Comments:
Just updating MPEGISO.

Plays MPEG-1 & 2 files with 44.1 kHz audio. 48 kHz audio sounds choppy.

Same with MiniDVD. Plays MiniDVD (even says MINIDVD as it loads) but 48 kHz audio will be choppy. Non-standard??? MiniDVD 44.1 kHz should work.

Comments:
I must question the support for DVD+R DL on this player. If you find this player does support dual layer, then please report the media type (either here, or by filling out a media report and selecting this player as supported or not supported).

Here are my test results using a Plextor PX-716A burner:

Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (Disc ID: MKM-001-00)

Booktype set to DVD+R DL:
Player reports "NO DISC". No doubts here, no brand DL media will work with this setting.

Booktype set to DVD-ROM:
Player reads first layer fine up to the layer break but cannot find second layer. It sounds like it is trying hard to find that second layer but it never succeeds and will eventually stop the disc. This makes it somewhat believable that different DL media may work... but I will doubt it until I see it.

(One final note: player will read DVD+R with either booktype setting.)

Comments:
Undocumented feature but plays MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files on CD through the MP3/JPEG navigator. Appears to play all bitrates and resolutions of MPEG 1 and 2.

Also plays all XVCD, XSVCD, XCVD, KVCD, and KSVCD as long as audio is 44.1 KHz and not 48 KHz.

No trouble converting PAL and NTSC with any type of disc (DVD, VCD, SVCD, etc.).

Perfect one! I burned over 2x50 Ritek G4 (nero6) 4X (pioneer A07), yamaha swallow all of them (no problem). The old Panasonic RPxx was too picky.

Great DVD-player (quality, durability, media reading, design.., PAL-NTSC able-hack, PICTURE QUALITY, quiet etc…. )
No Heat!!! (I had 2. Players & both are had “heat” problems).
Maybe this DVD deserves better-designed remote ctrl…anyway this one working good.

Discard my previous comment about the bass fluctuations, I had my receiver setup wrong. There isn't any bass flucuations. This DVD player is great. The remote could be better though.

Great Dolby Digital and DTS sound, better than Pioneer DV-563A-S by a big margin. Good picture. While playing CDs where was some bass fluctuation, until I used one of the equalizer options.

I would agree, the remote is not the best. I used another remote from my yamaha receiver and it is much better for layout. So far has played every dvd-r/rw dvd+r/rw cd-r/rw

Does it really do PAL to NTSC conversion? I don't need another dvd player except for needing this feature. The specifications on the Yamaha site don't list this as a feature...

Comments:
Can't think of anything that's missing on this unit. Other than SACD, but that would be too much to ask. Flawless playing of Region 1 and 2 DVDs (after applying the hack), SVCDs, CDRs with MP3 and JPEG, great picture control and progressive scan. Weak remote, not intuitive. That's why a 9. The player itself is a clear 10.

CD/SVCD Burner: nero
CDRs: affordable in-store Brands (OfficeDepot etc.), no problems.
