MP3 WMA CVD? $400 21 days 6 of 10 DVD-WMA DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename DivX XviD Comments: I had this player for about three weeks, hooked up to 32" HD LCD TV. I had it connected via component video. First off, the player does not come with HDMI cable so if you want to take a full advantage you'll have to spend more money on a cable. Toshiba went cheapo on accessories and supplied composite A/V cables only. I wonder if there are people out ther who buy and expensive HD DVD player only to hook it up via lowest quality A/V connection that does not even support HD playback? What the ****, Toshiba!?! Second, the DVD player will not play anything other than properly formated (HD-)DVD's and CD's -- so no MP3, WMA, (S)VCD, or DivX. So You will still need to have an extra player if you want to play anything other than proper (HD-)DVD's and CD's. For a player that costs this much, I would exprect universal, or near universal, playback support. Again, what the ****, Toshiba!?! Third, the player WIL NOT UPCONVERT regular DVD's over compoonent video -- not, that is, for as long as they are oringinal DVD's (it will if you rip them and burn them onto DVD-R media). So, again, you'd need to get HDMI cable to get the upconversion going. I find this just unacceptable. So there you go -- Toshiba's strategy seems to be: give the minimum, charge the maximum, and hope the consumer will take it with a smile. Although I got my player on sale for about $400 USD I ended up returning it to BestBuy after about 3 weeks of use -- to me, the unit is simply not worth the money. Instead of Toshiba, I bought xBox 360 HD DVD Player, hooked it up to my PC, and for $200 I now have an HD-DVD player that is as good as, if not better than, Toshiba. Thanks Toshiba -- but no, thanks.

CVD? $800 7 days 10 of 10 Comments: Toshiba tech. support said the player will not play DVD+R/RW discs but it definitely does as well as DVD+R DL. Upconverting of standard DVD's is the excellant as is audio of CD's. HD-DVD's look almost 3D at times. I also have the Sony BDP-S1 but feel the Toshiba provides a much better quality picture. I will purchase HD-DVD's when possible and us it to upconvert standard DVD's rather than use the Sony.
