massive improvement over the Cyberhome. It is smaller, sleeker, quieter and much easier to use via sensible menu's. Even the remote is nicer and a more practical size.
I particularly like the way programs saved are automatically protected from being written over and you can also protect an individual recording instead of just the whole disc. This was not the case with the Cyberhome.
It is also quieter apart from the occasional disc spin up / down noise akin to a computers cd drive. I prefer that occasional noise instead of the constant "chattering" noise from the Cyberhome.
The only thing that could be improved is the initial tuning set up, it is not as polished as the Cyberhome and a little confusing but at least it only has to be done once.
Although I have only had it 5 days I am very impressed and so glad my Cyberhome became faulty!
Fingers crossed it keeps performing. |

| This machine appears to have a problem with RGB input. I've had two with the same problem, its not major but its annoying. The problem is to do with switching sources. If you watch a DVD then go back to watching your RGB source (sky Cable etc) the colour balance of the picture can be poor. Sometimes its OK sometimes it lacks a bit of red or looks washed out. If you cycle through the input sources the picture can improve (or deteriorate dependant on your luck) |

only had for 4 days but am very happy with it so far.
+ it works well
- can't put my finger on it but the sky picture looks a little strange when viewed through it - this is notceable on the sky guide the colours seem to be banded and scroll up the screen - it is hardly noticable in normal viewing though and not present when recording.
much better than the cyberhome which i had to take bake. |

Bougt this yesterday after finding a bit of info online (though not a lot) and reflecting on What Hifi review.
Have been holding off a DVD Rec until prices dropped but am always suspicious of 'supermarket specials' which seem to offer loads for suchlow prices but decided to take the plunge with this.
Basically, WOW.
I'm very impressed with the kit for 3 important reasons.
1. Recording quality. 4 levels (1h per disc, 2hr, 4hr and 6hr). Have tried recording at 2 and 4 hrs from Sky via Scart (the recorder has RGB input). IMO 2 hrs is indistinguishable from the original broadcast, 4hrs is still very very good in my opinion but looses a little of the crispness of the original (but I'd say it's ideal for recording TV stuff which isn't for keeping).
2. Incredibly simple to use - I'm fairly IT Literate but was astounded at the simpicity of this. There's the usual manual settings but it also has simple 'wizards' for recording, erasing disks etc so it's idiot proof.
3. If cost £119.99. Pruice isn't everything but to get something thi good for so little makes me very happy.
Only issue might be getting hold of one. I rang my local Asda and they knew nothing about them and were not helpful. I rang another store 20 miles away and they only carried 2 in stock at any one time so they were reticent of setting one aside for me for 24 hrs but I insisted and they came around. I'd say ring ahead before travelling!!! |

Sold in the UK at Asda, (also in US walmart as the ILO DVR04). Fairly inexpensive at £140. Unit is badged as a Lite-on on the rear cover.
This model was rated the no 2 DVD recorder in the UK WHAT HI-FI magazine group test in December (the no1 was a Sony unit at £360), where it outshone a host of more expensive big name models.
Excellent video recording quality with up to 6hrs available from a DVD+R/+RW (only +r/+RW), to me picture quality at this level is as good as VHS SP.
Unit can be region hacked from the remote - not sure about Macrovision as I haven't tried, no real interest on that one, just happy as long as it plays our region 1 discs.
Plays -R/-RW ok (Arita)recorded on my PC and records OK on Traxdata and Maxell +RW.
+R/+RW discs recorded on this unit play OK on the 4 other DVD players we have and the portable, and the PC.
Tried video transfer via RCA connection from a Sony 8mm camcorder - normally I use my PC through an ATI Radeon capture board - the quality of the recording by the 4KUS unit was stunning in comparison to the PC, and will now become my chosen method of getting video onto the PC for editing. The unit has firewire and SCART connections also.
The reception on the internal tuner was poor at first but adding a £10 signal amplifier improved both the quality of the 4KUS picture and also the analogue pictures on our Sony DVB TV so it was probably more of an issue with signal strength.
Only had one small problem since buying it, it would not shutdown and had to be powered off at the mains to reset it, not a major issue as it's only happened once.
Since we bought it, our region 2 only unhackable Sony DVD Player and Sony VHS machines have never been used.
Good quality, simple to use (even the Mrs can set it), good menu system, reliable, and cheap...... have rated it a 9 because for £140 I'm well impressed with my purchase, nice one Asda. |

Bought this DVD recorder a couple of weeks ago and have no complaints at all
Have used the RW disk shipped with the unit and 4 Maxell DVD +R disks without any issues at all
Quality is excellent and there are 4 different qaulity settings ranging from 1 hour to 8 hours recording time
Tried the 4 hour setting and have to say was well impressed with the results
Well done Asda (and What HI-FI magazine) for bringing this recorder to my attention.
Haven't tried all the playback features as I have a Panasonic player with bells and whistles!!
