miniDVD freezes when the bitrate gets high.
SVCD judders horizontally on some TVs if there's much action in the left hand side of the (16:9) screen.
MP3 CDs sometimes "pop" and "squawk".
Haven't had a single problem with commercial DVDs. |

Very light use, now it switches off after 5-10 mins. no-one wants to know about this player re servicing. No service = crap DVD Player, no matter how good the spec is. Its nice to look at but as it is it's just a lump of black plastic.
I am very disappointed in this DVD Player especially as it cost quite a bit more than most budget dvd players, mainly due to it's 5.1 plugs at the back and that was the main reason I purchased it.
Take my advice buy an Asda Pacific 1002, if its faulty they will change it; no arguments, thats service for ya.
A dvd player can have all the bells and whistles you want on it but if it aint got backup you aint got jack. Lesson learned. |

| paid a lot for this piece of junk, highly recomended to me, worked fine at first, played most things i chucked at it, started to freeze during playback, even on original DVD'S, kept locking up. No one was prepared to mend it, all the repair shops i tried had never even heard of the make. Bought via Ebay, so no guarantee. where is it now you may ask, well it went into the rubbish skip. Conclusion to this tale, is don't always belive what you read here, buy a well known brand, from a well known source with backup. |

It has played all the disks I've tried, including every variety of X/S/VCD up to bitrates of 4000 and I had an old Personal Computer World cover disk from March 1996 with a Polygram demo rock VCD in a sub-directory and it looks amazing. Just wish I had something to produce such encoding quality as it I had to check on my PC that it was only a VCD!
MP3's play really well, with playlist programmability, endless repeat of song, folder (directory) and programme, but make sure you use filenames which say something useful in about ten characters!
I've used Verbatim and Ritek CDRWs over and over whilst testing, with no problems and various cheap CDRs that have been bashing about in my car glovebox and they play just fine too. Commercial CDs play perfectly of course.
DVD quality is just wonderful and the additional 1.5x zoom which isn't mentioned in the manual (the weakest part of the package as it is very vague on many functions) is perfect for filling a 4:3 screen with a 16:9 image if the DVD disk itself has no other option to achieve this.
I made a slide show of Jpegs of scanned family photos and digital originals and put them on a VCD and they are crystal clear, with zooming only limited by the quality of the original file, not in any way similar to zooming a VCD movie.
All it really lacks is slow motion/frame advance, but that doesn't really bother me. Just be sure it will fit where you are going to put it, as it's a standard width at 430mm, but many others (such as the Kiiro 838) are smaller and may suit you better.
There was no problem looping it through my VCR either.
One For All are preparing a new setup code (0780) for their DVD capable remotes to use with the YELO 800 (as at 13/8/2002), but check that it is fully finished with their customer services before you get it downloaded, or it will offload any existing additional codes you have loaded.
It may no longer be available soon as it's gone from the Kiiro.co.uk web site, so if you want one get it now. I bought mine at amazon.co.uk and service was fast and efficient. |

Plays everything I throw at it, even stuff that my toshiba SD210e rejected...
Bought some really cheap DVD-R (75p ex-vat) from www.ebuyer.com...tosh spat these out with disgust, but yelo plays them
Every so often it has a problem with the DVD-R, but at under £1 I can't complain, I just retry with the same disc and it seems to be happy the 2nd time
Had a bit of a problem after a few months, when the thing wouldn't power up properly, contacted Kiro (the new distributor) and they sent out a replacement. Apparently this is a common problem...we shall see, but for now ...VERY HAPPY
BTW mine was region free when I bought it through www.amazon.co.uk (although they didn't have any sympathy when the above fault occured and the servicing/contact details in the manual were incorrect) |

| Wonderful machine for such a relative low price. Plays everything I throw at it. Great for mp3s and plays mp3-pro audio format (mpeg2 layer3). Just burned my photo gallery on to a cheap CD-R using SVCD format with Nero burner, works fine. Only my photography skills let me down when I view my photos displayed on my large 32inch T.V. The yellow background and ping noise could be improved/removed for a perfect DVD player. Player comes with SVHS, SCART and Composite output + cables to connect to any TV instantly. No problems with PAL or NTSC playback and backups DVDs to a normal VHS video, macrovision was disabled straight out of the box. |

