| Wow - this antique works with Dual Layer. Seems to skip out about 5 minutes when it switches between layers (i.e. about an hour into the film), but otherwise it seems hitch free. Looks like I can remain a Luddite a little longer! |

Played burned DVDs from a friend of mine, but none of my own tries (first with a TEAC DV-W58G, now, because I thougt it was the burner with a LG 4081B).
I upgraded the firmware as suggested in the comments above, but know it reads no media any more, even original manufactured / pressed DVDs i have at home.
So I would say the Player is damaged know and is going to be replaced later.
Anyone knows this Problem and can give me hints in recovering this player? Perhaps changing the DVD-Rom-Drive can solve the Problem?
Thanks in advance!

I have had this machine for about 8 months and it plays everthing nearly.
I will list what I have tested what works and does not.and some help issues.
DVD Region 1/2 yes never had a problem at all.
DVD-R Majority ok
Ritek -R Code:DV371 White fronts 4x speed all work Never had a problem.
Bulkpac -R Code:DV353 Tango 4x speed 50/50 its weird I have burned various films to test and it seems to be the recording speed when burning.
4x 50/50
2x 75/25
1x 100% ok So if your going to use Bulkpac reduce your recording speed. In addition to this I have had some films work and then applied Labels.
Some work ok some dont You know the usual Freezing pixals and all that 15 mins into the film and twenty mins from the end.I'm not sure about this but if in doubt leave labels off.
CMC -R unbranded Code: DV395 4x speed tried 4 of these all successfull.
Datasafe Ritek -R Code: DV329 2x speed all ok
Bulkpac -R Green Code :DV328 2x speed 50/50 more work than dont could have been a bad batch.
Arita DVD-RW Code:DV369 2x speed tried 10 all ok.
Traxdata 4xspeed silver black tops -R upto press these are very good the quality is brill tried and tested 8 with no problems.
Traxdata 4x speed silver black tops DVD+R did not work at first went yamada site for firmware update
http://www.yamada.de/ftp/dvdplus_yamada.zip
This site will automatically download a Zip file containing 3 bins and 1 text.
download to a folder create a file for it then extract your zip file to that older.
Once that is done you need a CDR to burn all 4 to.
details of how to set up your burner are in the text file. but remember to burn all 4.
When complete simply put it into your Yamada player,it will tell you that it has recognised update.
Simply push your start button and it will do every thing else 2 mins CDR is ajected 1 min later Picture screen will go /black/fizzle.
You then turn off then on your Yamada thats it.
You can then play all DVD+R on it.
So apart from that little glitch DVD_+R RW are all ok in my opinion Ritek/Traxdata are the best for this machine.
Burned using
Smartripper 2.41
DVD Shring 3 Beta
Nero Buring Rom 5.5.10.54 Last version before V6.
No issues at all.
CD all ok
VCD tried 8 different types with no issues at all.
SVCD tried 4 films created by TMPG and DVD2SVCD all worked ok no problems.
Slideshow Mpeg Movies tried 3 and all played fine
DTS surround sound got mine plugged into a Sony Surround sound amplifyer and have never had any probs.
Picture Quality matches most if not better High end market players.
Sound Quality as above.
The only problem with this player and it is a small issue is the Zoom function it does not dissapear off the screen which is annoying at times.
Work around that issue by changing TV screen to cinema mode give you a bigger picture which cuts out having to use Zoom.
Rating 9.5/10 I would give it more If I could work out the Macrovision off button be it remote or firmware?
Overhaul this is a very good player and not a bad price too.
The only player that seems to be matching this at the moment is the Pacific 1002 w from Asda I have one but I'm still testing but upto press it seems to be a very good player too Priced at £42 Now thats not bad.
Hope this helps

Just a reply to this:
//
" only complaint is that when i put in a dvd that has subtitles these are automatically displayed and i have to switch them off from the remote - would be nice if there a fix for this so that they are off by default and can be switched on by the remote if i want them."
//
I have to say, I've had this problem with just 2 discs and it's important to stress that both discs play subtitles on my PC-DVD drive too, therefore I'm pretty sure the irritating feature is DVD/Disc related rather than hardware related.
I'd like to list the films it's happened with, but I can't remember. I think Gattaca was one of them.
Hope that helps...
- Martin. |

