CVD? $250 30 days 10 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 ID3 TAG DivX XviD Comments: i have the DVD-S559MK2. It plays al my discs sofar. The size of the srt subs showed on screen are too small. It also takes very long to read a dvd+r dual layer disc. Up to 20 secs or so. I dont know why. dual layer disc i used :dvd+r DL Platinum 8x. Well the package says 8x but you can only burn them 2.4x. Picture quality is very very good. Better than my Kiss dp-1000. Sound quality is superb.I hear sounds that i have never heard before in my cd's. I bought the player together with the RX-V459 receiver and the NS-P270 speakerset. it has no digital optical output only coaxial.dont know if that makes a difference in soundquality.have to google on that.

CVD? $250 3 days No rating DivX XviD Comments: One of the few "high end" players that supports divx and xvid. Tried it with a very recent movie ( saw III dvdrip diamond). Easy to make region free. 99990 with the tray open is the code to put it. Sharp, clear picture on my 50" plasma. The menu looks a hell of a lot like my low end yamada player that costed like 40 Dollars back in the day. Dont use composite right away, configure it with your plain old scart cable and then set composite in the preferences. Otherwise you dont have any signal. Player feels solid, starts up the xvids fast. Used Sony rewritable media. First impressions are good, expensive player but the easiest to make regionfree and supports all formats.

CVD? $90 1 days 9 of 10 DivX Comments: My previous DVD player is Toshiba SD330. So I am comparing the new Yamaha with this old machine. The Yamaha build quality looks sturdier and more expensive. There are very few buttons on the player which make it looks simple and elegant but also remind you not to lose the remote control. The player setting control is very extensive especially its audio and video set up which allow you to control for Audio Dynamic Range control and picture quality setting. The player also has memory function that would allow you to resume from last watch scene from same disc even when you already took it out from the tray. The player also has a very clear OSD which really helps as my player is quite a distance from my viewing area. Video quality is excellent in DVD or DiVX. Subtitle for DiVX is good as well. Here are some niggles that I found so far. Yamaha's tray loading seems to be a bit noisier and slower. The player also doesn't give any indication when it is in standby mode.
