I don't think I would buy this now (2005) that there are other divx players out.
- Firmware haven't been updated in ages
- FF with divx skips ahead 1 min andyou can't see it FF screen blanks out.
(Newer brands do this no problem)
- Unreliable DVD-R playback even with Ridata 4x 8x disks.
(My 3 yesr old APEX plays everything why can't this one)

Don't buy this machine. It really doesn't matter if it plays DivX or not, because it is poorly made, technical support is poor, and customer support is worse.
Feature wise I love this machine. I bought it for DivX files and it worked okay for the most part. Plays most DivX files, but not all. However, even from the beginning the machine was a little buggy. I thought it might be the firmware, and was looking forward to the upgrades. In hindsight, there was something wrong with the machine and it just got worse. I didn't even use it that much, but by month 9 I realized that it was having problems with DVDs. It stilled played DivX, so I didn't even bother, but by month 12 it didn't play DVDs at all and was having problems with some of the files it played before.
I was ONE day past the warranty period when I contacted customer service. They didn't care. I was not covered at all. Last time I'll buy anything from LiteOn.
From all the reviews I have read for this machine, I wonder if LiteOn does any quality control on their products. If you decide to buy from LiteOn anyways, good luck to you, but the odds are not good. |

I don't give it a 10 out of 10, because I'm not satisfied with the audio quality. Before I bought this one, I purchased a Daytek with a good video and excellent audio. The audio-setup was complete: treble, bass, extra bass, reverb, etc. everything could be used and tuned.
This Liteon has no choice at all (unless there must be a trick, but I haven't found that).
It came with 0229, but I'm running on the latest firmware (0302) and it's great. No problems whatsoever! The video is great, AVI looks like DVD. And subtitles show up.
I think one of the problems people have with running the firmware upgrade is patience! It shows a black screen without any informations for quite some time, but it works!!!!!! |

| After owning this player for about 6 months I happened to drop it and now it's broken. It still turns on but the disc tray is stuck closed and will not open. If anyone wants to purchase this broken unit for parts, or if anyone needs a replacement remote control or power cord, give me an e-mail and we can work something out. |

This player had a good potential but the customer support of LiteON is really bad.
The last firmware has a lot of buggs and they don't want to developp a new.
Keep out of this Manufactor and boycott it for all the products. |

New firmware works great. Still plays DVD ect. Picture quality is excellent. Should try first if you really own it (the firmware) upgrade. If you read the posts here you would have known about the mp3 folder issue that it had before buying it. If you were counting on the firmware upgrade why didn't you try it.
Make sure you follow the directions when upgrading and all should be fine.

I've used this player now for over 6 months and have really not had any problems. I've tested it with DVDs, SVCD, VCD, DivX, Xvid, CD, & MP3. It also upgraded flawlessly to the "final build" without difficulty.
I think most users are being too harsh on this player. I mean, why would anyone buy this player other than for its ability to play DivX movies? Why would I spend 3-4x the cost of an "el cheapo" DVD player so I could play MP3's or even regular DVDs?
Come on, the main reason people buy this player is for its DivX capabilities. It was one of the first (if not the first) DVD players which could play DivX movies. And with the final upgrade, the quality of output is so good that DVD movies ripped to DivX 5.11 REALLY DO look nearly as good as the original DVD! In fact, unless you viewed 2 TV's side by side, one playing the DVD and the other playing DivX, you really could not tell the difference.
In fact, I cannot wait for the next generation of player from Liteon (LVD-2010) which can also play files from a network connection. I'll be the first in line. However, I have noticed from the ads that they do not appear to be DivX certified anymore, and are supporting only Xvid? That's unfortunate.

I don't know why the previous poster gave this shity player 10 of 10 when he admits that it didn't work after firmeware upgrade.
I tried to contact lite-on about so many problems I have with this player but they don't answer. It only cost me $70 but this is $70 too much. I have to throw it now to the garbage. |

| I don't know why everyone is having issues with this awesome player. I had problems only when I upgraded the firmware. It caused some discs to play for awhile and then crap out. I then downgraded to the same since there was nothing wrong with it. This player has played everything I've thrown at it including mixed music, mpeg2, mpeg1, divx cds and dvds all on one and reads all the formats thus far. SVCD and VCD burned as a dvd iso with perfect play back. Why even author anything anymore since it will play them just fine. Menus ha who needs them. I was trying to get another one of these recently for another room, but wasn't able to find them anywhere on the web. Great player! Great Price! |

I am one of those who made the mistake of buying this awful product. Unfortunately I couldn't return it to the reseller, so I am stuck with it until I have a budget to buy a different DVD player (and throw away this one).
I read here that firmware v.302 is available. Perhaps it can mitigate the bitter experience with this player (it currently has firmware v.229). But I also read many posts here that say that v.302 actually made things WORSE. Someone even says that after the firmware upgrade he cannot watch REGULAR DVDs anymore...
Anyone here can recommend the v.302 upgrade anyway?
Note that I am not interested that much in DivX and its variants. I bought it mainly for playing regular DVDs, SVCDs (home videos), regular CDs and MP3 CDs.

