I consider subtitles unusable.....
Apearance:
Acordingly me, they are in some scenes NOT readable and moved too high to picture (why? when i can't display more than 40 chars?).
I would prefere to have possibility to set up appearance of subtitles (color,backgr, position).
Plus:
+Annoying ZOOM symbol was removed.
+elapsed time on DIVx was removed (default).
I didn't check problems with playing of MP3 reported earlier..
It's a long, long way to tiperery.....

Superb player with the new FIRMWARE divx subtitles possible.
BE CAREFUL with LEAD DATA (x52) cdr's:
only playing well when recorded at 24x speed :(

Remarks for the new firmware:
White subtitles with gray box: GREAT solution. Better than completely white subs, and definately better than the yellow subs. White subs with a black border would be better, but this is a second best solution. If the black border is too difficult, keep this solution. It's perfect readable, even in a white frame.
Dutch language addition at settings: you thought about the belgians and the dutch people Is there also a possibility to add the dutch language to the settings for dvd playback, so that dutch dvd subs are immediately selected?
Longer subs are not shown completely. Sometimes the first subtitle line continues at the second line, sometimes it cuts it off after a certain number of words.
Letters with an accent and umlaut, like é ä, ü è etc... are not shown. In stead it just gives a _
Some movies ony show subtitles for a couple of minutes, and just stop showing up. Maybe a fault in the subtitle file, maybe that there are certain incompatibilities between srt files?
For the rest, thank you for the beta version, and keep up the good work.

The screensaver doesn't work in MP3 player, so you have to switch off/on TV on end of each album/directory
The new firmware is not yet released, propably is in Redmont finalized.. ;-) |

I just received the player yesterday afternoon.
Cost: € 119,- incl.19% tax. (no shipping costs)
My biggest worries were that audio cd's (50 cd's)burned up to 48 speed (Nero5 (5.5) Express) would cause problems from track 12 to 15, which they do in some JVC dvd-players but not in a regular Sony cd-player. I was suprised to see that there were no problems. The overall sound coming out of my speakers has improved to.
Down sides:
Even doe the exterior design looks great, i find that the display is quit small and not clear to read.
The blue lighted strip (acording to pictures) under the tray, is not lighted ??!!!!?! which is a minus in the design compared to the pictures of the player. Especialy when this comes back in the rest of the interior of your living room.
The information in the manual looks incomplete. Besides; the manual is not availeble in Dutch(anoying)
The cd-tray looks and feels very fragile (cheap)
BUT -->
The biggest flaw is (remember; i've received the player yesterday) that when i woke up today and pushed the powerswitch; THERE WAS NO POWER ?!!!!?! it didn't do anything!!
there for i can not tell u further what does work and what doesn't, because now it DOESN'T WORK AT ALL !! I expect to get a new one and if it works, i'll give a raiting.

I bought this player from Maplin Electronics for £79.99 after reading good reports about it.
I bought it to replace the Neuneo Divx player which I recently bought and didnt like. The drive
was noisy and the player locked up a few times too. Also I couldnt get Rgb video out of it as it had no scart socket and the Phono to rgb scart failed to work as well.
So far I think this Yamada player is much better. The operating system (Setup menus etc) is the same as the Neuneo player and is actually very good. The one dislike though is that when playing mp3s you cannot jump to the next track with one button press. Instead you have to use the navigate up and down arrows and then press select.
I find this annoying when my tv is off and i just wish browse an album track to track.
Also, I have had an issue with an Ac3 Divx movie that played perfectly on my computer having audio sync problems.
Despite these minor problems I highly recommend this player. It looks nice and displays great video quality on my 32" pixel plus Tv.
Buy one ! My friend just did too. |

