I got this player from comet for £30 to replace my ailing Philips DVP520 (it wasn't that hot to begin with anyway since I ended up with more bugs in that player then there was days in the week) and even though I've only had this player for one day I'm more then impressed in the improvements the player made over my last unit which had problems with certain pressed (not recorded) discs.

This player can handle any recorded disc that I've currently thrown at it including the Aone dual layered discs which is seems only I have had no problems burning with (although it does sound like there's a mouse in the drive when it's seeking with a dual layered recordable disc inserted).

The only beef I have about this player (apart from the bugs I'm still getting with the his and her circumstances discs) is the lack of a inbuilt equaliser which just means that I have to adjust the main volume to compensate (although I haven't yet checked how it handles layer hand off's on dual layered PTP discs which was a problem that plagued the philips DVP520)

Comments:
+ Video and Audio (though overall volume is a bit low) very good for a budget player
+ plays all discs coming its way...
+ Nice Look and Interface

- Cheap looking remote control
- It was hard to find a way to make it region free, but I finally found out what chipset (Zoran Vaddis 966) it has (more or less by accidently pressing 000 with no disc in tray) and after a few more hours of searching hacks for other players with this chipset I found a solution (and posted it as a hack on this very website)

All in all this is a cheap player with a lot of benefits and I have fun using it every single time... :)

Comments:
I bought the Toshiba SD-270ekb player from Novatech for £40 delivered. It has worked well with my DivX and Xvid files and VCDs. Picture and sound quality is very good. Playing standard DVDs it is also good especially bearing in mind the price. Has played all makes of burned discs I have, which includes Sony TDK Ritek Datawrite Verbatim BulkPak Maxell etc as well as Tesco's own brands.

Overall I am very pleased with the player.
