| Bought to replace a broken Sungale 8208 (power supply blew up - literally) as a karaoke player. WHile DVD's work OK, player is unusable for karaoke. About half of my discs have video distortion that prevents reading the words on-screen, also serious sync problems. The Sungale 8208 functioned much better. OK as a stand-alone DVD player (my previous Sony and the Sungale both had better-looking video output). Has a very nice fast-forward adn reverse function. |

| Bought this after returning a Daewoo s151. Region free code works like a charm. Plays everything I need it to play. Sound and picture quality are superior to the s151. I'm a rookie in the dvd world but if you need a multi region class dvd player for little money, this seems the way to go. |

| Bought at Traget - works FANTASTIC. Image is slightly darker than many (Blacklevel seems to be 0IRE). Note, on many players this is switchable - not on this one. This actually means better contrast, but it's annoying if you don't have seperate brightness adjustments for each input... Picture quality is superb. Plays miniDVD/cDVD but it starts breaking up after a second. Did detect disc type as "miniDVD". I imagine it would work with lower bitrate miniDVDs. Plays MP3-CD, all files I tossed at it, including some very high bitrate VBR files. DOES NOT CORRECTLY DISPLAY TIME ELAPSED/TOTAL for VBR MP3s! This seems to be calculated based on the initial bitrate, leading to it thinking the file is longer than it is. Playback does sound great though, so this doesn't bother me. PAL/NTSC convert. OPTICAL S/PDIF out (rare on cheap players). Overall an excellent buy. I returned a CyberHome320 that basically didn't work at all and exchanged it for this little gem! Proving, once again, that the Korean electronics industry is just as capable of producing a good product as the Japanese electronic industry (and at a lower price!) |

vcd/svcd will sometimes skip or the sound will cut out on mpeg-1 files that have been combined into 1 file, but only where it was separated, otherwise plays mpeg-1 files just fine.
Picky about dvd authoring, only likes dvd image files burned by dvd decrypter, but not sonic. Otherwise if you use the templates for a menu and just add the mpeg-2 files as .mpg it works with sonic.
Imation dvd-rw 1x worked very good.
Memorex dvd-r 4x worked ok, 8 disks for 2 disks that played, other 6 disks were image files burned by sonic or reburned by dvd decrypter where it errored out while writing the lead-in. Go-Video dvp850 dvd player played all 8 disks and the dvd-rws without a problem.
In cool temperatures the dvd player's laser would sometimes get stuck, and when you insert a dvd it would jump directly to the movie with subtitles on and you couldn't turn them off. Was fixed by leaving it on for a hour and jumping from the beginning to the end of a disk about 15 times.
The only bad parts are: the sound is reset back to stereo after it's turned off, sound from the dvd drive can get annoying if you constantly skipping to a new chapter, the region is reset when the power goes out, and zooming in doesn't remove the black lines on the top and bottom of the picture if your watching a 16:9 or animorphic wide-screen dvd on a 4:3 tv.
All in all the picture looks good, audio isn't bad and can play most formats. |

| This is basically a good player and all the positive things said about it are true. The major drawback is it's handling of TV episode DVD's. At least 50% of the time they start out stumbling and with audio out of synch. I don't know if this happens on movie DVD's. This ruins an otherwise excellent DVD player, back to Target it goes. |

Inexpensive, excellent S-video output, good contols, Region change via remote works as described in other submissions on this page.
Unfortunately, my machine purchased from Target for $58 on sale, does not play ANY DVD+R (Philips, Maxell, FujiFilm, Verbatim (4x and 2.4x). It plays DVD+RW (Imation with occasional freezes, Sony and Verbatim). It Plays FujiFilm 4x DVD-R perfectly. All DVD's written by Sony DRU-500, different authoring (TMPGenc, DVDShrink, Ulead first version).
My machine also skips occasionally when changing menus on commercial DVD's (example Lara Croft, Tomb Raider). Continuous movies play fine.
Bought this machine as a "bedroom TV" DVD player, so progressive scan, audio decoding, etc. is not important. Regret that it will not play DVD+R. |

in addition to playing every single thing I put in it - it amazed me that unlike the minktek-1600 this player would not only play karaoke discs but would play all of these different formats no matter what brand of disc I used, what software I used to burn it and it also didn't matter what version of udf, iso or mode on any format disc. this player rocks. It even has a mic input on the front so you don't need a mixer to sing along with karoake discs. I am going back to buy a backup and one for everyone in my family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. Target has them as a conveyable item which means they won't carry it normally - so get it while the gettin's good guys. This is a diamond in the rough!
P.S.S. It also wouldnot freeze or skip no matter what bitrates or playback features were used. Also love the 3d effects processor in it - selectable between 8 different sound fonts.
The remote is cooler than the mintek and the mp3's don't jitter on the bass notes.
very stylish
sorry just never thought I would find a player that has it all that is here in the US!!!!!!!! |

Just purchased the DVG-5200S for a gift to give. I plan on giving them DVD-R discs to play so I wanted to make sure it could play them ok. After seeing that no one verified this, I figured I would add a quick comment...
Seems to play DVD-R discs just fine! The brand of disc I used was Princo.
While I'm not an expert on the subject, this seems like a nice unit for the money - has an optical output as well as the other digital outputs. |

Got this unit at Target for $62 bucks, now it is on sale for $58 bucks. Great looking slim line player where the controls are few but simple. The remote is better than my Apex AD600 not bad. Plays just about all I have tried.
Plays standard VCDs and SVCDs very well. I though I had chapters with the SVCD, but they did not show. This player plays MPEG files written directly to the CD and Mini DVDs!!! I have found that the unit cannot handle video bitrates above 4.2 mbit/sec. Any higher and the audio cuts in and out (at at very fast rate). If I keep the bitrate down to 4.0 works very well. I do detect some minor video jerkiness (very minor).
I have tested using both CDR and CDRW (both verbatim), with no problem.
I have no problem playing standard movie DVDs.
For a less than $70 dollar player, I am very happy at this point (2 months old).

| I bought this player in Target for $60. It has nice features. Display is good. I am not able to find hacks to play other region dvds. It accepts 120-240 volts. If I can not find any region hacks within another 2 weeks, I will probably be returning it, since that is an important feature for me. |