PLUS:
Media compatibility- i found NO problem with CD/DVD-R or -RW (some of them burned with 4speed DVD)
(memorex, verbatim, gigamaster) regardless of burning SW.
Scratched media was NOT played without breaks, but still picture stayed mostly only few seconds and after that film (DVD) advances to play at unscratched chunk. Other players freezed for many seconds/minutes (30sec etc)
Dolby 5.1 decoder is for low cost system very interesting.
Slim design.
MINUSES:
terribly uncomplete firmware, but if You plan to buy this player, verify (on your own eyes) that promised new functions http://www.yamada.de/FWupdate/FWsearch.htm
will really be implemented.
(New players are released before old players have fixed errors
"Nobody can deliver such things, that we can promise")
I miss:
1)DIVX subtitles (best with national charset coding) - it's nonsense to have a divx player with NO subtitles.
2)Controlling of MP3 player is TERRIBLE.
When you have MP3 files in directories and subdirs, You will be not able to control player without switching TV on, you can not use control keys on panel (there is no SKIP NEXT/PREVIOUS function, you have only page up/down for browser, but not row up/down, when you press PLAY on panel key and you are on directory entry, it doesn't play etc...)
NO ID3 tags, no filenames on DISPLAY, display something displays nonsens numbers, sometime displays track number+time, but sometime track number resets to zero, tracknumber is only 2 digits from current album(directory), but you don't know, which artist/album is played.
When album (directory) finishes, players stops, instead of playing another album- you have to switch TV, select another file in browser after each album. I miss RANDOM directory that means random seek in DIR, then play tracks 01-99 (last)
3)remote control reacts on my NAD receiver commands. I have found most of commands on NAD remote (e.g NAD-POWER-ON=YAMADA-PLAY but the worst is NAD-VolumeUp=parental lock whis is not available on YAMADA remote and default is parental lock is OFF, NAD-VolumeDown=AFF [i really don't know what does it mean]...)
I really don't know how should they correct it with firmware update...
4)manual si very poor, efectively you will get no information which you will need, even some basic terms (how should panorama setting PS/LB function i didn't see any change..
setup- you can set up center loudpeaker BIG/SMALL/OFF but i can only guess, what does it mean BIG)
You will not be able to find out what types of media and formats you can play.
Does it play DVD-MP3? try- it!
Even information on web is very short.
But some of that problems can be solved and if manufacturer really will to work on it, it could be wery interesting piece (in low-cost divx category.) But why to fix it, when all customers will rely on promises and buy it in advance? (Like me). They need our money, not our satisfaction.. :-)

Trying to get specs or manuals for this thing is like pissing into the wind.
In the absence of any instructions I took the radical step of burning a few avis straight to the disk (nero 6) and twating the burnt disk into the 6600. I expected to be be embarrased by my naivety, but instead was surprised by everything working ..... I suspect its chopping a bit too much of the image off the side, but i need to verify this.
The remote interferes with my Hitatchi TV and yamaha amp... this should not happen!!!

Finally the player was imported and I got it few days ago. Payed 140 euros. I tried many no-name and branded CD-Rs with DivX, XviD, Mp3, WMA, JPG, MPEG created by me or downloaded from the net and the player played everything, no problem. Most of the times the result was better than that on my 19" PC monitor, and a couple of times worst, probably because of my TV settings. I also tried a Sony DVD-R disc with several DivX, XviD and MPEG movies and played flawlessly. The menus are perfect, but I wish I could see more characters on the filenames. I haven't tried subtitles yet (I think only srt format is supported), 'cause I am aware that Hellenic (Greek) subtitles are not supported. must tr some english ones and see... If there was a Hellenic subtitle support (both srt & sub) and a resize-to-fill-screen function I would give this player a 10. The resize function would be great because when I'm watching 640*480 size movies a little from the tom and bottom is chopped, or maybe is just my TV.
However, I highly recomend this player, plays everything even on bad media, and at the price that it retails in other countries (100 euros on German Amazon) it really is a bargain! |

Looks great. Plays everything I've tried ( which isn't that much to be fair ).
Minor problem is that the volume down on the remote for my surround sound conflicts with the DVD remote and makes DVD films go back to the start of the film. |

Out of box, looked OK, good instructions, region free, matches my present home cinema set up, plays everything so far, even bad copies on DVD-R and +R.
Unfortunately conflict with my Yanaha RX-V540RDS A/V amp, when lowering the volume, the 6600 reverts to the menu screen making watching movies frustrating as we all have to adjust volume frequently during watching movies.
I would be pleased to know of other peoples specific conflicts with remotes so that I can inform Yamada. |

Need some HELP:
My Yamada DVX 6600 does not play:
- ac3-wav on data cd
- .dts files on data cd
- .ac3 files on data cd
Does not recognize the discs at all.
Makes strange things when using remote control from Harman Kardon ( a password field pops up )
Any hints ?
DTS Music is the most important thing for me.
Any workarouds ?

