CVD? $200 3 days 6 of 10 Comments: Only had it a few days. Region freed it eventually. Records beautifully to DVD-R. Inputs are great. I have a VCR, STB, VidCam hooked up & all work. Response from Remote a bit slow sometimes, and occassionally it will Freeze altogether & require a re=boot. Usually when something new is plugged in. Menu & Setup was a cinch. For the price, I love it. Wife was apprehensive & wanted a Pioneer or Panasonic, but good ole Wintal prevailed. Will post more updates as I actually use and test it.

CVD? $? 7 days 7 of 10 DivX XviD Chipset: LSI Logic DMN?? Comments: An update - I received another unit that so far is working well. Still some trouble reading older DivX files that do work on another DVD player I have. MPEG 2 files converted to DivX 5 work fine. The USB function works well, I can even plug the i-pod nano into it and play through the sound system. The i-pod will charge from it too which is handy. The quality of the recording on SP is very good - as good as the SD tuner I record from. Haven't tried EP yet but I'd say it too would be good. Happy with it now - shame it took three goes to get it right. (bad luck?)

CVD? $175 7 days 2 of 10 DivX Comments: Have tried two of these recorders. It's list of features is impressive but I have had to return both of them. The first had trouble acknowledging Divx files or MPEG2 files burnt as data. Once the firmware was updated it did acknowledge them and MPEG2 files played fine. However, it only played Divx 5.0 files, no earlier versions. This was not the problem though, although it appeared to record OK it would only play back the first 15 mins and then freeze. I tried three times with the same result. So I sent it back and it was replaced with a new one. With this one the disc-tray will not open at all so I can't get past first base. Shame really, it looks great on paper but obviously the quality is poor.
