CVD? $? over 1 year 9 of 10 DivX Comments: has worked with all the media I have tried the dvd-r media I used was Verbatim Datalife. Worked everytime I have tried them.

N/A No rating Comments: Tried both Princo DVD-R and Imation DVD+R burned with MSI DR4-A burner and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 software. DVD-R read some data but displayed only garbled images on the screen. DVD+R worked fine. Did not fiddle with compatibility bitsettings, though.

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: This darn thing WILL NOT read a DVD+RW made with the NEC 1100A DVD recorder. Forget the bitsetting. I tried multiple types of media. The darn thing will not take a SVCD. The drawer opens and closes with glacial SLOWNESS and the remote really is bad news. If you buy the unit you will come to learn new swear words. I did not go any further in testing. What a pig of a unit. I really hope to find something better. I gave it a 3 because it has not broken down, although I sort of wish it would so I could really feel good about chucking it.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Good reliable DVD player. My friends bought cheap-o players and returned them several times. $200 is reasonable for a 5 disk player. Component, S-Video, and composite outputs. I would have rated it a 10 but there were two draw backs: 1) trying to switch from DVD slot 1 to slot 4 required pushing "disk skip" 3 times (the manual says you can get around this by pushing some buttons simultaneously but that is B.S.) and 2) it won't play SVCD's. Outside of that, it's a great player. Clean picture, easy to use, loads of features.

N/A No rating Comments: Tested with DVD burned on a TDK 420N. Both DVD+R & DVD+RW worked fine. DVD+R was Imation and DVD+RW was HP brand.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I'm not sure if it plays VBR mp3s or not, but it plays CBR mp3s with no problem, including from CD-RW discs (the manual advises not to use CD-RW discs for mp3s). The first 14 characters of the file name are displayed on screen. I have experienced choppy audio with VCD's a lot, however this can usually be cured by either pausing for a second, or playing in slow motion for a second, and then resuming normal playback. I've used TMPGEnc for encoding, and various programs for writing the disc (Nero, Roxio Easy CD Creator, and NTI CD Maker or something like that). Picture and sound quality appear good, but I don't have the best TV so I can only give limited information here. One annoying thing is the delay between switching discs, and the remote won't let you go directly to the desired disc, instead you have to cycle through the discs (and wait every time for the player to switch and read the disc first before going to the next). The remote itself isn't great either. Actual playback of DVDs is flawless as long as the disc isn't badly scratched or smudged, which in my opinion outweighs all other aspects of a DVD player. We've had this player for almost a year, and except for a slight (less than a second) pause I noticed once, I can never tell when there's a layer change. Overall a pretty decent player.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: When looking at DVD players I hadn't even really heard of (S)VCDs, so it didn't enter my search parameters. I got this one for free, so the price was right. It plays DVDs/CDs/MP3s/VCDs really well. The limitation on the VCDs and SVCDs is the bitrate/resolution. I ran a test with multiple resolutions and bitrates. I could not get standard VCD resolution to run bitrates over the standard 1150 kbs. I could not get standard SVCD resolution to run at 1150 kbs, but it would run at lower rates. I believe the limitation on the SVCD is the resolution and the rates not MPEG-2. I was able to see MPEG-2 on the screen, but it was really choppy due to the higher bit rates and resolution.

CVD? $200 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: After long hours and several different attempts, I can not get this unit to play SVCDs. It plays VCDs okay, but sometimes it skips frames or the audio gets choppy.

CVD? $229 N/A 8 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: I use Record Now DX software and Pioneer DVD-RW Burner to make my VCD's and they work perfectly. Maybe they work so well cause I have created the files with TMPGEnc software. My MP3 discs work very nicely..just dont use random cause it repeats on you too often. So far I have not successfully burned an actual DVD yet. DVDit produced proper DVDs that work in my old RCA (which doesnt play CDr). I have drag & dropped VOB files ripped to my hardrive to make a data disc in my RcordNow DX and though I have placed them in proper order in the VIDEO_TS folder the player only seems to play the menu and the first play (logo). When I play cd's or cd-r on shuffle the closest to true random on the player is that it will play 2 files on a disc and then move to the next to play 2 more and so on and so on.... chuck http://www.chuckandgeorge.net

CVD? $229 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Plays VCD's made with "Nero Burning Rom" perfectly. It did not like my VCD's made with EZ-CD - which is fine because EZ-CD is garbage. If burned with NERO, VCD's play fine on Office Depot CD/R and Memorex CD/R (only tried those two brands so far). The only complaint is that it will not scan when playing MP3's - that is, it will allow you to go from track to track, but not fast forward through the track.

CVD? $299 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Work great. Have had a bunch of tests and everything works nice except for Burned VCD's. (If you get them working please let me know) Cannot get Burned VCD's to work. (Purchased VCD's work great) I have Tried a 74Min CD in CD-CDDA format and it still doesn't work. If you know how to get this working please let me know.

CVD? $299 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Burn your MP3 files to CD using Adaptec CD Creator 5 (there is an MP3 option) and it will work with no problem. I use Ulead "Movie Factory" to create DVDs with my CD-R/W burner, works great! WAV files work too. The only problem I had is playing MP3 or WAV files as background music for my DVD menus, comes up choppy.

CVD? $299 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Regarding Mp3 playback, unit will not play Mp3 file if it contains an ID3v2 tag (pre-data attachment), this is standard for Mp3 files generated by iTunes. Unit only plays files with no tag or, ID3v1 tag (post-data attachment). Other than that, it's a good, well built machine.

CVD? $299 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: For some reason, AVEX DVD players play my VCD's fine, but this unit does not...the sound is muffled and the video is choppy, like it only shows me 5 frames and then leaves 5 frames. But it did play my store bought VCD's just fine.
