When playing SVCD I was experiencing sync problems between audio and video. I found that the solution suggested in avforums.com for the Toshiba SD220 works perfectly for the SD2650 too.
That is to press the angle button twice, ie: switch audio1, audio2, and back to audio1. |

This Toshiba player seems to have handled any CD-R I've thrown at it. I've created a number of VCDs and SVCDs.
Region coding restrictions are removed from this player by the distributor in Australia, I believe, and I've had no trouble playing discs from different regions. I am unsure what this player's model number is equivalent to in terms of model numbers elsewhere in the world, because I couldn't find a reference to it on the Toshiba site.
I just got a DVD burner (Sony DRU-500A) and the Toshiba player worked fine with the sample DVD+RW (Sony) that was included with the burner, for video. Its supposed to be compatible with DVD-R also based on user manual.

I find my Multi Region Toshiba SD-2650 great.
So far it has played everything I have put into it.
Without fault
The instructions dont say anything about playing SVCD
But it DOES play them. (I was also told this from Toshiba service).
The zoom function does not function during SVCD Playback
The main reason I purchased this model Toshiba is it's DVD zoom function.
You can zoom and get rid of those dreaded black bars completely.
It has full function Menus & Chapters.
The picture and sound is great even on my SVCD's
I use Verbatim cd/r and GoTech cd/rw
I use DVD2SVCD & Nero for SVCD's
I use Mp3Cd Maker to convert my mp3's
I recommend this player to anyone in
Australia (where it is availiable)
I do not as yet have a dvd burner so I can not comment on its dvd/r playback. Although I know it does run dvd/r