This great DVD player was unable to play movies with booktype DVD+R only with DVD-ROM. After downloading the new firmware from http://www.yamada.de/ftp/dvdplus_yamada.zip, writing the CD (with the 3 files from the ZIP archieve) and inserting into the player: I got an UNKNOWN DISK message. Writing 2 emails to UMAX and Yamada, today I received a new dvdplus_yamada.zip file. Unzipping this produces 4 files, the new FDVD2100.BIN is not in the downloadable ZIP. Writing a CD-RW with this 4 files, the upgrade made by the player, and now the DVD+R disks with booktype DVD+R works great. I suggested to UMAX to change the downloadable ZIP to this new one.
Now this is an outstanding cheap and great player with ZOOMING in and out(!) movies and JPGs too, playing VCD, SVCD mpegs, MP3, JPG files from even DVDs! Built in DTS decoder, however the manual says only DTS-ready! Superb slideshow with JPGs with any size. |

Unfortunately I never got to try the dvd player so personally I dont know how good it is.
Reason for this is, I twiced ordered this from eBuyer, twice it came damaged. Although the player looks good, the material quality is poor.
Both times, the top was dented,
Ive had to opt for a high street purchase of Alba DVD 119. Does everything I need (as listed on here as well). |

| Comments: |
Manual says R2 only, but it is multi-region from the box. There is remote hack anyway, but UMAX (distributer) definately leaves the YAMADA 2100 region-free when shipping in UK. Remote hack: Open, Zoom, A-B, Up, Left, Down, Right = "region free" displayed on screen.
Plays unauthored (and so assume authored) VCD and SVCD. Plays MP3 burnt 16x to Memorex CD and displays MP3 ID3 tag. Can display MP3 long file name but display limited to 16(?) characters (which is not enough for some tracks). Brother says it also plays MP3 burnt to DVD-R.
The original version of the YAMADA 2100 had a problem with the DTS flag... so DTS DVD's played OK but there was "popping" when playback on DD5.1. You only got the "popping" when connecting your speakers via the phono leads and listening to DD5.1. If you use an external amplifier you don't get any "popping". The newer release does not play DTS (via phono leads) but plays DD5.1 perfectly.
YAMADA 2100 doesn't show the color black very well... more like a dark grey. Looks terrible if you watch "The Matrix" (which everyone surely does!) and look at the agents suits.
Bought from ebuyer combined with surround sound speaker setup for about £110 delivered. The player itself can be bought for ~ £90 delivered.
YAMADA 2100 is nice and slim, which makes it easily fit on top of a VCR / Sky box in most shelving units. |

| This player is fantastic... Have backed up many DVD's using Sony DRU500a and BulkPaq x1, x2 & x4 media as well as Datawrite and Memorex. All played perfectly. It also played Region 1 and region 2 DVD's straight from the box. Bought to replace an older Pioneer DV-515(in its day, the pick of the bunch!), this m/c out performs it. Cracks, bangs and picture blocking experienced on the Pioneer just weren't there. £44.99 +VAT +P&P from ebuyer.com |

Although other reviews say that this player is compatible with most DVD-R, I have found this to be incorrect. I have tried two players now (took first one back). I have trouble with picture glitching (goes black for a few frames), audio synch goes crazy, and sometimes the menus don't work. These are on DVD-R's that have tested OK on other machines. Also on some discs, the drive mechanism is very noisy. Bulkpaq discs seem to be the worst (purple & orange), but I have also seen problems with datawrie red.
Only seems to play certain MP3's (not yet worked out what the compatibility issue is yet).
Two good points though, JPG viewing is excellent, so far has worked with over 200 of my JPG's, not one problem. Also plays any MPEG file from a CD-ROM (doesn't have to be VCD compliant). I imagine this would also work from a DVD-ROM.
Personally I would recommend the accoustic solutions DVD-421, which has played every DVD-R I've shuffed in it, with no problems. |
