CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: It will play DVD+R if you set the book type to DVD-ROM while burning. I have only used Verbatim brand disks, various models (from older 2.4X to the latest 16X), but I am confident that any brand would work. I have used many different DVD-authoring software packages and they all work fine.

CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: my modified region sd-1200 has worked fine over the years, but suddenly, it froze and will not load either pressed/burned dvds, nor vcds, nothing. it just says "No disc". what could be the problem?...firmware is 1.5, the latest.

CVD? $150 over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: I bought this player in year 2000, cheap, and good at that time from futureshop. However, I lately discovered that it can't play cdr's. But after hacking the internet for a while, I purchased fujifilm 10 pk cdr and it worked greatly. However, by furthering analysis, it turns out that this dvd player only recognize taiyoyundi(not exactly spelled well :P) dyed cdr(fujifilm happened to be the one) so before trying cdr on this player, check out the dye by nero cd info. all cd-rw plays well on it, and dvd-rom are good too. however you should notice that when it comes to dual-layer dvd-disk, it'll freezes during layer-changing, and you have to press "play" to let it go. overall, I liked it, with color streem output(not many has it back in year 2000) picture quality is excellent.

CVD? $150 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Bought this unit few years back (before I even thought of DVD +/- R/W) Works great with regular DVD movies. Has extra setting to make "Blacker than Black" which makes movies look really deep and rich. Works with one Memorex DVD+RW and failed with one Memorex DVD+RW (both from the same box, strange). The working DVD+RW even worked after I added another chapter from different burn session (with different burner). Go figure. Failed with DVD+R. Period. Tried TDK 4X. Good player for DVD-Rom, but thinking about getting a new more modern player for DVD +/- RW. Give this unit to my nephews. :-)

N/A No rating Comments: I have had 3 DVD+R working on my 1200, two Fuji and one HP. All were burned on a HP DVD 200i with Nero 6 encoded by DVDShrink 3. Also all CD-RW's I have tried work for VCD as well.

Here are the list of brands that i tried and worked: -Sony -TDK -Fuji -Ritek 1x(g03) -Memorex(some, cause i think this media is crap) I have burned a ton of movies and bever had any problems playing on this player.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I have had this player since 2000. They dont make these any more. I have been very satisfied with this one. It plays the cd-rw bought in CompUSA, and if you are burning movies, try Nero. It encodes it in a format that is fully compatible. Now to more interesting issue of playing dvd media. I have only tried dvd-r and not tried dvd+r(w) or dvd-rw. I have tried 3 brands of dvd-r so far and it works on each one. The brands i tried were Memorex, Sony and CompUSA inhouse-built dvd-r. It worked in each one of them. They were all 1x. I have a Sony DRU500AX and use DVDXCOPYEXPRESS. Its awesome and for 1x media it takes 60-80 mins depending upon the movie from the time i insert the movie and take it out. No hassle of using multiple programs. so my recommendation would be this: use CompUSA brand 1x DVD-r (50 packs cost less than 1$ a dvd) way cheaper than any brand of dvd media in market. use DVDXcopyEXPRESS.

N/A No rating Comments: Wow this oldie machine played backedup copies of SWep1 and AI on Maxell 4x DVD+R from HP300i drive (NEC 1100A). Great job!...woohoo! took 45mins doh... dvdshrink->nero 6. 30mins for shrink (cause Hp300i read speed is so slow) 14mins for Nero6.

N/A No rating Comments: I read the reports of it working with +R DVDs. So I burned one with Philips +R media. No go. It just says disc error when I try it. The disc works in all 3 of my computers.

N/A No rating JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DVD-RAM Comments: I tried the FujiFilm 80min/700MB CD-R's to create VCD's like everyone has been posting on this forum and GUESS WHAT!?! It didn't work. Big surprise. Anyone who thinks that this player is 100% going to play something is out of their minds. I contacted Toshiba myself regarding this problem and they said that the SD-1200 was only designed to play DVD and CD formats. That's it. It only uses one laser, not a dual laser, so if anyone can get the SD-1200 to play CD-R's at all is just lucky. Toshiba also says that it may not even play DVD+R's or DVD-R's. It's trial and error with this machine. It's a decent player, but outdated and now it is time to upgrade.

The software I used was 1) dvd decrypter 2) Shrink2DVD and 3)COPYtoDVD. It does not work with Sony DVD+RW!! each movie took about 3 hours total from start to finish to backup.

N/A No rating Comments: WORKS with DVD+R!!! They need to update this website regarding this model. I have a NEC ND-1100a model. I burned TDK 4x DVD+R media. Backed up two movies on DVD+R and they played perfectly on my Toshiba SD-1200. The software I used was 1) dvd decryptor 2) DVD2ONE and 3)COPYtoDVD. each movie took about 50 minutes total from start to finish to backup.

N/A No rating Comments: I used the guide at http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2svcd.htm to convert an AVI file to an MPEG. Then, burned as a VCD using Nero onto an Imation CD-RW. My Toshiba SD1200 played the disc immediately.

Maxells do not work but I believe the Costco bulk pack TDK brand 80 min 700 MB "Data" CD-Rs do. I haven't burned one of those with my Sony CRX1611 yet to confirm. I've tried one written in another burner and it played fine.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Like many peoples reporting on this site I had given up a long time ago playing audio CD-R on the SD-1200. Until I read here that CD-RW could work. (I wrongly thought before that if CD-R would not work CD-RW would be even worst) An then yes CD-RW works. I had the following success: CD Audio burned with Maxell CD-RW 650MB plays ok VCD burned on Memorex CD-RW plays ok Yes it look like the more grey/silver the writable surface is the better it is for this player. To burn the VCD I used the excellent VCDEasy freeware with a MPEG1 VCD file as source. TML reported being able to make SVCD with this software and play them on the SD-1200. I have try several times with his advices and different tweaking but no success. Maybe the SD-1200 had different firmware version and mine is too old. It's a good player that give very good picture quality but I'm thinking about buying a more recent player to preview SVCD.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I've tried to burn a VCD using Ulead's DVD Picture Show 2 on Maxell CD-RW, Verbatim CD-RW and Verbatim CD-R. So far, i had no success. The DVD player always display "disc error". After reading this forum, I've tried opening and closing the tray a couple of times, but it did not catch.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: This DVD player plaxy DVD+RWs!!!!! I have tried DVD-R but with no success DVD+RW works for me with Sony DRX-500UL drive and Sonic MyDVD software. I used Sony DVD+RW discs. I also have a NEC 1100 DVD burner and it works with that too. No special settings, just captured and burned - it works every time!!!
