N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Toshiba makes great DVD players. This player was NOT "supposed" to play VCDs... refer to your manuals guys. Personally I never used the neuon technology, but it sounds great for those who were able to find games. We recently got DVD-R backup disks to workin it. YES... DVD - R. I have yet to try the + disks... but an above post does mention they work too. I havent tried yet. The main complaint I have about this unit is the remote is way too big, and the lack of VCD ability. Otherwise the quality, and features are great for the price.

N/A No rating MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I read the other posts about this unit before I tried my own tests. I used an Emprex DVD+/-RW drive with Memorex DVD-R (purple color disc) and it played Pirates of Caribbean perfectly with DVDXcopy. It would not play any kind of CD-R music discs. I will try +R media soon and report back. So far without VCD support (I have a GE 1106P for that) it hasn't made me regret getting this unit.

MP3 WMA CVD? $150 N/A 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: In it's time, this was (and still is) a great player. This was the precursor to PS2 and XBox. I don't know where you people got your info from. Toshiba's web-site has never said anything about VCD capabilities. Check the manual that came with it. It also says that it does not play CD-R's. I, however, found a CD-R that works quite well. TDK Data CD-R 80min/700mb. These work great for music on the SD-2300. I use Acoustica mp3 CD burner to burn the discs. Nuon is an awesome feature. VM Labs, unfortunately went out of business. Games that I have for it: Merlin racing, Next Tetris, Tempest 3000. Planet of the Apes (2000) and a few other movies are Nuon enhanced. Anyway, My SD-2300 has delivered ALL it has ever promised. I have had it for over two years now with absolutely no problems. Great player!!!

N/A No rating Comments: I burned a DVD+RW with my Sony DRU-500A and it did not play in the Toshiba 2300. My dad burned some DVD-R on his MAC and they work fine with menus and including video and slide show. I have some DVD+R so I will try that next. If this doesn't work I'm buying the Sony 715

The NUON features are cool, endless zoom, slow motion, ffwd times 3, games similar to PS1 or N64 and N64-styled controllers. I have only seen one, yes, one game for the player, it's called "merlin racing". It is obviously a direct rob from nintendo's "super mario cart" for N64. The look of the casing goes well with even the most expensive home theatre system and setup. In the 2300's glory days, it was a great player. It seems to be Toshiba's first attempt at a high-end player. I don't think that they invisioned the future discarding VHS tapes. I'm not sure that they knew the popularity DVD would take in the near future or which technology would be available soon (CD writing drives that are affordable, VCD technology, etc.)

N/A 6 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: This is an okay player for just DVD, but has no capability for VCD, etc. Also, sometimes it locks up while playing regular CDs and must be unplugged to reset.

It's awesome cause we couldn't get it to work anyother way. DVD+R works not DVD-R, there is a difference

CVD? $150 N/A 2 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: Have had this player for a year - now it doesn't work half the time and I have to move the DVD over to my XBOX to finish it. Piece of crap, won't even play VCD. The nuon features are nice, but honestly who ever zooms. I just want to watch movies and SVCDs. Avoid this one.

CVD? $150 N/A 3 of 10 Comments: This unit was supposed to have VCD capability, but it does not. Menu navigation with the remote control is VERY SLOW which will drive you nuts after a while. Some rental disks will occaisonally hang on me with a "disk error" - the only way to get past the error was to restart the movie and skip ahead beyond the problematic chapter (missing that part of the movie)- the same disk would play fine in my computer's DVD reader. The "NUON" feature is supposed make it able to play some kind of games, but I have never seen or heard of any games ever available for it. I "Upgraded" to a DAEWOO DVG-3000N (for about $50 less!) and am much happier now. The Daewoo has fast menu navigation plus CDR, CDRW, MP3, VCD and SVCD all work great.

CVD? $198 N/A 6 of 10 Comments: I loved the player as a DVD player, and the Nuon features are cool, if ultimately not a big impact on movie-watching itself. VERY disappointed that Toshiba left out such a standard feature as VCD-compatibility, given that I found CD-R/RW media that worked (Memorex Platinum CD-RW and some generic light green layer CD-Rs that I had worked perfectly for audio CDs). To make things more irritating, the compatibility guide on the Toshiba web site says it does play VCD. Toshiba's user support only offered up disclaimers when I pointed this out. I cheerfully traded it in for a Pioneer DV-434...ultimately, VCD/SVCD compatibility trumps Nuon.
