DVD+R discs that are not bitset (set to DVD+R media) will immediately error when put into the machine.

CVD? $? over 1 year 9 of 10 Comments: Seems I got lucky and was able to play burned VCDs on CD-R media the first time I tried (even before I found this compatibility list). The only brand of CD-Rs that will play in this player is a brand called Cursor. DVD+R works flawlessly with Memorex 4x.

After trying several combinations, this worked: VCD on Memorex CDRW, using Nero Burning ROM version 5.5 OEM with latest update/patch, in a Plextor 8/4/32 burner, and setting PBC to "OFF" in the Toshiba SD2200 setup menu.

However, it doesn't play CD-R, I tried DVD+R (TDK/Richon) using NEC 2500A, doesn't work. with bitsetting on LiteOn811, it worked. DVD-R, memorex(CMC) worked.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: This player was not designed for any burned media, so if if you can get it to play any thats a bonus. I got it to play vcd's on cdrw media but not cd-r. Svcd not at all. Verbatim data life plus +r would'nt work, trying -r later. As for playing manufactured discs I can't praise this enough. I've had it for 3 years now and it hasn't given me one problem.

CVD? $200 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Great for playing rentals but when I recently tried a DVD R+ in the machine, it would not read it, yet my PS2 reads it fine. Don't understand how others have had sucess. Also, will only accept VCD's on CDRW media.

N/A No rating Comments: I bought HP DVD writer dvd300i and have been desparately trying to burn my home video connecting thru firewire 1394 onto HP dvd+rw disk supplied with the box. I have Toshiba SD-2200 DVD player which is working very well for rented dvd movies. When I try to play the disk on my DVD player (although it plays on the computers dvd-rom), I am getting a disk error. I read some reviews about the compatibility of the HP writer with Toshiba SD2200 and also tried the compatibility bit settings for the HP burner. I have tried the drive setting and disk setting options with different permutations & combinations i.e. 1-1, 1-2,2-1,2-2 but I still get disk error. If anyone out there who succeeded in playback please suggest me what additional settings I need to do to make it work.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I finally got my burned DVD+R movie to work at this SD-2200 player!! DVD+R/W drive: OEM NEC ND-1100A with new firmware upgrade available from Dell. Media: Memorex 4X DVD+R. DVD software: DVDShrink Burning Software: Nero 6.0.0.0 I tried using DVD+RW. It did not work. But I'm really happy that DVD+R works! No bitsetting needed!

Plays DVD+R video - I've been using an HP300i with HP compatibility tool and Imation DVD+R discs. Overall very good player but without the newer features.

N/A 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 DivX MPEGISO DVD-RAM Comments: Wanted to add that I have gotten Princo silver-blue cd-r's to work (the ones I got were rated 48x, I burned at 32x). NO other cd-r's, including Fuji spirals and Circuit City Riteks have work. Even the Princos will produce disk errors sometimes--you need to power off and on until it accepts. Also, I've tested XVCD playback more and it is very good--no stuttering, using high bitrates w/VBR, 352x240. I tried various non-standard resolutions e.g. 352x480--they don't display correctly. Also, 24fps does not look very good--best to encode at 29.97, even w/film content. Again, all cd-rw's I've tried have worked at 4x and 10x. I burn w/Nero 5.5xxxx--the menu it produces for x/vcd's displays correctly (vcd menus are not interactive). Nero's vcd "slideshow" works as well--possible to get high-res images (w/out audio, however). I've had the opportunity to compare the picture and sound to a few other players--this is a very high quality player, just lacks a lot of features that are now becoming standard.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: It worked fine with Fuji brand DVD-R using RecordNow Max v4.50 and Maxwell brand CD-RW (640 MB)using Nero Ultra v6.0.0.15 (Cannot read if burned with DVD X Copy). However, I cannot get it to work at all with either DVD+/-RW, DVD+R, or CD-R.

N/A No rating Comments: Wanted to add this comment. I have sucessfully had DVD+R playback on this recorded. The key is the same as DVD+RW. The compatibility mode has to be set to DVD-ROM. If the mode is left at DVD+R or DVD+RW you always get a check disk error.

CVD? $250 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Bought this DVD player back in November 2000 for $250 and it worked fine for a while until it crapped out in early 2001 after playing some anime VCDs. Since then, I have played nothing but normal DVDs to avoid any further problems until now. I burned a 12 minute video to a Verbatim DVD-RW 1X (Part # 94078) and was surprised to see that this old, reconditioned Toshiba was able to play it on the first try. I used Ulead Video Studio 7 SE for authoring and Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 SE for burning.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Media: Piodata 4x DVD-R DVD-Burner: Pioneer DVR-105 / A05 Application: Nero 5.5 DVD Player: Toshiba SD2200 I've had this DVD player for a few years now. All I can say is that it has never let me down. Picture quality (using component video) is excellent, no skips or any other anomolies. I use the optical output to my receiver so that I can enjoy DTS movies with the built-in decoder and a supporting receiver. The 2 disc tray is nice, especially since a lot of movies coming out are multi-disc (for extra features, etc). DVD-R worked flawlessly the first time using Piodata 4x DVD-R media (an OEM brand by Pioneer). I have not tried DVD-RW yet. DVD+R(W) is not supported on this drive from what I've read. CD-R VCDs I could not get to work at all. CD-RW VCDs I did have success with, using Maxell and TDK media (don't remember which specific models).

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I bought this player from a video store before it hit the shelves (fresh off the truck). The player plays great and I've never had any problems with it. I'm burning back-ups of my vast movie collection with a Pioneer DVR A05 DVD-RW burner. DVD-R's work like a dream (100% NO COASTERS) but it cannot play DVD-RW's. I tried some generic CDRs when I first got the player without success but I didn't try any further cause I have stand alone CD Players anyways. If the SD2200 could play MP3/CDR/CDRW/DVDRW's etc., like modern DVD players, I would have given it a 10 out of 10. I won't give it up unless it explodes or a much superior generation of DVD players comes along.
