CVD? $200 over 1 year 4 of 10 Comments: it plays every burned AUDIO disc i've put in it, i have tried a couple of burned DVD's but they didnt play...still experimenting...had this players for over 4years though and i no longer have the remote, so i have lost quite a bit of functionality..sometimes it skips and lags even with a commercial disc of any kind...

CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: Backed-up a movie on a Fujifilm DVD+RW and a Fujifilm DVD+R. The player played the DVD+R, but not the DVD+RW. Burned using Nero 6.0.0.9 at 4x and authored using DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6. The discs came in a package of 4 DVD+R and 1 DVD+RW. Noticed that the DVD+R's say "Made in Taiwan," but the DVD+RW says "Made in Japan." Maybe the Taiwanese know something about this player.:)

Backed up two movies, one on DVD+R and one on DVD-R using 321Studio's DVD X Copy Xpress, a Sony DVD burner (DRU510A), and Fujifilm media. The DVD+R did not work. However, the DVD-R did work.

DVDShrink main ripping program and Nero main writing program.

Authored 3 DVD+R on HP & Verbatim media, NOTHING played all the way through without stalling out or skipping. Same deal with an HP DVD+RW disc (all authored on an HP 200i drive with new firmware).

N/A No rating Comments: I have burned several types of DVD+RW with my HP Pavilion 100i burner adn tehy are readable on my Philips 724 but in the Topshiba SD1700 I get "DISK ERROR" message and it rejects the disk. This Toshiba 1700 was purchased in late 2001.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I love this player. It might not play all my CDR's but the Picture with s-video and my flat is SUPURB. I dont know why people talk negativily on this. Sure all my cdrs dont play in it but most due if i use this one brand. I use HP 16x cdr's These are made in Japan and are rebadged Taiyo Yudens which are the best cdrs in the world. Each one is perfect. Mine also play DVD+R's even though i tested one. I burned a dvd using my hp 200e onto a FujiFilm DVD and it plays perfectly. Not one problem. If you look around its downsides even though mine plays fine with burned stuff you really come out with a GREAT inexpensive dvd player that when hooked up to a ht system or stereo ROCKS. I mean mine is hooked up to my $200 system and it is unbelivable. People are in awe when they see it. I reallt recommend this since its CHEAP, and great quality

CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Yes, yes. I miss be able to play my Anime VCD's. I'll have to get another one to put in the bedroom that plays them, but I was going to get one for in there anyway. This DVD player, though, has gorgeous sound and playback. (It's hooked up to a really good RCA TV though-you're not going to get good sound if it's a crappy TV, of course). I don't even need an amp-the TV requires a S-Vidoeo cord, (VCR plugs into separate jacks on TV) and the speakers are hooked directly into the TV and voila'!!! Sounds are bouncing all around the room and behind by head and under my feet....the picture is flawless too. I'm almost ashamed to say that easily 1/3 of my paycheck goes to my growing collection of DVD's-screw the videos. I mean, isn't that what DVD players are really for anyway? For us obsessive movie fanatics who must make their living room into a mini-copy of theaters-minus the gum? Extra features are very nice too, but if you have more than one room chances are you'll need more than one TV/DVD anyway! But if you want one that does EVERYTHING....uh...nevermind....

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: No problems for regular DVD use but I went on the Toshiba website and it states "DVD/CD/DVD-R Compatible Playback". Big problem since I came to this website and saw that it plays CD-RW and ran out to the store at midnight to get some for a x-mas slideshow gift I worked on for 3 hours, just to have it not work.

CVD? $125 N/A 1 of 10 Comments: I was not able to test this peice of crap. I bought this DVD player when it first came out. Of course the power pack went out about 3 months after I purchased it. So I called Toshiba and they said that I had to bring it to Best Buy. So I brought all the info that Toshiba gave me and Brought it to Best Buy to have it Fixed. Best Buy was not happy to see me because I did not buy the machine from them. So after about 2 months of Best Buy loosing my Warenty info, then loosing the Machine, then sending it to the wrong department, I got the machine back (still not fixed) It turns out that the power supply went out on it. Again this was around 3 months after I bought it. So I called Toshiba and asked them if I could bring it somwhere else to have it fixed and they would not do it. They said Best Buy was the only repair shop in my area. Being that Best Buy is a bunch of incomps, so to this day it still sits on a shelf not working. I will never buy another Toshiba product again. As far as the machine itself goes it was never that nice and was over priced. Buy at your own risk!!

It has been able to read with no problem all DVD+RW and DVD+R I've tested (burned on a Philips DVDRW228 drive) OK Using Philips Media DVD+R/RW and Verbatim DVD+R Media

N/A No rating Comments: I authored and burned a school performance master and duplicated it onto DVD +R media that this player was not able to read. The media read in numerous other players. The Toshiba SD-1700, SD-K610 and SD-2750 models are the only units fo far not to read this media burned to the DVD-video specification.

CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I have been unsuccessful with both DVD-R and DVD-RW media with this player. The discs worked on other players, however. I did use cheap media, but I do not know if that was the problem or not. I used a Pioneer 104 DVD-R/RW burner, Smartripper, IFOedit, and Nero burning. I have been successful with all movies I have tried, but not with this player. I bought the Apex AD-1100W, and it is great. Feel free to send any questions.

N/A 7 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: yea i don't think it supports black cd-rs, i bought some black cd-rs today and it doesn't even try to read it,it just gives me errors i can put in cd-rw (blue layer) and it will at least look at disc, then give me error, but with the black ones it doesn't look at them at all. :(

CVD? $129 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I'm not sure what everyone is talking about. My Toshiba SD-1700 plays DVD's, all audio Cd's and my VCD's or MPeg-1's that I've burned using Ulead Video Studio 4.0 and my CD-burner, which is a Dell. I haven't tried any other formats, but I've used PNY Black Diamond CD-R's for burning and these work fine. The quality is not going to be DVD quality or even MPEG-2 quality, because it's being burned as MPEG-1 or VCD. The quality is equivalent to some Movie Camera type movies, you know...reel to reel, but it sounds fine and looks fine on a decent TV (I also have a Toshiba). If you want to save your Video to CD for viewing on your DVD player, especially Analog video as oppossed to digital video, this one is fine!
