CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Used it over a year now. Very happy with it. The only down is that (S)VCD sometimes freezes and you have to FFWD to get back to that point in the movie. But I dont use VCD's anymore. DVDR playback is perfect, it plays every (well burned)DVDR(W) +/-. But what I wanted to tell is that there is a Firmware update for this player on the Yamaha website! Check it out, it might solve any problems.

N/A 8 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: Great player. - For DVD : no problem, perfect sound and picture. - For SVCD : works great (i use DVD2AVI, TMPGEnc, Hypercube or Besweet for sound, VCDEasy authoring and Nero image burn), accept a lot of bitrates, PAL and NTSC, multiple audio track, 4 subtitles (WinSubMux - selective), all audio tracks 44kHz, 48kHz, MPEG 5.1 Multichannel works too, compatible with non-standard MPEG resolution, support for Interactive PBC (menu and chapters in VCDEasy), search speed 4x and 32x ok - For MP3 : no problems with multisession mp3-cd, the disc navigator is a good thing, full names from ID3 Tag works very good on display and tv screen, long filenames supported, CD Text ok, very good navigation in folders with remote (up/down) and tracks (left/right), no random and search option for MP3. - For JPG : haven't tested. - For MPG1/2 ISO : haven't test - For DVD-R/RW : haven't test Resume option for DVD, SVCD/VCD and CD. firmware version : So I highly recommend this player... Great choice for a good price (780 PLN in Poland)

CVD? $350 N/A 4 of 10 Comments: I have bought Yamaha's player in the beginning of March (2 days ago) and only after 2 days I am considering returning it to the store and getting a Nintaus or a Mustek. I encoded some DV footage to VCD in Pinnacle Studio and then burned it to a TDK CD in Nero 5.5.1. It played ok in my parent's Mustek and freezed in my brand new yamaha!!! I tried other VCD's (more than 10)that worked fine in Mustek only to find out the image freezes and that a substantial part of the screen is covered in green squares. I'm very disapointed with this DVD player.

CVD? $250 N/A 7 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: plays tdk/verbatim/dysan cdrw no problem, svcd subs disappear every 10-15 minutes, have to rewind a second to get them back on screen. svcd chapters, ff/rewind works OK, no desync. problems with cdaudio: when skipping to the next audio track, there's a short click before the track starts to play overall a nice dvd player, but the firmare is little buggy

Now i have buyed it, and i am not so happy, because today i would play a photo CD (with albums), burned with WinONCD 5 PowerEdition - Worse luck ! not supported ! On the monitor it says "check VCD 2.0 support" !???? regards, wrzscr in europe

User's guide says max MP3 bitrate it can play is 256kbit/s, but I tried it with VBR mp3 that went up to 320kbit/s and it played perfect (yes, it does play VBR MP3s). ID3 tags are truncated at 32 chars - not necessarily something I like but since the front panel also displays ID3 tags, it would be a pain if it displayed all 256 characters some people tag their mp3's with. Cannot fast forward MP3s, though - I miss this one. Plays SVCD fine (burned with cdrdao under Linux), sync remains after fast forward. No playback problems encountered so far, one thing that one needs to get used to is to press "play" after fast forwarding as the player remains in that mode - this is true for playback of DVD, SVCD or CD. Overall, very good value for the money.

CVD? $250 N/A 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Tested it in the shop. Played Pioneer DVD-R, DVD-RW disks, TDK CD-RW with CBR MP3's flawlessly. MP3 indeed only comes out through the analog output (the manual says this is to comply with the SDMI). One thing I miss is the ability to play SACDs, although I'm not sure I will really miss it. Menu looks the same as on Philips players so I assume the internals are pretty much the same. I haven't had the chance to try the region code hack through the Palm Pilot , but others have reported it works so I hope it's really gonna work. All the more so as I am going to buy it this afternoon along with a Yamaha RX-V430 and a pair of Quadral QLX 205's.

I don't love the file browser, but then I haven't found one I even like yet. This one may be better than most. It plays VCD, but it does not show menus on discs burned by Nero (the only ones I have and can test). The unit just starts playing the first track. I also tried a 3000kbps XVCD, which it could not play without stuttering.