This player looks ever so sexy with all its promises...but actually delivers very little.
I already had a Smarmedia that is able to read every DVD-r/rw media and VCD,SVCD and DVD authored with DVD lab or DVD decryptor + IFOedit.
Still, as I was tired of authoring Divx/Xvid using Tmpgenc, I expected to save time playing all of these directly on an mpeg4 capable player.
I have had the LDV 2001 for a month now, and I have waisted a lot of DVD-r and CD burning Divx3 and xvid that this player can't play properly.
Support has delivered very little so far, telling me after 3 emails that their heart was "beating fast" after so much concern, but showed no real direct involvement in trying to solve my issues. Snd I have had no response on the next 3 emails I sent !!
Honestly: if I get no feedback from support soon, I will try to return the player, and will be happy to share my bad experience further....

Only an idiotic company like lite-on can come up with such a terrible player.
Not only many of the advertised features do not work, even those that "work", sometimes work and sometimes don't - depending on the player's mood.
Even an el-cheapo $30 player like the Cyberhome CH-300 lets you play MP3's by keying in the song number. This is a must since a CD can hold 200 songs and this is the only sane way to access song #199 for example.
But not with the LVD-2001. In this player you have to scroll down, one-by-one, using its slow-to-death remote control, until you reach the requested song.
Heck - it can't let you use folders, even if you orgnized the MP3's into folders before burning the CD. What an incompetent implementation.
Wait a minute, you say, Lite-On have put their latest firmware on, supporting folders. Oh yeah??? Is it 0302 or 0301beta as the previous poster wrote?
If you go to http://www.liteonit.com.tw/DC/english/csd.htm as the previous poster mentioned, you will find that the latest available firmware is 0229. No 0301beta, no 0302. Why???

Lite-On have put their latest firmware on. It's version 0301beta and it merits the leap from 02xx firmware to 03xx because I have tried all the discs I have had problems with before and they play perfectly. I have not found any discs to suffer from the constant freezing I had beforehand.
The player now plays DivX 3.xx, 4.xx, 5.xx, XviD and even div3 flawlessly as far as my initial tests have found. The fast forward function even works alot faster now. Get the new beta firmware from here:

The mp3/wma folder structure has now been implemented. You simply press the STOP button after inserting the disc and select [Up Folder] to access all the folders on your music CD.
Subtitles still aren't supported but maybe I'm not using thr right one. I use srt files.
If this firmware is beta then I can't wait for the official release. This is a huge improvement in quality and funtionality. The only thing I would like is for the DivX files with the old DivX audio (WMA 2 I think) to be compatible with this player. Then I would love Lite-On for the rest of my life.

Very strange problem:
I have a TV set which supports both NTSC and PAL signals.
I connect my LVD-2001 using a SVIDEO connection.
I made my player region free.
When I play a NTSC movie, the playback during fast moving scenes is no smooth, every second or so there's a slight fallback in playback speed (looks like disk access, but very consistent). Especially noticeable in scene's like the spaceghip flying past the camera in Alien 1.
I do not have this problem playing back PAL movies...
Fiddling with the P-SCAN button settings doesn't resolve my problem .
Anyone experiencing the same problem? I had this problem using any version of the firmware, and tested NTSC playback on 2 other LVD-2001 players and experienced exactly the same problem.

Seems like the .srt file was not the problem.
The player seems to have trouble with XviD files which were encoded with B-VOP set to yes.
The yamada dvx-6000 plays this same movie without problems while the liteon hangs when loading the movie.
Only way to solve this is to re-encode or ... throw away the disc ;)

DlsSurfr,if the subtitles are not working it's because they aren't srt.
You have to see if they with frame rate our time by secs.You can transforme the subs with the subtitleEditor.

I have tried the new firmware release(032),it works great,the mp3 folder,the srt subtitles files.
To answer the question of subs,they have to be srt,put subs flie with the same name has the avi.
Start the movie then push the subtitle button,the movie stops 1/2 secs,its normal.
Then enjoy
P.S:Have to appear on the TV the substitle starting.
