I bought the YAMAHA S520 over a year ago, and I didn´t have problems reading DVDs nor audio CDs, apart from the disgusting freeze it made on some DVDs randomly. I don´t know why, but now this player hast stopped playing audio CDs or mp3. Now it only recognizes DVDs Could a Firmware update solve this problem? Can anyone post a working URL for a firmware update and tell me how to apply a firmware update? Thanks for your help

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I have just tried the firmware update as recomended by others for the philips dvd player.Firmware version 4.150......Well it took it, so lets hope it stops those annoying pauses/freezing issues so many others mention.

CVD? $200 N/A No rating MPEGISO Comments: Cannot keep the power switch on permanently, so that when you turn on the amp, and the DVD player is plugged into the amp's aux power jack, the unit turns on as well... any button will turn on the unit though... for instance press the eject button and the unit's power is turned on...

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Hello, I use dvdit PE for autor, and a sony DRU500a for DVD writer. with a DVD+RW Samsung (10$)no problem with a DVD+RW Sony (10$)no problem with a DVD+RW Intenso (5$)after 5 min it pauses for a second and then resumes or go faster.(www.Intenso.de) ??????

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: I have the problem with vcd/svcd playback, every 10/15 mins it pauses for a second and then resumes. This can happen at any point and when i play the disc back it happens at diffrent points(never the same point again) which indicates the player not the media. I have read about the firmware upgrades on this site and can anyone tell me which upgrade to use to fix this problem. I dont care about any problems with mp3 or anything else its just the freezing that really bothers me. you can email me at snake_metal@hotmail.com it would be most appreciated

While it plays without problems VCDs burned with Nero 5.5+ it doesn´t play VCDs burned with Ulead DVD Picture Show 1.1. Has anybody a solution for me? Could it be the firmware? Or is it incompatability of Nero, InCD (also from Ahead) and Ulead DVD Picture Show (all this software is installed on my Computer)? Any answer is welcome

The player just stops and start over again when I do that. So the firmware isn't that good anyway. Martin

N/A No rating Comments: I have testes CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW. Works fine!!!! SVCD, VCD only standard bitrate!!!! Firmware update makes it a bit better but does not allow XVCD and XSVCD again. I suppose that drive is 2X speed and it's hardware limitation. The only bad thing for me was that it does not support XVCD and XSVCD, but having bought Toshiba DVD Writer it's not a point for me any more. It does not show mp3 file names, but it improves the sound of normal audio disks. This is my subjective opinion.

The problem that i had was: freeze sometimes while playing DVD Film with the MP3 on CD, when i skip a song, the player go forward for 3,4,5,... or complete folder. Now these problem disappears. I'm testing this firmware and i'm entusiastic. I public the link where you can find the firmware and the instructions. It's very simple. The player is completely compliant with the Philips DVD players. Don't esitate to upgrade the firmware. The only things that you need are a CD recorder and Nero. But I agree that sometimes (not very often though) it freezes for a 1/4 second. No problems with VCD. About mp3 playback I cant care less (but I understand it is important for some people) cause I hate digital music ;) Remote control is handy. Front panel display could be better. I wait for a good player when I bought this one, I got better than I expected. (I bought this player in late 2002, could it be one with updated firmware? Looks like my player is working better than average S520...or am I only dreaming?)

We use it to put our backing audio and video on (I'm in a band). And the freezing gives us a great deal of concern when playing live. We are taking it back for a more robust model.