This player is amazing it plays almost everything that
you can throw at it. I have tried loads of types of CD media from cheap 10p CDR's to £1.50 CDR's. It is multiregion and with a simple hack the macrovision can be disabled. I would recommend this player to anyone. |

Bought this from Amazon for £150 primarily to replace my broken 3.5 year old Panasonic codefree, but also to allow me to view my home movies on CD-R. I've finally found a combination that gives almost DVD quality on an XSVCD at 720x576 3500bps contant bitrate. I could probably push the bitrate up a little at the expense of disk space, but I'm happy with that. I'm also trying variable bitrate to save space, but early tests produced stuttering playback. Have tried some MP3s from a mates portable player burned onto a CD-RW - no problems. Also played an old VCD fine. It's a shame it can't handle miniDVD menus and the full DVD 9800bps bitrate (I guess a drive upgrade may fix the latter).
Great value for money even with the annoying ping. Ropey screensaver that crashes the player, ability to switch off CCS (why!!!!!) and macrovision (naughty naughty). Gaudy yellow splash screen. |

I bought mine 3 days ago from After Hours Computers for £156.86. According the the Kiro 838d does everything the Yelo does and has Macrovision disabled. I decided on the the Yelo as I had read all the reports and felt better about it.
It was well packed and has a good handbook that is well laid out. Have watched a couple of music DVD's and 3 films unfortunately using the TV's sound. Even so I was very pleased with the output of both picture and sound.
To get into the engineers screen to disable the Macrovision from the remote key in:- Eject-Setup-Mute-Last-Next. To get out just reverse the order.
Roy at After Hours computers donates the small profit to a hospital charity (see his web site. He doesn't take credit cards so I transfered my cash via HSBC Internet Banking. I ordered on Thursday morning and it arrived 1pm the next day.
I think that is brilliant service. |

It is a good player for the price £156 from
www.aferhours.co.uk. (best deal)
First time I saw Yelo is at my friends place I was
happy to see and test with my home made VCD & SVCD and mini DVD disks. All worked fine, miniDVD you have to
select file to play amd menus are ignored.
So I order one for me but unfortunately I had few problems with mine, problems playing SVCD
and remote control functions did not work sometimes.
I had to turn the player off/on all the time to reset it, very noisy, so at moment I am waiting for replacement.
This little trouble did not put me off from this
all region+ plays RCE disk+ any disk format DVD player.
If you add a bit more money you can get Pioneer DV-444S £189.00 inc.VAT&delivery which is also good player (check dvd list on this web site for more info) from www.askdirect.co.uk. Unfortunately I did not have chance to personally test this player so I am on the safe side with Yelo 800 DVD player.

Excellent player for it's money.
Plays miniDVD but ignores any DVD-Video Menu, so you need to select the VOB file manually with the players inbuilt "smart-navi" system which open automatically on an unknown format disk.
Wil also play standard MPEG1 and MPEG2 files burned onto the disk in the same way, no need to use VCD or SVCD file structures here.
Best deal in UK at present is http://www.lynxdv.com at £189.99 inc. delivery and vat (and they put details on the region hack info in the box).

| It is possible to get in to the engineering menu using a few commands on the remote control, I have lost the article on how to do this but it is possible, and this allows you to take off the region coding decection and also to turn off macrovision. It plays VCDs SVCDs MP3s. The player has excellent sound quality and also has all the dolby 5.1 surround sound outputs which is very good for a budget player. The picture quality is excellent as well and much better than any other players in it's price range. |
