CVD? $? over 1 year 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: This was the first player i bought nearly 5 years ago. Have never had any problems with pressed dvds, and played every vcd/svcd i threw at it. However, it would only play the occassional dvd backup until now. Am using xp with nero 6, dvd shrink 3.1 and bulkpaq (x4) dvd+r and have not got one coaster yet. Dont know if its the player or the authoring but even though its 3 times bigger than every other player, i wont be throwing it out just yet.

DVD-RW do not work.

MP3 WMA CVD $? over 1 year No rating JPG/JPEG DivX MPEGISO Comments: Extra info about this player I've found out since I last posted: It'll plays 16:9 SVCDs with no problems. Plays CVD too. Cannot cope with VCDs that have invalid stream encoding; it tries but playback is choppy. Therefore you must always remember to select a VCD compliant stream when muliplexing. My player is getting old now, recently noticed it starting to struggle reading some CD-Rs, towards the end of the discs. Really strange quirk this; it'll play a DVD+R fine straight from power on, however if the player has been previously playing a pressed DVD then the same DVD+R suffers from glitchy playback!

Same story with CD-RW. Unfortunately won't play a SVCD thats been header patched onto a DVD (Plays back with split screen). Won't playback a VCD on a DVD (huge pixelation). Plays DVD+R ARITA pink X4. Won't play DVD+RW ricoh dyes DVD-R no luck DVDs burned on a Lite-on ldw-811s using Nero CDs burned on a Artec WRR-52z Good for a very old budget player

Ritek purple top 4x DVD+R (www.dvd-recordable.org branded) burnt with nero and pioneer 106 at 4x I have the original dvd 750 (I bought it when it first came out for £180 from Tescos- so it is early firmware) I did burn some coasters that wouldn't play on any player, even pioneer 106, I don't know why.

Here are results to date: DVD+R Memorex 4x - Works!!!! DVD+RW One v2 (by Datasafe) - Dont Work :( DVD-R Bulkpaq(G4 - Orange) - Dont Work :( I will post more results when tested more, but Memorex +R definatly works. I imagine most +R's work, and apparently only a few if any -R's work (Ritek G4?? - testing later). No +/-RW's work. SVCD's and VCD's work when binna are extracted and burnt with VCDEasy.

CVD? $50 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I actually got this player for £30 from a dealer, with 12 months warranty (yes, £30, less than $50!!). It's been out of production for ages apparently and this one is supposed to be a factory refurb unit, but I wouldn't have known. My other player is the ubiquitous and much cloned Dansai 852, and this big old box knocks it sideways. It has played every type of DVD-R media I have thrown at it, from Samsung BeAll to cheap, nasty Aladin media I payed 40 pence/disc for, plus every VCD/SVCD I have. The picture quality is superior to the Dansai - it doesn't lose sync on my TV with very bright/white pictures the way the Dansai does. NTSC to PAL conversion is also much smoother. As others have reported, the 750S is supposed to be based on a Sony design, and it has some classy touches missing in other cheapo players. The unit drops into standby automatically after a while if not used (no naff 'screensavers'), and the SCART output is switched off completely on standby rather than just blanked, so no need to manually re-select another source or switch it off completely. The sound quality is superior to the Dansai too with better channel separation. The only criticism I would level compared to other players I have used is it takes a little longer to load and recognise discs, but it hasn't failed with one yet. If you can pick one up at this price don't hesitate - it is so much better quality in build and performance to every other bargain-basement player.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I love this big 'ole black brick - so I was determined to get it to play DVD-R's... IT DOES. My other DVD Player - the Pioneer 1000, is a virtual clone of the 750 (I have one of the first 750's - NOT the 750s) It'll play a DVD-R - but ensure it is SILVER COATED on the read side. It doesn't appear to like other colours. Try it - may have just dropped lucky.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Here are my findings for the original 750: VCDs - play fine even when burnt with Nero. SVCDs - only work when authored and burnt with vcdeasy. DVD-Rs - 4th Generation Riteks are the only DVD-R that seem to work with this player. The following definitely dont load: RITEK G03, Datasafe yellow tops and Bulqpaq Green Tops.

N/A No rating MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I bought this 750S from Richer Sounds for £60as I got a £10 Gold Scart thrown in. I found I couldn't get the DVD+RW's to work but after playing a CDR full of MP3's it worked fine so seems a bit dodgy. If you stop it completely I find I have to load up the MP3 disk again before it will recognise the DVD. Bit of a pain but worth it. I have mine set to PAL60 permanently as not having a NTSC compatible TV it playes black n white or set to Pal50 it is jerky.

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: (Wharfedale 750S not original 750) It has played any brand of CD-R or CD-RW I have ever put in it. This includes cheap unbranded discs. I have played MP3 and hundreds of PAL/NTSC VCDs without any problems. It plays SVCDs although I have only ever played a few of those. So far it plays the following DVD-Rs : Datawrite Classic (Grey Top) x2 Samsung BeALL (Silver Top) x2 However, DVD-R discs only worked if the disc contained a certain amount of data. This appears to be in the region of 4Gb. Discs I created below 3Gb were not recognised by the player for some reason. Used Nero 5.5.10 and Ulead DVD Workshop to create the DVDs. I have tried Packard Bell x1 DVD-RW and Datawrite x1 DVD-RW without success in this player although other users seem to suggest that it may be worth experimenting with some other brands. --------------------- www.matthawkins.co.uk Crazy Amateur Film Making

Seems to play everything else but DVD-Rs.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: This review relates to the 750s. I have played DVD-R and DVD-RW on this machine with few problems. It has played nearly everything I have tried although it is fussy about DVD-RWs. It doesn't recognise discs if they are less than half full. The way around this is to fill the RW disc and then erase it. After this the disc plays fine no matter how much data is on it. Overall this is a very good value machine.

Just tested DVD+R and DVD+RW, DVD+R works with no problems burned on Ritek printable professional disc however the DVD+RW burned on Traxdata wasn't even recognised as a bad disc.No disc was reported. I also tested with DVD-RW Datasafe worked like a dream.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Bought this player from Tescos when they first came out and later updated chip to cope with RCE. A bargain at the time and a great player , rate 10. However this is now an old player and i can 100% confirm this unit does not play DVD - R, nor MP3. The 750s may be different but the original 750 does not. Hence the 5 rating. Anyone got a DVD + R to play on an early model of this player ?

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I absolutely love this DVD player - thanks to Tescos for selling them cheap over 2 years ago! I've got jealous friends with expensive brand name players which can't read the CDs/VCDs/DVD/MP3s that this can! NB It took me a while to find out how to get DVD+R o work - you have to change the compatibility bitsetting (from DVD+R to DVD-ROM).(http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html#pc) - if you don't then the DVD gets 'stuck' in the menu. I use a RICOH MP5125A DVD writer (firmware v1.38) with DataWrite DVD+Rs (about £1.50 each). I've tried to get it to work with DVD+RW disks, but all I get is "Bad Disk" on the player. I'll let you know if I manager to fix this ...