Very sleek design. Plays DIVX v. well... it's hard to believe the price. Jumpy playback when XVID has been encoded with advanced settings, hopefully this will be fixed in a future firmware. Still, very hard to fault it :)

Overall a very nice machine, but with a few problems. The unit can be affected by a Toshiba TV remote and a Humax Satellite 5400 remote!
Divx films always brings up an anoying counter/clock which takes several key presses to cancel. Subtitles on DVD rips most times default to ON.
Zoom mode leaves graphics on screen which you cannot get rid of.
Works with Bulkpaq orange and Datawrite Red DVD blanks burnt with Nero, it playes everything i have fed it even a scratched cd that nothing else will play!! |

Bought this mostly for the DivX playback, and can safely say I'm suitably impressed with it. Multi-speed ffw/rwd and zoom capabilities, plus it's read pretty much everything I've thrown at it codec-wise so far. Apparently it can't play sub files yet, but Umax insist that this will be rectified in the near future.
Elsewhere, can play multi-region DVDs out of the box and VCD / SVCD playback is fine.
Thoroughly recommend this player. |

Everything is burned with Nero
Most DVD-/+R/RW and CD-R/RW i tested was burned with NEC ND-2500

*To much CD-R brands to call it, all CD-R plays good with SVCD it has CVD subtitle and not SVCD
*It plays DVD-R Mp3 with different bitrates on it.

*It plays DVD+R Mp3 with different bitrates on it.
Media:Platinum (RICOHJPNR01) DVD+R 4x
It plays actually with every media i tested, didnt found one which didnt work, i think i was lucky with my media.
Till now i like the player the only thing that bugs me is the motorized tray CD mechanism, bleave me it is crap!

About subtitles:
The Subtitles will be supported with DivX and XviD within first firmware update and the time will be somewhere end March. With this update they will also solve OGG and GMC bugs.

Bought from Ebay.
Always burn with Nero.
Sony CDR - OK.
Memorex CDR - OK
Verbatim CDR - OK
Infinity CDR - OK

NO Name Bulk CDR - Sometimes. Badly.
Strange things happens when the DivX has AC3 Sound.
1. Didn't play the movie, just the sound.
Fastworded a bit and.
2. Got the picture, but the sound dissapeared.
So I say it doesn't support AC3 sound.
Doesn't read the swedish letters Å-Ä-Ö.
Doesn't read .sub or .srt (Subtitles)
Can't program a playlist when playing MP3.
Doesn't show more then 14 letters/numbers in filenames.
Why then an 8 in my rating:
-Excellent performance in Rewinding. 16X in DVD,MP3,DIVX,VCD,XVID,SVCD.
-Works as a clock when it's no SUBS, AC3, or NONAME media.
-Quiet
-Good looking
-SVCD, VCD 2.0 Chaptering works.
-Nice, simpel menus
SO I SAY. FIX THE BAD THINGS IN AN FIRMWARE UPDATE, and it will be a 10 !!

Question:
I did a quick compare between the DVX-6600 and the DVX-6000. And it stroke me that it seems to be that the DVX-6600 has less!?!?? features, or am I wrong?
E.g.
- No DivXSubs? Very important feature to me!!
- Fewer DVD+RW types supported, etc.
Is it true or have most of the features not been tested. |

Plays all my divx well, xvid also. Some movies bad quality image (some filter that's not supported?) Maybe a firmware will make it go away.
No subtitle support (did know that) but should be implemented with a firmware upgrade.
DVD+RW is sometimes not readable. Reinsert and then it works mostly.
DVD rom drive looks indeed cheap.
Great menu structure, and beautiful design.
Audio gives sometimes noise of the dvdromplayer. But that might be my cheap audio cables.
Overall: it works mostly correctly, but hopefully all the problems will be solved at next firmware upgrade

Strange faults with some divx/xvid movies. Sometimes blurry images. They play well on 6000 but not on 6600???
Others play good, but overall image quality is lower than 6000.
DVD+R Bulkpac don't work, DVD+R TDK work. Multisession doesn't work.
DVD+RW Philips work, but sometimes the movie just pauses because of dvdromdrive??? in 6600. Crap dvdromplayer (not comparable with 6000) and looks very cheap.
Qpel gives sometimes shocky image.
Movie in divxpro plays shocky.
No subtitle support!!!
I hope that next firmware will fix this, because right now it feels like I bought crap. I wish I didn't sell my 6000. |
